If anyone else was wondering what wattles are for, they're for heat regulation. Chickens can't sweat and so pass blood through the wattles (and comb) to be air cooled. Also love the video, so cute!
Yes, and for so many reasons. I'm glad I ordered mine early this year, because a lot of hatcheries are running out of chicks. The best thing about chickens, I think, is that they're so entertaining. I could sit and watch them for hours. So much more fun than Netflix. 😀
I love your videos. I moved up north to help my Mom. When you show a new video, I tell my Mom, 87, that my girlfriend is on TH-cam. Hope I have not offended you. My Mom used to do tons of crafts but her hands do not work so well now. Always good to see you.
Hi Wonderful Chicken, as for the tape I lift up the end and fold a little onto itself and it's easier to pull up and when finished just make another folded end. Have a wonderful day.
checked out your daughters channel so much talent you 2 have I love paper mache I love that I can have 8 projects at once lol. thanks for all your inspiration and guidance...I subscribed to watch your daughter also hope she can make it on here shes talented
Thanks, Corinna. She's working really hard to get more followers - it was so much easier when I started 11 years ago! Did you see the pelican painting she did last week? th-cam.com/video/CTACXn_A7gU/w-d-xo.html
@@UltimatePaperMache i have been working on a few different things during the shut down paper mache is a favorite of mine just started back up ive made a mushroom...a rabbit that looks like a squirrel...2 turtles and a frog
Love the chicken! It would be interesting how your chicks would react to your chicken (outside their enclosure of course). I really enjoy your video and can't wait for your daughter's channel videos.
Read online about waddles on chickens: they both actually have a very important function. Scientists suggest that blood is circulated between the comb and wattles to help keep the chicken cool in hot weather. This gives the comb it’s deep red color and allows the blood to be cooled by the air before traveling through the bird’s body. Great video - thanks.
Think I'm going to try this out. I just finished making a quadruple batch (it was supposed to be doubled 😳) of your paper clay recipe and I'm pooped! Lol. All that mixing is a great upper body workout. 😃 It didn't come out exactly like yours, as I had no flour and substituted all dry ingredients with corn starch. I think it'll still work though. I'm a polymer clay artist, so I'm sure it'll take some time to transition. I made a cardboard form for an African mask (which took several days) using your tutorial. Added 5 layers of paper mache, (another 5 days) which is now dry and awaiting paper clay to build the features. I must admit, WAY more time and care goes into paper mache projects than I thought!!!! You make it look easy, my dear. Wish me luck, I'll need it, I think. I have almost 4 lbs of paper clay, tightly wrapped in plastic wrap and stuffed in ziploc bags. I hope it'll keep ok. 😄😄😄
Wow - that's a lot of paper mache clay! You might want to stick it in the freezer, in case it takes you a while to work through it. And you're right - paper mache is not an instant-gratification art form. But it's fun. 😊
@@UltimatePaperMache wow, they're tough alright. they must follow the Fast Life Strategy model. - i just had a notification pop up & its titled - They Sent Me 100 Baby CHICKS in the Mail ..lol are they hens for laying eggs? i think you said but i cant remember? i only recently started following homesteading types and am learning the lingo regarding agriculture and livestock, food preservation and all of that.

Hi Jonnie, Hope all is well... I came across a few of ur older vids and I thought I would say hi. I went to you web page and tried to send u an email just to say hi. Your so famous now I didn’t know if u would get my email. Thinking of u at this time hope your keeping safe and healthy. Thx for all your wonderful project vids. I feel the world really needs it’s artists right now. Best wishes Douglas
Hi Douglas. I agree that we need as many creative people as possible - we're going to need some major positive energy in the next few years. And BTW, I'm not so "famous" as all that - just a small fish in the big TH-cam pond. I admit that YT comments sometimes have to wait to get answered (only so many hours in the day) but emails do get through to me. I hope you're doing well and staying out of trouble. Are you still making masks? I absolutely love your work.
Love your videos, I just found you from your video how to make paper mache. I would love to make a few things for my garden, Can they withstand the outdoor elements?
hello i just discovered your channel!! absolutely in love with your projects and your videos :') thank you for sharing!! Cant wait to make some funky lil sculptures
Actually, it's the first project in my book about making animal sculptures. I started with this simple project, and then each project after this one gets a little more difficult. The final project is a horse. 😀
Some people say that Flex Seal will make paper mache products waterproof, but some other people have tried it and it didn't work for them. Have you seen my garden gnome videos? They're waterproof, but there's no paper in them. th-cam.com/video/gyqsBl2jBqI/w-d-xo.html For a small sculpture like this you could also use Apoxie Sculpt. It's waterproof.
I'm going to try to make that chicken but into a piggy bank. Piggy chicken? Chicken piggy bank. Chicky bank? 🙄🌸😊. Hopefully, the plaster mould will not be problematic.
That's a great idea! And you shouldn't have mould if you make sure to dry the chicken as fast as possible, and seal it with varnish after it's painted. Mould can't grow without water.
The easy way would be to cut some feathers from heavy colored paper and stick them on. But you can also shape some feathers with light cardboard from a cereal box and cover them with paper mache clay, and then press some feathery textures into them with the edge of an old brush.
There is nothing cuter than a chicken : ) Question: have you ever used dryer lint in your paper Mache? I know it's not "paper mache" technically with that but I'm just curious.
I believe someone wrote to me and said that it works, but I haven't tried it. If you can get it to mix in well, it should reinforce the mix as well or even better than paper. Mixing it might be challenging, though. If you try it, be sure to let us know how it turned out.
ive been recently getting into paper mache and have been referring to your videos and i have a question about discarding old paper mache paste. i didnt mean to make so much as i didnt realize how little you really need and my paste is now old and not very sticky anymore. how do you properly discard it?
Do you mean the paste that's made with flour and water? That can just go in the trash. It gets less sticky because natural yeast starts to change it into sourdough. The paper mache clay can also be scraped out of the bowl and thrown out. Then the bowl can be washed out in the sink.
@@UltimatePaperMache Yes, I mean the paste made with flour and water. Thank you very much! I wasn't sure if it's something that could simply be poured into the sink or it has to be thrown in the trash completely. I wanted to know how to properly discard it before doing anything.

You can do it! This one is really easy. And you can use paper strips and paste - you don't have to go buy the stuff for paper mache clay. 😀
