Laughing at yourself while painting - paint like Amedeo Modigliani portrait

- Painting a portrait can be difficult when you think you can’t. Laughing about yourself can help you get in a playful mood and bypass all your blocks. I will paint like Amadeo Modigliani portrait and show you that you don’t have to paint perfect to paint a portrait. He often painted Jeanne Hebuterne, his girl, muse and the mother of his firstborn. But painted Modigliani Jeanne Hebuterne at her best? Not at all. Amedeo Clemente Modigliani paintings look strange, the elongation of the neck looks weird and not at all flattering. Modigliani Hebuterne both died at young age. Modigliani paintings are now very famous but bot during his life. I guess Modigliani art was ahead of time.

Materials
The art materials I use in the videos are not sponsored.
I prefer to work on multi-purpose paper, more info in this video: • How to choose the RIGH...
In almost all my videos I use with Winsor&Newton Galeria acrylics, if not, I will say so in the video.
Other materials I use are in random order: 5, 10 and 40mm brushes, palette knives, acrylics medium, Ecoline liquid watercolor, Lyra color pencils, Lyra soft pastels, oil pastels, Stabilo color pencils, paper palette pad and basic masking tape. I also use household items like a permanent marker, scrub sponge, scissors, paper towel, and so on.

What a good idea, instructive and fun. Seems a shame to put it away and never look at it again.
Thanks, Elizabeth. I often place my latest painting on a spot where I see it daily. It helps to see things I can improve and things I did well. Looking at it for a week or 2 also feels like bonding. Have a wonderful day, Albert
Oh I’m soo glad I’ve found your channel!🤩🤩🤩
Hi Mirrorir, thanks, I'm happy too you found me. Albert
I absolutely LOVE the triptych of the initial portraits at 3:42! I'd have stopped right there! They'd look fantastic framed and hung on a wall.
Thanks vjhreeves, but I couldn't have been able to make the point of trying even if you think you can't. Whatever you do, it's about the learning process. Have a good day, Albert
Niet slecht Albert! en met terugwerkende kracht ben ik al je video's aan het checken. Goed bezig. Groetjes uit Utrecht.
Bedankt, whoiskc. Veel plezier met bingen. Albert
And the answer is simple...More hair on the top of the head....I burst into laughter....Thank you for being the reason I smiled today...
Hi Kikudesign, thanks. Laughing (at yourself) or smiling is important 😁 If you can paint or not isn't always important. Bye, Albert
I am going to adopt the light hearted approach.
Hi Peanut Gallery, yes, join the club. Lighthearted is so much more fun. Happy painting, Albert
I had a blast!! Ready to make at least four different portraits :)) Thank you for an amazing inspiration.
Hi Paneko, thanks. It's great to hear you're going to have 4xfun! Enjoy, Albert
Woow glad to find your channel..lots of inspirations, thank you..and keep them coming!
Thanks Maya, glad to have you here. Happy painting, Albert
Really enjoyed this! I used watercolor to fill in the portrait but black acrylic for the outline. Love how it turned out! I really enjoy your videos
Thanks Marlow, for sharing your process. It's always your personal interpretation of what I show that brings the joy. Albert
1st to view and like!!! Really love your portrait. She looks like she closed her eyes while you were painting her. The blue color became her eyeshadow as if she's wearing make-up. Yeah, that's right. I see a principal of a university. Oooh,i'll call your artwork, "madam principal".
Btw,congrats for increasing numbers of subscribers! I still remember that i am #543. Keep up the good work about unfamous abstract painters!!! I cant believe they are so many of them!! Thank you for introducing them to us!! 😊
Hi Jennifer, thanks. This was fun to do. Yes the numbers go up. Nice! Haha, madam principal. It looks like she has a little smile, enjoying herself.
And yes there are plenty of abstract artist to make videos about. See you next week. Bye, Albert

The result was beautiful! And this video inspired me to try portraits, thank you.
Hi Mayra, yes, that is what I was aiming at. Great, have fun trying it. And remember, laugh at yourself!

Hi Salim, thanks. Go ahead and paint a portrait. And have fun doing. Bye, Albert
Albert
Yes. Was that Jeanne at her best? 8:06. But maybe it speaks more to us than the actual photograph. How can that be? And why did he spend so much detail on those scraps of paper hanging on the wall? 🙂 Some magic in there somehow. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks, ravingcyclist. I don't understand a lot about his way of working. But the group learned about his style and worked more freely, making odd portraits. Albert
Geweldige filmpjes.
genial! Gracias desde Argentina
Hi Rosana, fue divertido hacer (it was fun to do. Bye, Albert
@@ImperfectPaintings SUPER DIVETIDO

The end, marvellous.

Gracias
Thanks Mariela
I like it a lot🤙🏻
Thanks Maryam! Bye, Albert
I love your style of teaching. It is extremely encouraging! I am just wondering what paper you are using.
Hi 보가위바위, thanks. The paper is a multi purpose paper, to be used with pencil, oil pastel or acrylics. I advise to go to your local art supplies store, explain what you want and buy a few different sheets to try out. Hope this helps, Albert
What a fun demonstration, just painting loosely. ☕️☕️
Indeed, Karen, go lighthearted and things will look like fun. Albert
Really loved that so calming in these crazy times. Do you think in the original picture he put crackle glaze on?
Hi Vikings daughter, thanks. I hope you stay safe. Glad I can help. Perhaps he used crackle glaze, but It can also be of aging, although the paintings aren't that old. Albert
I was laughing as he was sketching them out, at one point i saw a potato, but it ended up looking brilliant
Hi Billy, thanks. Enjoy making a portrait yourself. Albert
Isn’t it amazing how that can happen! The lesson here is to persevere, to follow through in love and trust of the process! Bravo!
Thanks Wiley, spot on, process is king and queen. Albert
... el retrato de Francis Bacon es como el arte de Mel McCuddin...
Thanks, magso, for your suggestions. I'll think about it. Albert
I LOVE your calm and playful way of teaching! So inspiring! Thanks for your beautiful videos ❤
Thanks, authentic. Happy painting, Albert
Really enjoy and appreciate your videos - - your approach, your spirit…(but I find the music really annoying and distracting - - we are trying to watch you and there’s is this loud distraction - - it adds nothing - - always breathe a sigh of relief when you turn it down to talk)
Hi Stuart, thanks. Sorry to hear you don't like the music. For me, music has a function, it distracts my thinking, brings me in a softer, less rational mindset. I need it. Sorry, can't help you on that one. In my newer videos I do more talking, see it as a compromise 😉 Anyway, thanks for letting me know, you probably aren't the only one. Happy painting and stay safe, Albert
Albert - I completely understand your comment about painting with music - - I am exactly the same way when I paint andfor the same reasons you wrote. My comment wasn’t about painting with music, it was about viewing your videos with music when I don’t want to be distracted! anyway just my opinion and I still really enjoy your videos and just turn the sound down :-)
