I retired as a Lt. from the NY State Dept of Corrections in 2010 after 38 years. Always could tell the mob guys. Most of them did their time well, followed the rules without complaining and showed respect to fellow inmates and staff. The couple I used to talk to on a regular basis and got to know a little were the kind of guys you'd want to grab a beer with. We had an old Italian priest who ran the chapel. He had so many of them working in the chaple with him we use to call the chaple Ozone Park. Lol.
Let's just say "someone I met once a long time ago" was heavily involved in the Mob. He always said he had a ton of respect for the law enforcement guys, and from what I understand, they never ever went after them. He basically said they have a tough job to do, and they're only doing their job.
I've met a few connected guys throughout the years many years ago, and stories from my father. The mafia guys always had respect for LEO. Their job was to break the law, LEO job was to catch them. No hard feelings, that's the game.

I was born in 45 and grew up in Staten Island. I had seen mafia guys from time to time.
They would stay to themselves for the most part.
Also they seemed to be very guarded of how they behaved and some of them seemed to be under stress.

I think in his heart Andrew was happy you got away from that life. The fact that he told your father that he missed you and only had nice things to say about you says a lot about him as a person.

Boys become men by observing and replicating the actions of those they admire greatly. Some of my greatest teachers were men who made mistakes and I often learned from their misgivings...not always, but often.

As much as people want to say "look at his life" etc and judge him, we ALL work with the hand we are dealt. I joined the Army a month before my 21st birthday (45 now) to get myself away from situations that killed and imprisoned most of my friends. Some of the guys got really involved in terrible things. I still think of them as friends. I understand.

I think it is horrible how they are going after these men so hard who are older. It also upsets me that they refuse so many compassionate release requests. These are men and deserve to be treated with compassion regardless. Worse criminals are not only still on the street, but are sitting behind benches making the decisions. They Going after all these old men because they have the knowledge and the respect and the power to build and rally the troops... The mob wasn't no loosen it organization it was a highly structured organization that blackmailed the FBI Hoover, held the docs for the CIA in the war, assassinated a sitting president, created Las Vegas, control the unions, they were involved in a plot to kill a leader of another country Cuba president Castro, and had their hand in about any and everything... Level of power that they able to accomplish was amazing
And it all stemmed from 5 old men in New York that ran the 5 main families...
Stress can cause a lot of severe illness, I used to get nausea and stomach cramps brought on by stress and have got to try and stay calm now no matter the situation otherwise it brings on awful symptoms, stomach just starts making noises and then the nausea hits and you feel like your having a heart attack with cold sweats etc 🤮😬 it probably contributed greatly to Andrew Russos demise.
Well they did atrocious things. I'm old I killed alot of people let me leave prison because I'm too old.

For someone who has lived off the political capital of all US citizens, for 50 years, he sure has very few good friends on the world stage. You would think he would be incredibly close to some of the world's leaders, but no, he is really an outsider.

You're so right Michael you're one of the few that's left to know how things were I was unfortunate to be a young kid to witness all this craziness and it does devastate your life it affecting me for a couple decades the stuff that I seen but my father always said there's no difference between the law and the mob one is legal and one isn't and no in the war and the government is more corrupted than the Hop and that is a fact

But if we go by that hard line way of thinking, then we as people in general do not deserve God's Grace. If the Father desires you and loves you, then who are we to say and do differently?
It’s like anyone of us; you yourself may not be evil but sometimes our behavior or personal choices can be- it doesn’t make us any kind of way; we just are human and don’t always make the best decisions all the time. There is a difference. Hope it helps.🙂

I understand that this man was your friend, and my condolences for the sadness you are feeling, but what do you mean "he was a good guy?" Are you saying that he was never involved in murder or preying on other people for his own gain?
I don't think you are because I don't take you as someone that is dishonest. So, with all due respect Michael, he was not a good guy. He was a good guy to you, but in the scheme of things he was a bad guy.
In the grand scheme of things, YOU are also a bad guy. Sure---you're a law-abiding cutizen, but if we're gonna be technical, we're all bad guys because we all come short to the Father.
This is why the Father looks at THE HEART. When that murderer crucified next to Christ acknowledged Him, did Christ bring up his past criminal all activity? The robber on the cross opposite the Saviour mocked him, but did Christ bring up his criminality?

Yes---you will know them by their fruits. In this case, we see the good and the bad fruit that the Mafia provides. You wouldn't be here listening if no good fruit was produced. Michael is that good fruit taught by who YOU deem as very bad men.

My belief is that if you murder people and spend your whole life preying on other people for your own gain, you are a bad person. I have never murder anyone, and I don't prey on people. I try not to hurt other people in any way, and I am doing a good job at it because it's not that hard.
If someone spends their whole life being a bad person and then at the end of their life they get scared and repent, that means very little to me.
On the other hand, if you have someone like Michael that changed his way mid-life when he still has many years left, that's a different issue.
