Great point about the slanted grab bar. I had planned on doing in level with the ground but your video changed my mind. Thanks!

Great video. The only prob you can run into with a bar at a slant is if your hands are wet and have soap on them your hand can slide down the bar and you back on your butt. as opposed to pushing your self up on a horizontal bar or pulling yourself up with a vertical bar, you are less likely to have your hand slide on the bar. always happy to answer any questions you mighthave Joey Bolohan Owner of OCGrabBars

Great video. One of the problems with installing grab bars is that the chances of studs being exactly where you require (or would like) the grab bars is extremely slim. Finding the studs behind a tile wall is also no easy task. There are methods of installing grab bars without having to hit a stud, and information on that is available online.

Thanks for the tips. Make sure to change the battery in your smoke detector, Cynthia... I heard it beeping during the video.

Thank you! I’m getting one installed for me. I am a 51 year old black guy and I like to take baths and sometimes it’s hard for me to get out of the tub. A grab bar would be helpful and safe.

use a permanent shower curtain rod that mounts into the wall for the senior to hold onto while entering/ exiting the bathtub.

So much good information, I am helping a lady with this stuff, yesterday I called and went to about 8 second hand stores looking for a shower chair, it’s a hot item, none were found. I went to a medical supply store I bought a chair $44 that looks like the one in your video next is grab bars thanks so much for your information.

Okay first off awesome video. Looked all over the place to find someone that explains well. Second, you have a very clean home :) Would you be kind enough to share the measurements of height from floor to top of bar on the side ones. Also, what is height you chose on the long bar on the wall of shower?
Thank you again for great video.

2:27 So you want your mom to turn her back to the chair and sit down without holding anything except to reach back and feel where the tub/chair is AND do that without being able to fully see where she is sitting? Unbelievably risky!!! Seniors often have limited movement in their neck, which means they may try this maneuver blind. What if she misses the chair or only gets part way on and the chair tips over? NOT SAFE!!!

Ridiculous. A video about safety, and all the while the smoke detector is chirping, indicating that it's time to replace the battery. When the house catches fire, at least she'll be able to shower safely.

Unless they, like, change the battery.

    • @loveblue2

I find the smoke alarm beeping really annoying. I can barely stand listening to it during the time it first starts to beep and the few minutes it takes me to get a new battery and replace it, much less having to listen to it for days, weeks or months.
How in the world do people SLEEP listening to that???
