@@MyrtelinaReyes-en3ux I have a permanent resident visa. Once you have a permanent resident visa you qualify for work in Mexico. Just realize that working in Mexico is a drastic pay cut from the USA. There are minimum wages in Mexico that are as low as $1 an hour. The average full time job in Mexico pays badly. About the equivalent of $400-$550 US a month. Some require you work Monday through Saturday and only have Sunday off for some measly $125 a week. So getting a remote job is critical that is US based. Many US remote jobs refuse to hire people outside the US. So you need to have some heavy duty hard to get skills for those. Being bilingual in Spanish and English with college degrees and some computer savvy is your best bet. Also being freelance. Realize that there are some really well educated Mexican bilingual remote workers working for US companies and being paid $3 dollars an hour for their work. Many US companies exploit educated Mexican workers. If you want decent pay that is based in the US be ready to understand what you need to do.

@sidkimuwallif4597 if she is an older woman she has to realize she needs to speak Spanish well. Because dealing with Mexican immigration and having to get her paperwork in order in English might make the prices go up for paperwork. She needs to learn Spanish. I think speaking English only in all of Latin America is going to be hard without it on that budget.

@@sidkimuwallif4597 If you have a very tight budget and you have to get all your documents translated officially in Mexico and your lease too? It is a cost. Plus, you get higher prices for the same type of property just because you need to use English-speaking realtors or rental agents. That is almost universally true in Latin America. I found houses that were drastically less in price than the ones offered by English-speaking sales people in Mexico. You speak Spanish well and fluently you can read your own documents. Do your own research. Make your own connections. You want everything in English done for you? $$$ The prices go up. That is reality.

@@JohnnieV It's hot all year long in Merida. Many say that there are two seasons in Merida, hot and hotter. I live where you can be outside all year long with no bugs or mosquitoes and you don't need a/c, my electric bill is around $7.00us per month. It's something that many people fail to consider when planning their budget. If you are considering living in Merida and want to be comfortable while spending most of your daylight hours indoors, plan on spending at a minimum of $100.00us per month on just your electricity. That's if you have your a/c on in just one room! If you want your whole home to be cool it could be twice that. That's enough for 72 fish tacos where I live! BTW-In Mexico the more electricity you use the more it costs per kilowatt! There is a "tier" system where if you are regular high use consumer even if you barely use any electricity it will cost a lot more than the average person. Buena suerte!

There are a few other ways to adquire residency in Mexico besides proving income. Adjusting the inmigration status is one of them, among few others. One thing is applying for a mexican residency while being out of Mexico, and a whole different thing is applying for it while physically in Mexico. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Yes... It does get hot. However, many homes in the lower price range tend not to have a/c... It's cheaper to add one versus jumping up to the next tier of rent that may include one. We're talking about buying a new one for $250 versus paying higher monthly rent for a place with one. In this range, they may have one in the bedroom, but the living room typically won't have one. So you're still having to decide if you'll add one.

You're absolutely right about living in Mexico is like going back in time. The family structure here is mostly still intact unlike the U.S. and most Mexican people are conservative and religious with Catholicism being the dominant religion here. You still see children playing with their parents in the Zocalo or main square even during the evening, where as in the U.S. you don't see that anymore. It's good if you can learn a few words of Spanish every day and have conversations with the locals. Sure there's bad areas and places in every city or town you shouldn't hang out but if you use common sense and stay out of sketchy places like certain clubs and bars you'll be fine. Mexico has the highest number of American expats living here than any other country in the world.
