I would definitely choose Starry over Sprite after trying the new soda. I like the flavor profile and the finish of Starry. With Sprite, while it’s up there, doesn’t really make me want to drink more, I always felt it needed more of a kick/after taste.
Starry over Sprite, however Sprite Zero is better than Starry Zero, hands down. I prefer Pepsi over Coke as well, however Coke has better “Zero” flavors. Much less of that artificial sweetener aftertaste and the flavor is close enough to the original that I don’t miss it. I typically drink zero calorie soda so I’m usually drinking Coke Zero/ Sprite Zero.
The reason why I chose starry over sprite is cause to me, it tastes like a combo of Mountain Dew sprite AND a little bit of Squirt. And it doesn’t make me thirsty for more like most other sodas do.
I just tried Starry and it reminds me a lot like Slice. I think Pepsi finally hit a homerun with this one but I think Sprite now is just gonna be hard to beat simply due to brand recognition.
I think Pepsi co needs to do free demo tastings of starry in the grocery store I think it will give it a better shot if someone gets to taste it for free instead of having to buy a bottle
Love 7-UP one of my only favorite lemon lime soda drinks to this day. Brings back good memories if I ever felt sick when little my mom would let me drink some. To this day if I'm super sick I'll drink 7-UP unless it's really bad sore throat like I had in pandemic. Then I'll drink hot tea which is better for the throat.
Great video! It’s amazing that the brand names are so engrained in our heads that we sometimes don’t realize that there’s better tasting sodas out there. I recall back in the day going to the grocery store and doing the coke, Pepsi, RC cola blind taste test challenge, and RC cola won with so many. You really don’t know until you do a blind taste test….. Go Starry!!!
I haven't drank sprite-like soda for years. At some point, they all turned into sugary water for me. I'd take a pepsi or even coke over any one of these. If I really crave lemony soda, I just mix lemonade and sparkling water ;)
I honestly can't drink soda in general anymore. If I feel thristy it means our bodies need water. Want some flavor? Drink 100% juice. Soda is trash. It'll have you with rotten teeth at 35 looking like you've been smoking meth for about 45 yrs lol. 😅
Man just caught up and watched this. This was leggit! I can see the marketers for Starry jumping up and down saying see. People only like Sprite because of the label lol. Starry is actually pretty banging! Great video man
Love your videos man! Whenever I'm eating or having a drink, I look for the video in which you consume the same thing and enjoy with you! You deserve more subs, really! 💪
Starry has the carbonation that people say McDonald's Sprite has, but much more of a lime bite to it. I think Sprite's best flavor is their Lymonade flavor, basically Sprite with more lime. Sprite Lymonade and Starry feel more comparable than regular Sprite and Starry.
Much like we do blind beer reviews in the BeerTube world, it's ALWAYS awesome to see these types of reviews. I actually did the same thing -- almost -- with two of my cousins a few years back, but since Starry wasn't a thing, we just went with an off-brand lemon-lime flavor, and we ended up with Wegmans. So it was Sprite, 7 UP, Sierra Mist and Wegmans. We tried to guess them, and my younger cousin NAILED all of them, which was surprising. However, the general consensus on what we liked most-to-least favorite was, in order, Sprite-7 UP-Wegmans-Sierra Mist. In fact, we all agreed Sierra Mist was bad. Like, not bad as in "it's bad for a soda pop," bad as in "we don't want to drink that." Most soda pop I find drinkable because it's mostly sugar water, but Sierra Mist was just flat-out terrible when we did the blind review. At the end of the day, reviews like this are the best way to really see what your taste buds prefer, because even if you try to go into all reviews without being bias, we all have, at the very least, some sort of bias towards certain things in life. This was a fun watch, Papi, and I hope you do some more. Would love to see a cola, orange and maybe even root beer blind taste test. I know you don't drink as much of those (especially full sugar), but it's incredibly fun to watch, and the results always produce some fun times, haha! I'd say do a Mellow Yellow vs. Mtn Dew vs. off-brand Dew (like Mountain Lightning from Walmart), too. I think you'd nail Mtn Dew ... but there's only one way to find out! Fantastic review, buddy. Cheers!
Papi Eats this has to be by far my favorite video that you made. Maybe it’s nostalgia or just the fact that it’s Starry that came on top. For some reason before watching I some how felt that Starry would win lol
Sprite is the blandest of the original 3. It's the equivalent to plain vanilla ice cream. Never cared for it. Siera Mist had the most natural flavor. I could actually taste lemon, lime, and sugar. 7up was by far the sweetest. Cherry 7up is even better. I usually prefer dark sodas to citrus ones but I'm curious to try Starry now.
Sierra Mist is made with real cane sugar, so it didn’t compete with Sprite . Most people preferred Sprite hands down… So that’s why Pepsi finally replaced Sierra Mist with Starry to get on the same sweetness level. Starry is pretty darn good. I still like Sprite too. 7UP is ok… a classic but not as sweet as Sprite or Starry.
Picked up Starry on sale and it was way better than Sierra Mist. I’ve never liked Sprite much either, but I need to do a side-by-side taste test with 7-Up to crown my favorite. I’ve always been partial to 7-Up.
This is the first time seeing any of your videos. How fun! I was ordering delivery and saw Starry, what must’ve been on sale because it was a dollar vs the rest being two and up. I thought it was a store brand. Now I’ll have to try it.
McDonald's has a special arrangement with Coca-Cola and they do everything specific for them, which it IS why "it hits different" because they do it special for McDonald's.. that is true. 7Up still consistent, Sierra Mist has been going down in flavor for years unfortunately... I'm hella CURIOUS about Starry, seen it, never had it before.
Your assessment of Sierra Mist out of the fountain is indeed different. Fountain syrup is made with High Fructose Corn Syrup and Sierra Mist in bottles and Can is made with “real sugar” which is sucrose. Haven’t tried Starry yet, but I will dry be trying it soon. 👍 Also, Pepsi had another Lemon Lime soda in the late ‘90s called Storm.
Pepsi's tried so many attempts at lemon-lime sodas, it's kinda embarrassing. After 7Up gained a national following in the late 60s, Coke launched Sprite and Pepsi launched Teem to try to grab market share. Sprite eventually became the market leader thanks to a combo of The Coca-Cola Company's marketing muscle and 7Up hitting financial difficulties in the later 80s, which is when the company merged with Dr Pepper (which had also acquired Canada Dry not long before). Meanwhile Pepsi tried again with Slice, which was pushed as containing real juice. It did okay at first, though it was the Orange Slice that became more of a thing (orange sodas were pretty big at the time). Slice lasted until the late 90s. Pepsi test marketed Storm, a caffeinated lemon-lime, as a replacement but it apparently didn't do well because they went back to the drawing board and came up with Sierra Mist, which launched in 1999. It did fine for a while, but then slacked off, so Pepsi goosed the sales by talking about how other was sweetened with only sucrose sugar, not HFCS. Then in late 2014 they screwed with it and decided to make it the test bed for using stevia to cut calories in non-diet soda. There's a reason stevia only works for sweetening coffee: it has a licorice after taste, which is covered up in coffee but is exceedingly nasty when expecting a simple lemon-lime. Just over a year later they backtracked, dropped the stevia, and renamed the soda Mist Twst (note the lack of an I, because txt speak was cool). It was uninspiring, and just took up shelf space. They went back to the original name and back to using all-sucrose as part of a soft relaunch in 2018, but four years later it made little difference. So we've got Starry. And that's not even counting the Mountain Dew Ice that they got Morgan Freeman to appear in a Super Bowl ad for launch. Which was contained actual lemon juice, was partly sweetened with non-calorie sweeteners, and (because it was under the Mountain Dew label) caffeinated. Like, it had all three of Pepsi's previous bad ideas in one soda. No wonder it barely lasted.
I don’t drink soda often but I used to like Sierra Mist. Only cuz of the name. I used to go backpacking in the Sierra Nevada. And it made me think of that. I’m not sure I would notice the difference between them.
I've been drinking mostly lemon lime sodas for the last 50 years. I'm lucky because they all taste the same to me lol. I've never had Starry so I'm gonna have to try that.
OK...... I did a blind taste test with Starry and Signature SELECT Soda Lemon Lime soda and could not tell much of a difference. I did prefer the Signature SELECT Soda and it was cheaper.
Weird suggestion/idea I thought of when you tried Starry real vs zero, why not have some water to sort of “cleanse” your palate in between each one for comparison tests.
I enjoyed the taste test, surprised sprite was not the winner…that is usually what I go for if I want a lemon lime soda. I haven’t tried starry yet but this video has made me curious lol

Sprite hasn't changed their name in years. Sierra Mist should've taken a page out of their book. I, for one, loved Sierra Mist, Starry, not so much. It's too sweet.
The gold standard for lemon-lime soda was 7 Up, up until the mid 90s when for some reason, the company decided to reformulate it, de-emphasizing the lemon and over-emphasizing the lime and adding some type of spice. But that's just history. Starry (Zero) gets an A- grade from me. It's good and I will continue to buy it ----UNTIL my local distributor starts getting Sprite Zero back in stock. My ranking is Sprite Zero (1), Starry Zero (2) and 7 Up Zero (3). 7 Up was king, until it decided to abdicate its crown.
Had to pickup MTN Dew because of this video brings back memories rarely drink it....Starry seems interesting. Mostly drink lemon lime soda's....Sprite Lymonade is delicious...my first grab if I see it....
Just got some starry yesterday. It's just like you say its got more flavor, generally better. One of the few lemon lime sodas I kind of actually like. I am disappointed that it's just a PepsiCo product though. I bought it thinking I'd found a rare off brand that I'd never seen before. It is new but it's not obscure or an actual off brand it's just a big corporate product.
Was a Sierra Mist person but just saw Starry today at the store and read the ingredients. They're making Starry with High Fructose Corn Syrup! Sierra Mist was made with real sugar! Sprite and 7UP are also made with HFCS so I will not be buying those or Starry and instead think I'll start making my own at home.
I currently like Sprite the best and I think it has more lime taste than the others. I've went back and forth between Sprite and 7UP. I think they have both fluctuated in quality through the years. Same with Sierra Mist. Starry was ok but it wasn't great. 7UP used to be better years ago when it was still served in glass bottles. Most sodas were better in glass and before corn syrup started being used. Years ago there was a lemon lime soda called Bubble Up that competed with 7UP long before Sprite or any of the others existed. That was amazing! I'm not sure if Bubble up still exists.
I do consume alot of caffeine. But I absolutely love caffeine free drinks when I don't want it. The new scheme I don't like but after this video I do want to compare for myself
I really liked ICE because I normally never drink soda unless it has caffeine in it so I never drink lemon lime drinks unless I have an upset stomach. Was kinda sad when ICE disappeared lol
Sprite used to be my favorite but not anymore I been loving the taste of Starry a lot more, now I can finally say I prefer Pepsi products more, because I always preferred Pepsi Cola over Coca-Cola
Pepsi reduced the cola flavor and put more sugar in the recipe to help make it more addictive and changed out vanilla for lemon to help win in taste tests for the taste buds on the tongue open more in reaction to the lemon. They then increase the amount of Phosphorus in that is above the legal limit (They won in court over it though) making Pepsi a drug that the body will get addicted to. Soda pop makers always had that option but, Pepsi is first and only one to do that against the public. Terrible that they were able to win in court over it.
I've been using Sierra mist "twist" as a mixer for years. Bought an over priced 12 pack of starry day it hit the store. Never again! Way too sweet! Guess I should thank pepsi co for helping me save money. Food lions limon up is equal to Sierra mist at $1.09 for a 2 liter.
I don’t get people who only drink coke and will refuse to touch a Pepsi. They practically taste the same. The only reason some people are coke or nothing is because Pepsi bottles say Pepsi instead of Coca-Cola.
i honestly cant tell the difference between starry and sprite, i had to look at the starry bottle a couple of times after drinking one to make sure I hadnt grabbed a sprite

Heya left a like 👍 I was trying to figure out why there's no more sprite cranberry 😕 all Christmas nothing
I saw it like twice and then nothing. Never saw the zero sugar one. Wonder why they didn't push it more...
@@PapiEats ahaha my dum bum tried pushing the more... thinking the comment was longer 😅😆madlove
@@rachelbay lmao good effort
I really liked ICE because I normally never drink soda unless it has caffeine in it so I never drink lemon lime drinks unless I have an upset stomach. Was kinda sad when ICE disappeared lol
yeah me too
It was funny to see you go from hating Starry to enjoying it by the end lol
Fun video! Now I want to try.
Starry is pretty good. Reminds me of a soda Pepsi shortly released called Storm
Isn't Sierra Mist opague while the other 3 are clear? That would make it easy to pick out Sierra Mist.
Nah
Squirt or Fresca would be
Great idea and great video!
A lot of people sleep on 7-Up but it is so good.
How fun! My brother works at food lion, I've got him on the look out for the zero sugar Starry, can't wait to try it!
Hope you like it!!
@@PapiEats he brought some home not long after I left this comment. It isn't carbonated enough for me, but it isn't bad!
NOWAY the PapiMagnum from twitch
NOWAY the Shakenbear from Twitch
I always felt that mountain dew had a pear flavoring.
You should of done a mixed one with all of them
That used to be the thing to do at Cici’s pizza.
all static noise drinks 😂😭🫡 tbh 💯
When Sierra Mist came back in 2018 it seemed to me like Pepsi changed the recipe so that it was more muted than before.
I don’t get people who only drink coke and will refuse to touch a Pepsi. They practically taste the same. The only reason some people are coke or nothing is because Pepsi bottles say Pepsi instead of Coca-Cola.
Agreed!
Seeee Starry is good
I CAN AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT TOO STARRY PEPSI TASTE GREAT TOO
Starry taste like those lemon/lime shaved iced snow cones you get at a fair. By far the best lemon lime soda ever made.
i honestly cant tell the difference between starry and sprite, i had to look at the starry bottle a couple of times after drinking one to make sure I hadnt grabbed a sprite
