With the gain backed right off, the volume at 3 o'clock and the EQ knobs just before midnight into a high gain amp it does that TubeScreamer thing where it makes rhythm sounds super tight. It appears to have a similar mid hump. Bass control is really useful in dialing in just how tight or loose the low end feels, and the amount of clean boost available is ludicrous. Rolling on the pedal's gain into moderately dirty amp brings out some very grungy tones without getting quite as mashed up as a full on fuzz.
Benjamin Kerkhoff How does your pedal sound when compared with this vid? is it similar? which amp are you using? All the other vids about this one sound like cap but this one is pretty sweet. I was looking fora J Rockett The Dude and stumbled on this one..sound pretty similar for a fraction of the cost
Joel Martinho I used it through my Tiny Terror, setting the amp up more on the clean side, that way I had "2 channels". Great sound, the bass/treble knobs are a awfully useful since the tiny terror only has a tone knob. I also used it as a boost sometimes 😃 Got great rock tones. Ran it through my vox ac30 with great results then again I can put anything in front of that amp and its tonal bless. I could literally use every setting on this pedal (Boost, light distortion, heavy distortion etc) I have also ran it through my VHT Classic 6, set clean (reminds me of fender clean tones). Very simple amp with volume and tone only. Used the crayon as a boost and light gain for a bluesy tone. Most videos don't do this little guy a damn bit of justice, this video probably being the best of the bunch. I decided to take a chance and found it to be absolutely worth it. I guess I could record some samples if you wanted, if interested just message me. Hope this helps and keep picking!
Joel Martinho through a tube amp it doesn't sound thin like it does in this video. This pedal through a tube amp is really fun tonally and functionally. I forgot to mention my guitars i used. Gibson Les Paul Studio Deluxe, PRS SE semi hollow body, Classic Player Jazzmaster, and a MIM Fender start with Tex Mex pups in the neck and middle, and a Seymour Duncan lil 59' in the bridge.
dig your demo and of course, awesome playing my friend! Ive been checking this pedal out but all the demos I've seen are horrible until I saw yours. thank you...
I love this O D pedal it's sounds so natural sound.like a peavey classic 30 or a lynyrd skynyrd tone which I've been trying to get for a long time . I just bought one, can't wait to use it...
I just bought this pedal but to my surprise, it's pretty noisy when the volume is at 9 o'clock, is that normal? I've seen plenty of videos but I never noticed any noise at all so I don't know what it could be, help please.
+LeiAherne7 The JHS is supposed to sound like plugging straight in to an old recording console. Kind of an overdriven pre-amp kind of vibe. This one seems to be a clone of Paul C.'s Timmy. TL;DR: They are alike in name alone.
You're more showing off your fast licks, and not so much letyting us hear what the pedal actually sounds like... slow down... give us some long tasty examples of what the tyhing can do... I'm not really impressed with your playing... lot's of flash and no sould... my opinion
But of course you do realise that these are both different pedals, one is a 69 and the other a 76 so the sounds are going to be tonally different, why didn't you demo both pedals?
you can use a digital EMULATOR for an amp, but thats NOT an amp..Fair enough, lots of people plug their guitars into computers, but do most of those people use lots of pedals ? I thought that crap was all built into those programs OR that, "pedals" can be downloaded as "apps"..not much future in actual pedal sales there.."lets allow these custom shop single coils"......allow them to what ? A DIGITAL EMULATOR could make them sound like Black rhino farting noises produced by a polyphonic Moog synthesizer. This whole demo , is useless

I got this pedal today and am blown away with all the sounds I can get out of it. Excellent demo!

First real demo of this pedal on YT. Thanks.
+Michael Kish Your very welcome dude.
Joss
Dude can jam. Very versatile not stuck in shredding and knows his way around the neck just throwing that out there.

Why the uncommon amp? it makes it hard to tell what the pedal really sounds like through a standard tube amp like most of us use.
This. It’s horse’s shite.
Great demo, thanks...
Absolutly great video ! Man you are the prince of legato !!!
Is the 76 version exactly the same with 69?
Only the design changes?
I just bought this pedal but to my surprise, it's pretty noisy when the volume is at 9 o'clock, is that normal? I've seen plenty of videos but I never noticed any noise at all so I don't know what it could be, help please.
awesome playing,awesome tone !!
this pedal also works great with a bass guitar, trust me it sounds awesome
Love that pedal, for the price it cant be beat!
Wicked playing. Very nice, very tight
Nice demo!
Great playing!
own one, great with bass guitar!
Neko T i already try to my bass and it was soo good!! planning to buy this crayon for my bass
Aren't this unit comes with a bass knob either?
Amazing review and demo!👌🏼
And the bass control?????
what about the bass control?
The parts inside suggests me, it's a BB Preamp clone.
Didn't JHS just release a pedal called the 'Crayon' also?
+LeiAherne7 The JHS is supposed to sound like plugging straight in to an old recording console. Kind of an overdriven pre-amp kind of vibe.

JHS are an unscrupulous company that have ripped off SO many designs...straight up RIPPED OFF. ask Devi Ever herself on facebook.
@@aaronabubo Not the Timmy. BB Preamp.
great demo, but the tone of these EHX Crayons reminds me of a Timmy pedal.
What model is that Fender??
How could you even miss that in the VERY FIRST TWO MINUTES of the video?
Lol the beginning was hilarious
"All the notes come out". ya man..it's because you are that good 🥴..but anyway, it's a great od pedal 🤘🏿🤘🏿
i can imagine the sound of the pedal, could be good for drums/synths too. but i dont like the sound of the room.
Pedal engaged, bass is cut.
Please cut the crap prior to the review.
And maybe do something about that 'stache.
Played a shit ton of leads no let hear some rhythm.
2:39-2:53
A lot of bollocks before you got to the review... Don't do that often.
Too much noodling, just play some chords ffs we wanna hear how it sounds for longer periods of time than .1 seconds

sounds harsh and fizzy to me, in a negative way. looks like a cheap generic overdrive with a more flexible eq. sorry, i'll stick with my danelectro's
But of course you do realise that these are both different pedals, one is a 69 and the other a 76 so the sounds are going to be tonally different, why didn't you demo both pedals?
Missglamrus1 they are exactly they same except for the box art
The numbers indicate the finish option, not the actual internals themselves as mentioned in the video.

This whole demo , is useless
