I once destroyed two bandsaw trunnions and a blade cutting like that,I suggest a v block underneath to provide better support and keep it from catching and spinning

Nice piece of turning but incredibly dangerous cross cutting cylindrical pieces without a jig on a band saw
Correct, a broken blade is the least of your worries when i tgoes wrong.
