fun fact: lin manuel miranda wrote “you’re welcome” specifically for the rock’s vocal range so that he would sound great. he researched past clips of him singing as a bit he’d do in his wrestling days. then wrote the song around that.

Ms. Lea has such a crystal clear voice and was able to preserve the quality of her voice through the years...she woundn't be picked as the very first Kim in the musical Miss Saigon if she wasn't good...😊
@@charmaine919 I don't think Tristan said that she didnt sing well or wasn't good. "Nasal" doesn't equate to "bad", he was commenting on a particular way she was using her voice to achieve a particular sound, the 'voice' she used as jasmine had qualities that were different from the way she sung in mulan, and i have no doubt that those were both conscious choices to suit the tone and style of the movie and the songs. So please don't assume that when he says nasal he means bad singing, he's commenting on a quality that she's intentionally put there or been directed to put there. He was accurate in his statements.

People can sing differently depending on the sound they're going for. He may know they're the same person, or he may not, but its more on the vocals not the person.

In my opinion that is the Disney show with the best music.
The music low-key made me cry sometimes you can HEAR the emotion.
For all the people here saying this guy is mean or annoying with what he's saying, I can obviously tell that none of you have ever been in as much as a high school choir. If you were, you'd hear it so much different. First of all, pointing out how a singer achieves the certain character they're voicing was never a criticism. He's working out what they did to make the sound. As a huge reminder, not once did he ever insult their singing or degrade it. Instead he praised them heavily. And the reason it's different when a real singer or vocalist listens to him breakdown their voices, is because it teaches you what you need to do in order to achieve a similar tone and sound if you hadn't before. You guys need to learn how to be more appreciative 🤦♀️ you're so mean-spirited.
I didn't even notice what he was doing was annoying people.. because I'm a choir person too and it's like you can hear it in everything.

So Lea Salonga is known for creating the "princess voice" you picked up on. She was Jasmine and Mulan's singer (not the voice actor for speaking lines) and she is known for her broadway. Surprised you didn't know her already. Her clear nasal thing is what shaped the Disney Princess sound! Would love for you to react to her more, perhaps her in Les Miserables
I'm also surprised that a vocal coach doesn't know who Lea Salonga is. She's amazing, definitely a legend and a former child prodigy.

She's the first asian woman to ever to play Eponine in Les Miserables on Broadway and the West End, she's played Kim in Miss Saigon on Broadway and the West End(which she won a tony for), she's also the singing voice for both disney princesses Mulan and Jasmine. She's a literal living legend who deserves more credit than she gets. She's Filipina so her range is crazy. She's also my biggest inspiration in life.
