Fabrics from the Show: Anti Pill Fleece
Leaver a comment to be in with a chance of winning this weeks Giveaway; a bag of 20 threads, plus a Liberty Needle Tidy and make up Bag.
Yes Natasha that sun rise spoilt the fleece
Thank you Alastair for talking about the cost of the cricket whites chopped up and made into unwearable clothes; I was horrified by the waste too.
I was impressed that Suzy had practiced her sports garment 7 times and I scored 10/10 for Georgie’s garment of the week. From Di
Great show as always with brilliant tips, it’s having great people sharing the wisdom that helps me keep sewing. Thank you all.
Such generous giveaways, thank you Alistair
Thanks for the tip on basting a zip, I’ve never done this before
Well said Kim..about the bondaweb..I was shouting at the screen Noooo. Also Gutterman have a stretch thread you can use now also
Learning a lot from you all, thanks
My favourite was the Jamaican leotard - and glittery!
Final project white - that's the wedding gown on the catwalk
At the moment I’m for Pasha to win 😊 thank you all for the fun matter from Di
Love Productions think it makes good TV...
They should've used a dark mannequin to showcase the outfits made from the transformation challenge. Was so hard to see the complete design.
I do enjoy the show but do feel that the transformation challenge is a waste surely they would be better having a technique challenge of some sort and all use the same fabric etc to do it xxx
Garment of the week had pieces that were folded over itself, that I don't think should have been folded like it was
Bake off is the same production company...
Where do I find Natasha info

Safety pin, if you're in real need
I just fail to see the point of the transformation challenge - nothing is wearable, desirable nor transformational. Turns a perfectly good garment into a rag bag. I hate it.
I’m a sewer and can change a pattern a bit but I’m no designer, it’s supposed to be a sewing show, Not a design competition but it’s all about entertainment and setting ppl up to fail, not sure I like it much now seems mean somehow. Love all your comments and agree about the wasteful nature of the recycle challenge…… if you can call it recycling. Rant over lol
The facial hair really suits you Alistair, looking very hansom.
I love watching The Sewing Bee and really enjoy watching your Sewing Bee Natter. It's great to here all of your views on the latest show. I wish the programme producers would listen to your feedback. Thank you
After watching the second episode of the Bee, I re watched series one, WOW what a difference professionalism from the presenter as well as fun. New skills learnt by contestants - Fly zip, French seams.
Why has the latest series become another poor reality show?
I find your chat as interesting if not more than the show. I do sew but not clothes and find I feel like having a go. Thank you.
I agree with you Alistair about the cricket whites
I think a three machine pattern challenge is a bit much, sewing machine for the zips, overlocker for the seams and coverstitch for the hems, just time consuming and only week 2
Alastair for judge!
Why can’t they make something useful instead of wasting all the cricket clothes. Surely there are charities in the world that could have reused that equipment
I love the Sewing Bee but like all these types of tv shows we generally only get to see certain clips for the 'entertainment factor' as decided by the production team.
I’m definitely going to check out Natasha’s site…..I love a bargain. I think that the Sewing Bee has moved away too much from what the show was about originally. I do still watch the program but find that I’m getting irritated by certain aspects of.
In my opinion the cricket/recycle challenge is a waste of time/money/effort, no one would ever wear what they made, so much waste. Surely they could come up with a challenge. The transformation challenge has to go, not sewing more design. It’s too wasteful. Rant over! xx
Would love to learn more about the tapes used and on how to use them. Lots of tips from you all, this is as good as the actual show, we’ll done everyone.
Love hearing your feedback. The transformation challenge is rather pointless. I don’t think it makes good viewing either
My current winner would be Pasha, but I think Suzy’s style is what Esme likes so she could be a favourite?
Great analysis and tips Alistair. Thought Don's skirt was so beautifully sewn. All the contestants did so well this week. Impressive with the fabrics they were using. Thanks guys for another great show 👍🏻 🧵🪡
I loved the Bee when it first started but think now it's a different type of show, entertainment and sewing comes second. Love listening to your comments
though.
I agree. It's got a bit silly like all these " reality" shows tend to do .
Love the chat and sewing tips. You should contact the BBC to put forward your follow up show! Any ideas on what it could be called? ‘Sewing Beehind the Scenes’ - see what I did there!
Just love listening to all your comments. What a waste with the cricket whites agree with Alistair as usual wholeheartedly. Thank you for your sewing tips which we get for free. Looking forward to next weeks discussion. 👍
I prefer listening to you guys and the advice, expertise and product knowledge you have as opposed to the scant attention to the quality of sewing on the show. Is it meant to be about the sewing or the showing (off). Asking for a friend 😂
Congratulations Sue on winning the comment giveaway
Not sure I have a favourite yet. Some really good ideas from contestants. Sportswear not really me, but enjoyed the show. Love the sewing Bee natter, even got my husband hooked to it.
I really enjoy the chat....it is so refreshing getting all the feedback on the show....xx
I enjoy the Sewing Bee but I'm not a fan of the transformation challenge Idon'tthink any of the items made could be worn, it would be better to have a recycle clothes challenge to upcycle old clothes.
Hi. I find myself agreeing with Alistair about waste in general but regards the new jumpers I think a little differently - it is a once a year entertainment show. The Beeb spend money in far more controversial ways - sending celebrities on amazing international trips is one they repeat.
I think we should stop referring to Don and Janet's ages. No one knows the ages of the other contestants and their efforts aren't compared using that criterion. Judge Don and Janet on their sewing performance only or you're patronising them.
I'm so glad I found this offering a thorough review of the program. I was sorry to see Comfort leave as I think she had a lot more to offer. Looking forward to this week's review!
Agree Marcus needs to stop making hats! Loved Patrick’s comment that this weeks one looked like it belonged in a sex shop!
I feel they should follow the pattern exactly in the Pattern Challenge, not add or take away anything.
I agree with the comments on wastefulness, it's uncomfortable viewing for a sewist to see that waste of sports wear that could be used by someone - and was going to be destroyed to be a garment worn by no one.
I was shocked that the cricket whites were cut up to make into 11 unwearable garments. How is this better than landfill?
How long in advance do the contestants get the final challenges
I have a combined overlocker / cover stitch , never used the cover stitch . Kim you will have to help me. Lesley x
Have you any photos of the giant hat dress or white show piece Alistair?? Would be amazing to see 😊
Just caught with the show - not the greatest, but do think that this presenter is a Heck of a lot of better than the woman who's currently on parental leave. Hope he stays
I enjoyed the programme but the transformation challenge seemed such a waste of kit.
Thank you for all your comments. I really enjoy listening to your thoughts. Thank you
I agree..I learnt a lot from last week's show alone
I'm yet to make anything with a zip as they terrify me, but I like Alistairs tip about basting the zip first and may give that a try.
Yes! The Cricket whites certainly looked like they had plenty of life left in them. And often the garments made in 90 minutes are not wearable.
This challenge should not be wasteful!
Don is an excellent sewist. His skirt was made beautifully. I guess he would have needed a simpler skirt so he had enough time to finish.
Thank you again for taking the time to do these detailed vlogs. 👏
I didn't enjoy the transformation challenge at all, such a waste!
Loving this .makes me want to apply for next year. # token oap
Love that info on the fleece pocket from Alistair. Sewing under filming conditions must be very stressful. Great info sharing. Thank you all. 😎🍀💜
The Vlieseline tapes are fabulous...I use them all the time and have introduced my friend who has been dressmaking for years too.
Love watching your bee chat/analysis. I always learn something new. Thanks 😊
I was disappointed with this week.
I hope Alex wins, love her work
Love the practical tips you give in the videos. Happy to have the sewing bee and the natter back.
I love to listen to you guys, so much information. Thank you. I really agree with the dreadful waste of resources using the cricket whites, why not have an all white wedding challenge or a christening gown challenge. Until next week xx
I do love all your information and tips
. Thank you Alistair for the tip on basting zips. I have always done this it also helps if matching block colours
Really enjoying the discussion 👍
I love the sewing bee. It's good entertainment. I don't always agree with the judges, but that's what it's all about.
I definitely agree with more tacking before sewing difficult areas. It would save time on unpicking and ruining the fabric. Starting to have my favourites but no one standing out just yet. ❤
I scored Georgie 7/10 for her fleece
The transformation challenge really upsets me, perfectly good cricket clothes will all end up in the bin. From Di
Well that's got Sports Week out of the way. My exercise involves walking between my sewing machine and the ironing board with the occasional detour to the kettle.
Once again, thank you for your comments on the latest episode. I agree with the total waste of the cricket kit, especially considering their supposed opinions about reusing and repurposing items. Will be interesting to see how this series progresses.
Zips - I Always fix at the very bottom, then adjust to fit as it should be - I usually fit the bottom of the zip to the centre crotch seam
Love the chat, such a shame to destroy good cricket whites and not use the pads in a structured way at all. But heyho. Gives us someone to talk about.
I wonder why they don't use paper to temporarily stabilise fabric whilst cutting and stitching
Alistair I use double sided tape to baste my zips in place..whats your thoughts on that ?
Thought this weeks programme was very good. The sewing standard had really improved.
I love hearing you feed back about sewing bee. Thank you for your tips .
Another great chat, interesting to hear about the reason behind the white theme, agree about the cricket whites 😱
I suspect it will be the girl that works with the frills and her 8 dresses...
Alistair, you're beard looks fabulous, you look so handsome 😍
He did get whistled at, to pull him off the machine...
Love to listen to Alistair’s stories
Enjoy watching this more than the Bee itself! Bravo !
I am quite scared of my Coverstich ..I need to master it
Never heard of these tapes, thanks for the education. Xx
Bondaweb is for hems when you're in a rush!
Thanks Alistair loved your tips on zips .
Collars Always have to have some stabilisation
Sounds like a plan Alistair - tapes sound good
Cover stitch machine is a very new machine name to me
Really enjoyed the chat, thank you :)
Good luck with the move Natasha
Lucky or talented...🙂
The BEE code doesn't work on Alistair's site at the moment!
Thank you so much for doing these vlogs. Really appreciate your views. 🎉
I will get this checked out xx
