Jisoo’s voice hits me in my gut in this song. Her vocal tears me up with every listen of this song and the emotion in Jennie’s last line breaks me every time.

You were right on track about the rolling paper... The line before that referred to drinking alcohol, "all it takes is a smooth pop of a bottle-top to fix a heart"... They're basically talking about using whatever vices they can to numb the pain...
Now, that's what I meant about piercing. Jisoo almost brings you to tears with this song.

You were correct regarding "rolling paper". The song is about being stuck in a bad relationship and instead of leaving, she drinks and smokes to "go back" in her mind to the start of their relationship, when things were better. That's why she's "The Happiest Girl In The World", because she's numbed the pain.

Actually, I believe that's a Western misconception. (All music is open to subjective interpretation, of course.) But there's a Korean tradition called "rolling paper" which involves writing heartfelt messages at the end of an event/occasion and the messages are passed around to everyone involved. Even though Blackpink does tend to break with entertainment norms, generally, in Korean media, it's considered taboo to refer to drug use.
Someone should have warned you. This was THE ONE!! The whole second Album leads up to this song. You might even risk saying,... their whole career leads up to THIS SONG!!! It's devastating! It's Gorgeous! It's heartbreaking. One of the big critics criticisms of K-pop in general is that it lacks any real emotional weight. Well,... here it is. It might be their greatest song ever.
I can feel all the sadness and pain from the voices, especially Jisoo's headtone voice tricking my tearing eyes automatically. This is the first time I heard Lisa's husky voice, I can feel an emotion., sad and beautiful at the same time.
I agree, the high notes (falsetto) in this song are just piercing.
Lyric correction: at 3:14 the correct line is "We can't undo the high we chased 'till the crash, no"
Big Rose stan since I first listened to this group, but this song hits different. In my opinion, all 4 of them put their voices to their best places, their best roles, in this one.
Jisoo's high, thin tone perfectly fits her lines, especially when the voice clashes with the message in the lyric. That's perfect.
Jennie dropping into that deep range, beautiful and rich (not always her range in the group).
Rose just being Rose, classic Rose, perfectly in her emotional projection range. (As noted above, I stan Rose.)
And then Lisa literally showing that she's not "just" main dancer, with a smooth strong tone holding the entire middle throughout the entire song.
This group gets a lot of shade, but they are the biggest girl group ever. So haters are just being haters.
Blackpink dominates all styles and they break it in all of them, also react to the practical dances please.

this is probably one of my favorite emotional songs by blackpink. they all sound beautiful, but lisa really surprised me with her vocals it was unexpected to hear lisa's emotions come out like that

This song was my choice for SOTY, but YG submitted Pink Venom instead. I don't know what the deal is with this song, it has NEVER made their concert playlist. And I remember seeing an early BPM video where during a sound check fans were screaming form the girls to do this song and they wouldn't. There has to be some reason why they have NEVER performed this song. If someone knows why, please reply.

One of my favs, and sums BP talks about toxic relationships, that's their fault.
This is Born Pink album's best b-side IMO. Even though "Tally", "Typa Girl" or "Yeah Yeah Yeah" were on their concert (all amazing songs), this was my favorite.
That said, you should react to all their b-side, BlackPink is more than just their crazy amazing hits. Below are their B-sides (ie. no music video). I recommend react to live performances.

Generally in Korea, a cigarette means a little time spent smoking. In this situation, a little time means time for yourself to deepen your thoughts, feel lonely, or soothe your distress, or time for comfort for yourself.

My favorite song of 2022 is practically a tie between 2 sorta melancholy tunes:
BLACKPINK ballad THE HAPPIEST GIRL and
PURPLE KISS b-side CURSOR 빈틈 (written by member Chaein, a FORMER YG TRAINEE and talented all-rounder, also she's my #2 favorite Kpop vocalist after BLACKPINK Rosé, followed by #3 Swan also of PURPLE KISS).
PURPLE KISS song CURSOR doesn't have an mv but does have an official performance video on their channel with about 1 minute cut out of the song (obviously filmed same time as b-side OH MY GOSH shortened performance video but that song got a full length performance on TongTongCulture TH-cam channel).

Unless they magically toss us a new mini album before January the highest ranking BLACKPINK related song this year for me will be LISA featured on (former BIGBANG member) TAEYANG great R&B song SHOONG! (onomatopoeia sound of a car driving by fast). The music video and dance practice are both worth checking out. In addition to great dancing from LISA and smooth moves by TAEYANG the 'back dancers' assembled are pretty great and kinda famous dancer/ choreographers from crews on competition tv reality shows Street Woman Fighter and Street Man Fighter.
So far I'm ranking SHOONG! at #6:
my 2023 top 5 so far is dominated by 4 PURPLE KISS songs and a BILLLIE b-side:
1) PURPLE KISS - T4KE (Chaein songwriting again, she knows how to make use of her members' vocals, see the TongTongCulture 4K Live video),

Since this is the year of endless summer in Kpop with PURPLE KISS (7HEAVEN), BILLLIE (BYOB) and QUEENZ EYE (THIS IS LOVE) all dropping summertime bops in Sept and Oct, YG might as well debut BABYMONS7ER with a summery song...
Sadly, THE HAPPIEST GIRL never gets performed live (which makes my heart break a little bit less that I missed the Born Pink tour thanks to BP NOT being IN MY AREA and some medical & financial issues -- gonna miss PURPLE KISS 1st US tour in November since closest is a full day's drive from me.
I spent $800 back in 2019 between halfway decent ticket, some t-shirts & lightstick and flying to Newark NJ for an overnight vacation and saving hotel costs by staying awake at airport all night following concert). Next time tour if they have a shiw near you I recommend seeing them in concert.

Jisoo has a deep and husky voice, kinda low. But she hit those high not perfectly. It's really hard to do this. I really like her voice, one of the unique voices in kpop industry.

Let's try to be more truthful than other answers you received so far on the 'ROLLING PAPER' LYRIC:
Maybe ask the singer songrwriter Natalia Kills, one of the American writers of this song, or the other writers. BLACKPINK GENERALLY DON'T GET TO WRITE THEIR OWN SONGS (and contributions are usually kept in lower percentage when they ARE credited), this is probably partially because they got big very fast and one of the byproducts of that success is the YG label is just a wee bit controll8ng in the songwriting (also one of the most potentially lucrative aspects of the business, why share those profits too?). The company apparently don't trust them to write their own hits -- especially given the scarcity principle marketing of limited music content (by Kpop standards) means every song NEEDS to be potentially very successful. One downside to them being with YG, but they wouldn't have the crazy talented music videos staff and big buget elsewhere. Sure Thing cover I was kinda surprised back in 2017 they didn't have the 'you can be the lighter' line changed.
Why the company decided to leave that line in is anyone's guess but maybe not the best choice given the Korean attitude towards said smoking and the potential legal repurcussions and career scandal for Korean musicians caught smoking a fat one. Ask members of YG boygroup BIGBANG or better yet former YG boygroup iKON (now at another label) former leader / award winning main songwriter / rapper B.I aka Hanbin who quit the group to protect their careers after his scandal about alleged use years previous of a harder substance. He's a solo artist elsewhere and other singers who work with him still get criticized for it. Korea seems to have Draconian attitudes about some minor things we find normal of American musicians.
Does Jisoo know what the lyrics mean? Who knows, she's not English fluent. The other memvers may very well know, but that doesn't mean they've ever lit up one. Someone online tried to accuse Rosé of using based on something in a photo at a dinner party she attended posted online. A female vocalist for a previous girl group had problems for years for importing prescription meds for ADHD to Korea and the Korean public treating her like one of Heisenberg's customers. A misunderstanding damaged her career. So despite Jennie attending parties in Hollywood and their mingling wirh western celebrities and a few lame LA trust fund kids, I seriously hope they know to avoid potentially ruining their career by smoking anything as such. They have a ton of haters always waiting for them to make the slightest mistake showing they are humans. It's a minor scandal when someone sees potential evidence a Kpop idol might be smoking cigarettes, which has happened to some boygroup members not so long ago.
There were a few Drunksé moments caught on video and an amusing livestream where she'd received a bottle of wine for her birthday and said to viewers 'No! You will not see Drunksé ttonight'.
