    As a local, I'm happy Stelvio pass exists. It attracts tourists, campers, caravans and bikers so that normal people can have fun on adjacent roads in Graubunden, or in Valais, even in a middle of Sunday in the summer.

      secret would be to do it as top gear did and block the road for an hour so the rich people can have fun with their supercars

    I just want to calrify that having driven the Stelvio several times (and other passes in the Alps) it's all about the time of the day you drive trhough the pass. If you drive it at 6:00-7:00 in the morning or at 16:00-17:00-18:00 in the afternoon it's a great road for driving with close to 0 traffic. If you do the typical tourist drive in the summer, on a weekend and during the normal hours you have very high posibilites of finding the road this packed. Just plan in advance when are you actually going to go up/ down the pass and you wil have a very diferent experience driving it.

    • @superspeeders
      @superspeeders  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You still can't go that fast not being able to see around the corners. Everyone in both directions having to share the same lines makes it impossible to have too much fun unless the road is closed.

    • @alexoehler1
      @alexoehler1 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If the problem is the speed Stelvio might not be your best option. It is a 1-2-3 gear pass. There are tons of wider, less curvy passes like Grossglockner in Austria, etc...@@superspeeders

      @@superspeeders i get it you have the need for speed but personally I would rather just enjoy a relaxing drive on roads like this and see the sights. but yea cant do that either when its crowded and all you do is watch the traffic constantly. plan to do this drive someday your video helps me plan it. and probably go as early as the sun rises in the morning.

    Rob, the Stelvio is a legendary climb in the bike race called The Giro D'Italia. So that is why there are so many cyclists on the road. cyclists want to ride the same roads as the pros. You would run into a similar crowd of cyclists in France on L'Ape D'Huez.

    Reminds me of my first experience on the Autobahn. There are very few unrestricted sections, especially in the north and western part of the country. But the congestion made it hard to run consistent high speeds. The best I did, illegally, was the final 300 miles from a service plaza north of Gottingen, Germany to Esbjerg, Denmark in 3 hours and 10 minutes. I put the cruise on 100mph and only slowed down going through Hanover, Hamburg and when I turned off the E45 on t the E20.

    Oh Rob, if you want another Good one (i'm using it sarcastically) It's Gavia, and make sure to do it around the 15th of August! For once it's narrower than Stelvio, worst surface, no guard rail! And if you get the date right (national vacaion in italy) you get a ton of traffic, especially Camper van! Lat time i did it on My Z900 RS and was having problem fitting my bike on the road, i did it cussing all the way down!

      I did Alps with my 360 Modena, a very analogue car, late August 2021. We specifically avoided all the "over hyped" passes like Stelvio and Furka and such, went for totally different route and there was next to 0 traffic. No tourists, caravans, no bicyclist, no motorcyclist, only locals. Free advice to SSRob:
      Route was: Vipiteno -> San Leondarno & San Martino passes -> Merano (can be seen in this video also) -> Lago di Santa Giustina (a lake) -> Castelletto -> Molveno -> Ponte Arche -> Riva del Garda. One day, easily. Nothing but pure enjoyment and absolutely no stress (because of said things, tourist etc. were non existent).
      Also there's epic mountain roads at the middle part of Italy, called Apennine Mountains. Take SS73bis from Urbino to San Giustino. One truely EPIC route. And I guarantee, 0% of tourist, cyclist, caravans. Its middle of nothing, no tourist attractions.

    Hello Rob,
    I do not expect this comment to be popular. And realistically, I do not expect you to care.
    But the sense of entitlement and arrogance that come across in this video are an enormous turn off.
    I have watched your videos on an off for years. I subscribed 3 years ago and have watched almost every video since. My spouse and I have discussed signing up for one of the Adventure Drives.
    I have deeply enjoyed your series about GC'ing your house, the Sorted series (which I was contemplating submitted our project car for), and the transparency and insights you provide into your business.
    But in this video, rather than respecting other road users, all I hear is you complain. And I see you zipping around cyclists in what to me look like some close and uncomfortable (for the cyclists) passes.
    This is all on a road that is scenic. It is a climb that frequently makes an appearance in the Giro d'Italia, one of the three biggest cycling races. And frankly, it's a beautiful place to enjoy the scenery, not to drive quickly.
    Anyways, I'm out.
    On a daily basis the riskiest thing I do is walk or ride a bike. It's risky because of inattentive drivers and drivers that are in such a rush that the X number of seconds they're going to save getting to the next red light are apparently more important than my life. And this video hits that chord for me.
    I hope in the future you can show your fellow road users the same respect as Matt Farah does in his videos.
