@@annmills3163 Funny you didn't name one that's better-is that because there's not one you can name that's better? Coz I would've thought if you knew a better one, you'd say what it was in order to prove your point. You've just succeeded in convincing me even more that this is the greatest one-maybe of any type of music!

This may be the most famous "Doo-Wop" song ever. As soon as you hear the first couple of notes, you know. Huge hit song in that era.

This song by Gene Chandler, "Duke of Earl" (1961) Charted at #1. It became his signature song, and moniker. This was a monster hit for him. Great reaction as always.

Duke of Earl - epitome of smooth
It was released in 1961. It reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 15 weeks, Rank #1 on both Billboard Top Pop and Billboard Top Soul/R&B Charts at the same time for 3 weeks in 1962. The song also was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame back in 2002. It was a major monster hit and definitely an iconic hit.
Gene Chandler is still alive today and still performing!

Gene Chandler's "Rainbow 65" was another ladies tune. Back then we showed respect for ladies. When I was little on the subway it was an honor to offer a lady a seat. It made my mother proud. It was a different world. We used to buck up to see which one of us would get to help an elderly lady cross the street.

Well you guys finally fell into the soul music rabbit hole Now there ain't no coming back 😁Back in the day he was known as Gean Chandler the women handler. He was one of the biggest soul artists of the 60s/70s even though he consider a one hit wonder because of this song, But he had tons of hits they just toped the R&B/ Soul charts back in the day. A list to long to mention, but here are a few God bless our love. What now ,Just be true ,Groovy situation. Curtis Mayfield ( one of the greatest writers/ producers this country has ever given birth to the man was a musical genius ) now there is someone worth learning about & listening to .Wrote a lot of his songs the group you hear on backup are the DuKays✌️&♥️

I found this song later after hearing a parody of it...the parody I heard was in a kids movie..as a kid obviously, it was Pound Puppies: The Legend of Big Paw and the titular Big Paw had a character song, done to this tune. I later heard the original on a CD my grandparents picked up because my maternal grandmother loved Doo Wop...her husband, my grandfather was born in the late 30's while she was born in 1941..so she was 20 when this came out and she loved classic music from the time she grew up. I made a playlist for her last birthday before she passed away and it was all classic songs she would have heard growing up, made her a strawberry milkshake and everything...did the best I could to make that birthday with just the two of us one she enjoyed.

I grew up in the 60's and had a gang of friends all from a working-class neighborhood ...We thought we were "all that" lol. We had dances every weekend and when Duke of Earl came on, every one of us got up on the dance floor. We'd get in a long line facing each other and did a form of cha cha. So cool, so we thought lol. Harlem Shuffle was the other song we'd jump up for, another mid 60's favorite. I believe Duke of Earl was the top of the charts for a very long time, around 64, 65. We also tried to sing it...Boys did the deep part and we'd all try to be the back up singers.
In 2016 I had a big party; most of them came....Bunch of old farts running up to the dance floor when those songs came on.....such a great memory.
P.S. You two are my favorite reaction folks.....Keep it going!

Back then we were still on our pedestal and the men loved us and were in awe of all the things we could do that they never could. They treated us as with respect. They loved that we knew how to be ladies. And we in turn admired our men and were amazed at their abilities and strength. Strength of character as well as physical. They knew how to treat us right. Parents raised their kids to understand these things. Then women began working outside of the home. Kids were being raised by strangers who didn't really care. They act like they do but they don't. Now it's a crap shoot what kind of woman you get or what kind of man you'll end up with. Too many aren't raised right anymore.

I've noticed many times that Mel is very talented at imitating the songs.
The "Earl" part came from band member Earl Edwards and the "Duke" part came from a warm-up exercise they used to do in which they'd sing "do-do-do."
One you might enjoy is "Heat Wave" by Martha and the Vandellas in 1963. It kind of fits in with the spirit of what you've been doing. It's been covered a lot of times.
