There are two distinct styles of taekwondo. Chang Hon style, which is the older military style taekwondo, and Kukkiwon style, which is the new sporting style. There are other styles too that are derived from these two, but they're the main ones. The style used in the Olympics is the latter. It is less about defending yourself against an attacker, and more about scoring points, as you say.
@@bruhbro1181 i did tae kwon doe up to red belt, honestly i enjoyed sparring but i dont like how its basically a pogo stick hopping contest and that punching is nearly "banned" from the sport. Its almost like using punches are wrong, it just doesnt make sense to limit yourself so much. I just love doing forms, other than that, tae kwon doe is lowkey lame. I did chinese kung fu up until purple belt but had to move as a child, its much better in several ways, from the belt system to the weapon system and forms associated with it, its absolutely insane the amount of techniques you learn from there, its amazing, would go back in a heartbeat if i could!

Their weaker kicks that are weirdly used to counter or in a safer defense manner, but the use of electronic score equipment has heavily pushed their used in higher level tournaments. A lot of local tournaments that don't use them look very different and are much more aggressive

Yeah. Even fights at my club are more intense than this. Fight like these 2 people shown against people from my club and you'll most likely get demolished.
As someone who's done tkd for many years now, this is in all essence counter to counter to counter taekwondo and is pretty far from what you see in regular tournaments

They don't put their guard up and don't throw feints because doing so is a waste of their non-existent stamina. The "kwon" doesn't exist in this stupid sport, so this is not tae kwon do
they are blocking.....the low hands is to block body kicks(for head shots they simply sway out the way) they fight that way because it is the most effective for the RULES in which they fight. obviously. using your logic I could say the same about why boxers leave there legs squared up and weight on their front foot makes them weak against leg kicks and take downs. Or why Jiujitsu guys pull guard when in a street fight they can get slammed. etc etc....its just a game/sport and depending on the rules dictates how they fight. lol

Before the electronic sensors, Olympic taekwondo was filled with very fast and strong kicks. Men’s TKD used to look like two tornadoes fighting with all the very fast round house into 360 spin kick combos. Now the electronic sensors turned into foot tapping, with zero combos.
I've trained in quite a few martial arts. Even a little in Tang Soo Do. Which is a different style of Tae Kwan Do. Most of the Black Belts were head hunters lol. Anyway for those who don't respect this art I can tell for a fact it's just as effective as any other fighting style. That's not to say it was my favorite personally speaking but there are some bad dudes in these varying styles of Karate 🥋

Why is karate and Taekwondo 2 seperate sports in the Olympics ? They both look like kick boxing, in martial arts form. Watching both of them I cant tell any difference other than Karate does not wear helmets or chest pads. Can anyone explain ?
Because REAL Karate and Taekwondo has different focus. Karate focuses more on punches and body strength & durability, while Tae Kwon Do focuses more on kicks, stamina, and endurance. Of course you can't see it here because this here and that there on the Olympics are not Tae Kwon Do and Karate. They're but a fcking joke.
