How to check bicycle chain wear/slack

    thanks worked that out myself and just swapped out a old chain for a old chain with less wear just needed to check if i done it right

    Should i change the cassette every time that that the chain is replaced?

      +Carlos Antonio Sanabria Flecha Hi Carlos, it's recommended to replace the cassette when you're chain is about 1% longer than it's original length.
      If the chain is at 0.75% wear, then just replacing chain would suffice.

      Also what's good to check is the wear on your smallest (highest) gear on cassette if it is a bit spikey it's worn and time to change it. As the chain gets slack it will wear on the cogs and make them spikey. Spikey cogs will continue to skip with a new chain so it's best to change the cassette too at that point. Even if it's spikey and not skipping you don't want to leave it too late as the chain will start to wear the chainset too - which will be even more costly to replace.
      It's best to think of chains as consumables Park tools recommends replacing the chain at 0.75% for under 10 speed cassettes and 1% for single speed
