I have read Barbara Cartland books as I was a Teenager. It is nice to see one of her books in a film. Those were the days in the 80s being a Teeny, and reading her books as a girl. Wonderful it remind me on those days.
Barbara Cartland. Dear lord save us. All I can think about is that crazy Little Britain spoof of her churning out the period potboilers, performed by Matt Lucas in drag.
Serena "I think Nicholas rides a horse nice too." Isabel "Nicholas rides well enough, but not like Justin." Nick "Thank you kindly Ma'am." HAHAHAHA 😂😂😂😂
The jolly old man as you call him is Stewart Granger...a leading man back in the 1930s-40s. He is in this movie because it was a Gainsboro film and in his early career he was part of the Gainsboro film actors. You should see some of his romantic leads.
+Ruriko Kramp-Gil You can tell in the scene he first appears in that his breathing is compromised. I looked up his bio and found out that he had tuberculosis.
"My apologies for keeping you waiting". This statement is singular, not plural. Justin rode his horse and stopped right in front of Serena, he didn't apologize to the group and say something to the effect of "my apologies for keeping you all waiting", because he only cared about her feelings. Serena gives Justin this mesmerizing look and this is when she's starting to let her feelings for him show. The look of love and admiration is written all over her face and both of them are fixated on each other. Lady Elizabeth also notices this, she see's Justin looking at Serena and the look of love on Serena's face, this is why she get's mad and rushes off. But Justin continues to hold Serena's gaze because he can feel it too. It's the subtleness of actions and responses within this film that you have to pick up on. Justin doesn't move at all but remains fixated on Serena and when she starts to move her horse to take off, the way he turns and rushes after her is symbolic for I'm going after this woman.
Justin's Heart had to have stopped for a split second. The girl is confused about her feelings and then to top it off she witnessed a murder. So she hugged the man who has her confused because she feels safe with him.
I agree with you and he appears a little confused as well. It's almost as if he was reluctant to hug her; he kept his arms open while she hugged him. His feelings are more apparent than he is willing to admit at this point.
@@lindak.3833 He didn't hug her back not because he was confused about his feelings but for the sake of propriety. Back than man and unwed women were more careful about the shared level of intimacy in public, that being reserved for close relatives and spouses. She was not his wife yet, if anyone sow them this could have ruined her reputation.
You know, when they were getting ready to go riding and Justin rode up and said, my apologies for keeping you waiting. Serena gave him a stare as if she knew something...well, we know what that is; she knows the family secret that his father is not dead. Justin doesn't know that she knows. However, Justin stared back her; his facial expression was almost vulnerable...like ,"what does she know"? Did anyone else catch that?
Hi Linda, that's an interesting perspective. I think she smiles at him the way that she does because she's starting not to be afraid of having feelings for him. Up until this point she's been so guarded to not fall for him because of his perceived reputation. Getting to know his father and understanding the family secrets allows her to see a different side to him, she's allowing her guard to be lowered and so she starting to show being smitten by him and it was impressive how he rode the horse.

In 90 they did A Duel of Hearts
I asked for the book a hazard of hearts as a Xmas 🎄 gift 3 years ago . Very good
When she hugged him, I think his heart stopped for a second :)
Serena is young but she is strong-willed and brave.
"Unhand me sir! You're too sharp!" I love how she says it!

"Oh what a magnificent beast!" Confused tho if it's the stallion or justin or both 😂
In the actual book, Serena actually rides the horse to try to find Justin in London
@@LucyLovettLestrange This happens in the movie too and sly-fox Justin uses this as a pretext to marry her as soon as possible.
Stewart Grainger is charmimg and handsome.
