Bubby Brister threw 4 touchdowns on the team he would eventually play for... In one of the best Non-Roethlisberger QB performances in Steelers’ history, Bubby looked unstoppable on this beautiful day in 1990.

To name a few off the top of my head Ernie Mills, Andre Hastings, Charles Johnson, Eric Green, John Jackson, Justin Strzelczyk, Ray Seals,Joel Steed, DJ Johnson, Thomas Everrett, Darren Perry, David Little, Jerrol Williams.

During training camp at Latrobe I used to deliver food to the Steelers dorms from a local pizza shop. Bubby and merrill used to room together. Bubby ordered everyday. He was always on the phone and merrill always paid. It was a jekel and Hyde. He never spoke a word, merrill always tipped extra. Hodge was a cool.

Never seen Brister throw those timing patterns as well as he did here. What a gun arm he had too. Looked like a complete QB in this performance. Eric Green unstoppable. Stone running out of bounds just about summed him up - blazing speed but not much football savvy.

Bubby was tough and had come from behind in him. The offense was coming around the year before with Coach Tom Moore but Moore left and Noll hired Joe Walton, former Jets HC. Joe had his system, which means that he did not adapt to what the players did well but the players had to fit his system. This year, when things worked right for 9 wins, like above, they looked great. Those 7 loses, though, things did not work right and there were inadequate in game adjustments, so they looked real bad.

It was a shame things didn’t work out the way it appeared it was heading after the run in 1989. Young team maturing and the playoffs seemed inevitable. The Joe Walton hire was a bad fit and stunted the offense’s momentum. The defense had so many young bucks. Another blow was the first-round picks blown on Aaron Jones, Worley and Ricketts in the previous seasons. Imagine if those guys had panned out or those picks were used on better players.
