If I had purchased this work, I would have immediately loaned it it out to my favorite museum! That way it could be seen and studied by those who truly love art!
insane that more than one person in the world can afford to bid. Us mortals will never see that kind of money and I´m not sure anyone (other than an entire country or a Museum) should. I only hope that they enjoy it and display it, instead of safe keeping it in some warehouse.
Dude lost control in the first half, he should have had it go up by 200K per bid with that much interest, would have weeded out the pretenders that much faster
This is crazy to say, but I thought this would sell for way higher. For such a gorgeous and important piece, I thought it would go for at least 15 million. I'm sure the bidder was estatic since this was undervalued, in my opinion.
I pray that individuals who have that much money go outside and pick a person a year and offer him/her an apartment so their body can feel some warmth tonight and their soul can hold their heart in peace. Please do it, with no judgement. Thank you
Though the frame 'works'. Maybe something thin would accentuate the work in the figures. Watch, it's a really good Victorian 'museum' copy, "In the same European family for the past 100 years."
Such an ignorant, crude, comment! Totaly lacking any cultural, or esthetic comprehension! Apparently, you reside inside a very cold and empty world! You have my sincere pity!
Beautiful Botticelli painting , at almost 9 million I think it was a steal !!!!
@@jeffreypaszko3473 All "art" is a steal
bids coming left and right that was a chaotic opening
Terrible audio, you'd think Sotheby's could afford it with a 20% BP
Exactly my thoughts and that background colour is so disappointing for such an iconic establishment.
Back Corner of a Warehouse....
so sad there is no live stream for that auction
A rare opportunity 🌿 to see this painting _🖼_💰
Never again yo be seen.

This Botticelli is qualitatively better than the Salvatore Mundi, and far cheaper too.
And the Botticelli is 100% a Botticelli
@@jaysummers9396 hehehe
The Botticelli is incomparably better in every respect
@deltasquared7777 Absolutely, that's because Salvatore Mundi was painted by an unknown five year old
Not cheap less expensive 😮!

Worth every penny.
The money here is completely
irrelevant!
What is solely significant is the
artistic genius and the
incomparable beauty!
Nothing else matters!

Fascinating.
Terrible audio and no time to truly look at the painting closely before it’s unavailable to the general public.
I turned on the closed captioning, it helped.
I guess there are many more billionaires that we thought.
:C
You have no idea, the money moving around every day is so insane it’s incomprehensible
It should belong in a museum for the world to appreciate. The money spent on tnis piece of art would feed a nation. Greed overcomes common decency.

How did it ever leave Italy!!!!
I wonder who the collectors are of these works. Impressionist and Modern, I understand.
Chinese or Russian.
Un Botticelli ,più o meno come la banana di cattelan, che cultura da brivvvvido!
I guess you can never have enough pictures of Jesus. .

@ oh dear, another pretentious art lover.
Thought it was more like 25% or more now from both ends
From 1.6 to 8.6 million pounds ! Wow!
To almost £9 million perhaps but not 'almost ten'.
8.6 million quid and Sotheby’s cant afford a decent sound system
More like 12 million
Meanwhile, Sotheby's just laid off 100 people
Yes, their sound department.
THERE AREN'T THAT MANY BOTTICELL'S THAT COME UP FOR SALE. 4 IN THE LAST 50 YEARS..FROM ANNOYOMOUS SELLERS
Oh please, Alice Walton will put it on her $600 Million Yacht, or maybe one of her Jets.
Surest sign humanity knows what's coming, Religion is an insurance policy against nothing.
No I'm not recruitng or hiring
No rynhart or McGuiness are the doctors cut if he can't shut up this lifetime that's where his soul reached
The UK house needs to learn from NY. This lighting and audio, just all the ambiance is TERRIBLE. The podium also is too far right. Ugh.
Botticelli for less than 25 million is cheap cheap cheap
Not that much
And the real Jesus actually had red hair and blue eyes in real life too. That's why.
He might've. The Levant has always been a very diverse place.
It's almost like people paint art that is intuitive and recognisable to them and their environment! Who'd a thunk?!
In Muslim tradition he's red skin so the blue eyes might not be far fetched
I'm guessing you were there in the person looking at the Christ child face to face, for you to know that for a face! Just asking.
@@walterheiliger667 I'm glad I had no clue what you're talking about.
