I thought so, too. But the more I Iook at it it looks like it would be a very easy one to copy, and rather unsophisticated compared to his other works. A fantasy where he was never really there in his mind ....and Sorrento, Italy is so beautiful, as is that entire Almafi coast. ..(didn't think US $ at 9M was too much before realizing HK$ are about 1)8 of US ones).
me, too. After looking a bit longer it seems it could be easily copied. As a fantasy taking us back to ancient Rome, he didn't seem to really imagine himself there, or just not so technically involved, more like for a children's book illustration? I thought $ at 9 m US was reasonable enough until I saw that the $HD was about 1/8th. I'd still like to have it, though. Sorrento, Italy is so beautiful, as is the entire Amalfi coast, no wonder he got inspired, even if those featured in it, and the idea seem unlike his usual productions, sweetness into saccharine.
@@karllieck9064 Thank you for pointing that out. Renoir painted it in Italy; thus the togas. Might this work have been a bridge between Impressionism and Symbolism? In the decades that followed, scenes similar to this would appear everywhere in the arts from painting to dance.
LOL when he said ‘that’s very US but we’ll take it’ after someone bid 19,250,000, that (clearly american) guy sitting down got so mad when he realised what was just said. shaking his head every so often, deep in a sulk, motioning to a fellow american across the room for solidarity hahahahaha
To be honest, I would be more happy for the rest of my life if I gave that money to those in need-more so than seeing this painting on the wall till the day I die- not a great work of art-the artists name increases the price-for investment purposes.
I just saw this and missed the bidding. Damn!
I am surprised this sold for so little.

1990 was Renoir's year with a $78 million USD sale of his most iconic, of his 4000 paintings, ''At the Moulin de la Galette,'' from 1876.
It really isn't one of Renoir's best efforts. The painting looks kind of cheesy.

They got a deal!
Next to his contemporaries his work appears like the illustrations on hallmark cards

WOW one day my art will be in this arena
You may be long gone to know about it unfortunately...That kind of money never benefit the creator but rather greedy investors.
@@xmj6830Excellent comment. Art belongs to humanity, not billionaires who lock it away from sight in a vault. It’s disgusting.
I would have painted one for them for £800 pounds if they supply me the paint from B&Q … I Paint Walls so I’m a good painter,👨🎨
Sonderangebot?
The world we live in is totally messed up. Unfortunately, nothing can be done about it. Sad putrid people.
내가 좋아하는색감 다 있네요
이걸 좋아하는 사람이 소유해야는데 돈많은 사람이 가져가는게 쫌 아쉽네요
5 € !!! Ok for 5 € ????
Each to there own , but it's obscene really in my opinion..
No one believes its genuine thats why so low.

Darlings, more money than sense .
I don't care for Renoir, and this is one of his less attractive works IMO.
We get it. Your $19,500,000 bid lost. Sorry. You’ll get the next one.
@@risk5riskmks93 LOL
Agree.
Oh, I’m so sorry, you are having such a bad day
This painting is to much... all over the place...I'll pass.
Rich people toys😊
Bob Ross' paintings look much better than this.
It’s ugly.
Not too excited about this painting. Other ones of his are much better.
