I don't think that was a birdstrike. It was gear dust/smoke. After takeoff, large aircraft wheels are braked to spin them down before they enter the undercarriage bay. Sometimes it happens, usually to new or extra dirty brakes.
NOBODY refers to that as plane watching really. It's plane spotting because of the different types of planes on an airport. There are different types of planes, did you know that?
