    💥👉 *UPDATE:* Starting on Jan. 01, 2023, the qualifying period to earn Platinum Elite status via $75K spend will fully switch to each _calendar year_ (i.e. Jan. - Dec.). Previously, it was based on cardmember year.

    The Priority Pass Select membership just earned it's keep for my Wife and I. We were flying to Europe on KLM from Dulles, Washington D.C. and upon arrival at the concourse in the afternoon, almost nothing was open as far as restaurants go. However, the Air France lounge was open. We simply walked in and presented our digital Priority Pass Select membership cards and our boarding pass and were granted access. This lounge has a bar and a great little selection of food items and drinks. We were able to lounge for a couple of hours waiting for our flight to arrive with some decent food and drink, in comfortable seats, charge our phones, all for being a Priority Pass Select member.

      @UCf6ZB5gQWr6wVb0NVhRTxHQ I think this may be so for domestic (US) locations, but I don't think it necessarily applies to international locations. One needs to check carefully one's destination and the specifics for that location. If you can get a corporate upgrade to club level, then of course this card provides less value, but for those who don't have that option, this card can provide significant additional value. Check out Istanbul.... But agree that the other benefits are awesome.

Currently on the boundless card and I’m projecting around $15000-$20000 of purchases on the card for the first year or two but after that will be spending $20-$30k on it. @Mark very informative video that I keep coming back to as I wait for my 1 year mark (so close!). My question for you Mark is: compared to the Capital One Venture X card that is turning heads now as the "best" travel credit card, how does the RC card stack up against it? Simply put, if I were to only choose 1 travel card to get, which one would you recommend between these two?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From a rewards perspective, the Capital One Venture X is way better because the points can be used for any airline, hotel, car rental, etc. you want. The Ritz Carlton Card earns Marriott points, so you're locked into only redeeming for Marriott-branded hotels for consistent good value.
      From a benefits perspective, get the one that has the benefits you can use most often and most easily.
      Overall, the Capital One Venture X is a clear winner in my mind for the best overall value.
      The Ritz Carlton Card is designed for Marriott loyalists.

    I’m debating if I should upgrade this credit card. I currently have the Freedom Unlimited and Chase Marriott Boundless. I’ve been contemplating on Sapphire Reserve or Preferred. But I heard about this. I usually stay at hotels 2-6 times a year, dine out 2-3 times a month, and spend on other purchases (groceries, gas, and etc). But when I travel I only look and book Marriott hotels. Is it worth it? I guess this credit card is a mix of Preferred and Marriott.

    One thing to note about the complimentary gold status. Gold normally required 25 stays. The next level, Platinum, required 50 stays. Even though you have Gold it does not give you stays. You will still need to get to 50 to get to the next level.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MarkReese I’m a little confused. The card states you have to make purchases in the amount of 75K to make Platinum Elite status. However, can I also spend the 50 nights stay and obtain/maintain the Platinum Elite status? Thank you

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rhondapittman5959 - Hi Rhonda, there are 2 distinct things at play here.
      First, earning elite status the traditional ways is done via 'elite nights,' that is, nights spend in hotels. Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Status requires 50 nights per year this way.
      With that in mind...
      Let's say you didn't do any stays with Marriott for a year, BUT you did spend the $75K on the card. That would give you "automatic Platinum Elite Status," but you'd your elite night count will still be "0." Or rather, you'd have 15, because the card also provides 15 Elite Qualifying Nights per year.
      So, if you wanted to reach a higher tier, like Titanium, then you'd have to stay 60 nights, starting from 15 (as opposed to only 25 more nights, starting from 50).
      The same holds true for "automatic Gold Elite Status" that comes with the card.
      Even though you get that by default, you'd still have only 15 elite qualifying nights to start the year (not 25 from being "Gold").
      Does all that make sense? 😃

    I've been waiting for this video for months! Thanks Mark!
    I had a few questions:
    1) For the $300 travel credit, if I were to upgrade my Marriott card to this card this year. Does that mean I'd get the travel credit this year (2021, first year holding the card) and it would renew January 2022?
    2) Can you explain the 15 elite night credits? What does that mean?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      (1) Yes. You'd get the $300 credit now and again in Jan. 2022
      (2) In the Marriott program, elite status requires staying a certain # of nights. For example, to achieve Gold Elite, you'd need to stay 25 nights in a calendar year. Elite Night Credits count as if you stayed 15 nights during the year, basically accelerating your ability to earn status. So if you wanted to achieve Platinum Elite status, which requires 50 nights in a year, you'd need to actually stay 50-15 = 35 nights to get it. Make sense? 😃

    Agree with the comments on this being a very helpful video. The Venture X has reduced the allure of the RC card a bit due to the former's Priority Pass benefit that is nearly as good, but this still has solid value for those that appreciate the amenities. By the way, I was able to upgrade from a Bonvoy Premier (predecessor to the Boundless) without any issues. The Premier's 25k certificate (at $85 annual fee) just wasn't cutting it anymore amidst point devaluations. Unless you don't mind not having a bathroom in your room--just kidding :). I've made good use of those certs. You also get some very good medical evacuation coverage with the Ritz card that doesn't seem to be included with most travel cards (YMMV--I'm not as knowledgeable as Mark and others on TH-cam on this topic). If you are young and traveling domestically, this probably doesn't matter much, but be aware that injuries in remote places abroad requiring medical evacuation can be SUPER expensive, and will not necessarily be covered by your US insurance.

    Does anybody know if I can use Marriot Bonvoy points for Ritz Carlton stays? I was thinking about transferring points from CSP to Marriot with the 1:1 transfer.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes you can, Ritz-Carlton is a Marriott brand so Bonvoy points will work just fine. Before doing a transfer, consider booking via the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal first. With your CSP, you'll get 1.25¢ per point guaranteed. Marriott points are only worth about 0.7¢ each on average, but it's possible to get more value than that on certain itineraries with the proper research.
      Remember, a 1:1 transfer ratio does represent the value you get. That just means you start with 10,000 points and end up with 10,000 points in another program. It's then up to you to find the right redemption opportunities to get better value than Chase's default of 1.25¢. However, with Marriott's program, there's a high chance of you losing massive value with the transfer, since (on average) you'll be going from 1.25¢ down to 0.7¢ per point (that's a 44% loss).
      That's why you need to build out itineraries to see what value you would get when using Marriott points before doing any transfers.
      A hotel with a cash rate of $325 and a point rate of 85,000 Bonvoy points = 0.5¢ per point...that's a bad value.
      A hotel with a cash rate of $325 and a point rate of 35,000 Bonvoy points = 0.9¢ per point. That's much better (and better than the average), but still a lot worse than Chase's value via the portal.
      A hotel with a cash rate of $325 and a point rate of 20,000 Bonvoy points = 1.6¢ per point. Now THAT would be an incredible redemption for Marriott points and worth transferring Chase UR points into Marriott's program 🌟
