    This video sent a shiver down my spine. It took me back to when I had shin splints and then gave myself a stress fracture. Glad that you have caught it in time before it gets any worse Francois. Keep on top of the strength and try to keep the walking going. Don't run through it anymore like I did. I have a few vids about my recovery journey on my channel if you want to see what I did.     Good luck with the recovery 👍🏻 I had shin splints early in my running journey. I seem to recall that rest, strengthening the lower legs and trying to minimise heel striking were the most useful factors in my recovery. I gather that the anterior tibialis muscles try to decelerate the front of your foot after the heel hits the ground, to avoid a hard slapping effect on the ground. Done too many times in a row it eventually gets tired of being overworked.

      Thanks, recovery is going well at the moment. The S&C is really helping. I am a overpronating heel striker so possibly the worse combo, but strengthening the lower leg is part of the weekly routine now. Thanks for the support. 👍

    Good idea to take a break Francois. This was really informative, I've had shin splint rear their head here and there but never knew much about what was going on so great to find out more. Wishing you a swift recovery 👍

      Things are looking better day by day. I think the S&C is helping a lot, but also easing back into it. How are you getting on with your kettle bell workouts? I'm loving them!

    Dude sorry to hear about the shin splints. Injuries suck major ass, hopefully you’ll be good for the LL100 later in the year 🤘🏻

      Thanks John, that's my focus, getting to the LL100 start line, healthy and fit. The strength work is going well and feels like making a difference. I have time (and your videos) to keep me going! 😉

    3 years ago when preparing for my very first Ultra(walking 50 mile) I decided to do some running, went to quick and smashed my legs to pieces, since then I have discovered that running is quite often either avoiding injury or as a golfer has to do when his swing goes wrong, find out what’s gone wrong then try and put it right, last year I did a 46 mile ultra (walking/running) but wasn’t satisfied with my performance, so entered a 32 miler which i completed and ran the entire way, but in my attempt to do so got really bad capsulitis, because I had signed up I just iced it every day, but even after discovering Enertor insoles which have made a massive difference and definitely lower the impact on the lower legs(certain the would help for shin splints) I still carried on training and putting big miles in, after the second ultra I took a month off then started training again, but I still wasn’t right so stopped again, then at the start of this year I have started slowly and low mileage and then added a small extra mileage each week, it’s made a real difference I am certain I am now fully recovered and can once again enjoy my running, I think it’s hard to stop training when your signed up for an event and it’s also hard to want to continually improve without risking some form of injury, I think S&C is vital, but haven’t done much this year and still feel good.
    I hope you find the answer, but it’s probably going to be recovering fully before pushing yourself again, good luck and definitely try a pair of enertors, I’ve got some speedsgoat 5’s with the enertors they are bliss 👍

      Thanks so much for this advice. It makes perfect sense and I'm committed to recovery correctly this time. I'll look up those Enertors, as I mention in the video, I love the speedgoats and hopefully this can support even more. I'm also now onboard with the S&C and stretching which I never did before and think it's made a difference already. I've had a month of just S&C before introducing some light runs this month and things are feeling good again. Thanks for the comment and support and hope you manage to stay injury free as well.
