I have been a patient of Dr Louise for about 7 seven years now and I found her after struggling with the after effects of full hysterectomy/oophorectomy when I was 42, (I’m 56 now) and lack of GP help/knowledge - “well life isn’t like Hollywood and you’re not 21 anymore” said my female GP. I should say I work in the NHS. I travelled to Birmingham from Lancashire to see her - I immediately felt at ease and felt that finally someone was listening and understood. She absolutely sends you back to NHS care once your prescription has been finalised and hormones regulated. My NHS experience still wasn’t great so I have stayed with the Newson clinic and am happy to pay for a annual review and my prescription every 3 months - I don’t drink or smoke and choose to spend my money on my wellness. I am forever grateful.

      www.gov.uk/government/publications/implementing-a-ban-on-age-discrimination-in-the-nhs-making-effective-appropriate-decisions
The ban is only intended to prevent harmful uses of age. Positive use of age in providing, commissioning and planning services will be able to continue. The Act does not prevent differential treatment where this is objectively justified. Policy makers, commissioners, providers and individuals working in health and social care should continue to take into account someone’s age when it is right and beneficial to do so.
From 1 October 2012, it will be unlawful for service providers and commissioners to discriminate, victimise, or harass a person because of age. A person will be protected when requesting, and during the course of being provided with, goods facilities and services. If a member of the public aged 18 or over believes that they have been treated less favourably because of age, they will be able to take organisations or individuals to court - and may be awarded compensation.

Absolutely brilliant video Liz, I'm not a woman but I'm deeply angered by this topic. Anything that harms women harms us all and the attitude and actions of that charity and the BBC is utterly deplorable. Thank God for people like you who stick their neck out and stand up when a grievous wrong has occurred.
I applaud your dedicated, heartfelt service to women's health, you truly are a blessing in this world. I've followed you for years, since your QVC days, and have always been interested in the things that you are doing because I believe in you as a person and I know everything you do or say is well thought out, considered and based in sound research.
This is the best thing I have ever seen from you and I just had to heap my praise on you. I'm autistic and to my neurodivergent brain, truth, authenticity and justice are things that are of the highest importance. There is such a lack of this in the world but you are a shining light out there, you put service at the forefront of what you do, doing what you can to help, improve, educate and inform people.
Based on your presentation of this video, I'm certain that your complaint will have a huge impact.
God bless you, and thank you,
    Paul

I'm done with the BBC .... I didnt watch the Panorama programme, thinking it would be one sided & I've always found Newson health very professional....
    A Witch hunt indeed .....
If it wasn't for yourself, Louise, Davina & many more informative podcasts & videos about menopause, I would still be suffering from 2 migraines a week ,vomiting for 10 hours a day with each migraine, it was absolutely horrendous...
BECAUSE OF MY LACK OF ESTROGEN ... I am 55 years old....
My GP was dealing with my migraines ,or trying to, until i learnt so much from yourselves & could HRT be the answer?
Yes is was ,no more migraines for me after starting HRT ....Amen

All the work that Louise has done in this area and everyone else striving for equality in women’s health in this country should be applauded. Thank you so much for this. I was appalled, upset and disgusted by the Panorama programme, so I’m grateful to you for providing the links to complain, which I’ve just done. There is a self-justifying statement on their website defending the programme, and showing that they have not taken any of the criticism on board. Dr Newson is a victim of pettiness and jealousy, which sadly often seems to happen to exceptional people who show up the mediocrity of the “establishment “.

Thank you for this, having been prescribed the highest licensed dose just before the programme aired I’ve been worried even though I’m a regular listener to Louise Newson’s podcast. I should add that my GP who is a women’s health specialist told me HRT isn’t only for vasomotor symptoms (hot flushes etc) and she would have to refer me to the menopause clinic at the hospital. Long story short the increased patches are working really well and the symptoms I had been having on the 75 patch are resolved. It’s obvious that you have researched thoroughly before responding, I now understand a lot more about oestrogen doses and will happily continue on my current dose.

Liz you are a strong advocate for women and I thank you for it. This Panorama programme is reminiscent of the poor journalism in the 70/80s when HRT was portrayed as a bad solution for women with scare mongering, this caused women to shy away from HRT for decades.
Thank you for explaining from your researched knowledge Liz. BBC website here I come.

Hi Liz, this is a great video
I myself am a patient of Louise Newson and genuinely think she saved my life. My menopausal symptoms were so horrific. My GP refused to prescribe me HRT because of the cardiovascular risk despite the NICE guidelines stating that HRT does not increase risk of cardiovascular disease in women of my age and does not cause an increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease at all.
So I contacted the Louise Newson clinic, got my life back, saw my GP and showed them how much healthier I was on HRT, with charts and records and everything. And they still refused to prescribe me HRT.
I was a qualified nurse, my menopause symptoms were so severe I could no longer work and had to give up my nursing registration in 2022.
Interestingly enough, the BNF (British National Formulary), which is what medical professionals refer to with any questions or queries about medications, does not mention 100mcg as the maximum dose for transdermal patches. Instead, they give a starting dose and then say ‘adjust dose according to response’

I’ve been a patient of the Newson Clinic and cannot speak highly enough of the treatment I had, when my own GP said I couldn’t have HRT. As one of Louise’s patients, I received lengthy calls with my Dr who each time, then sent me very detailed reports of the conversation and treatment and each time, a copy was sent to my GP. I also received regular blood tests to monitor levels as I was one of the ‘poor absorbers’. Following the reports from Newson Health, the same GP who said I couldn’t have HRT completely changed her opinion of my suitability for HRT and indeed supported my decision, but I wonder if this would be the case had I not have gone to the Newson clinic. Louise has done more than any other person or persons collectively, to advance hormonal care for women and thousands of women are now empowered to ask their GP’s for appropriate treatment because of her. Thank you Liz for your factual and detailed appraisal of this damning documentary!

Why have Newson Health discussed the health records of the women who made complaints? That is confidential information and legally cannot be shared with another person without that patient's consent.

    • @Anna-if8tc
      @Anna-if8tc 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

What Liz says is that Newson Health said the patients referred to in the programme - some of whom were interviewed - were well-monitored and that their records would prove it. That is not the same as divulging their medical records. No specifics were mentioned and it was also clear from the programme that the women mentioned had already disclosed, of their own volition, that they were patients of Newson Health. So no breach of confidentiality there either.
The irony here is that doctor-patient confidentiality in this scenario means that the patient can speak freely but the doctors are limited in what they can say in the context of a TV programme. (Different where there is a formal professional/legal investigation where all info must be disclosed by all parties.)
So this 'trial' by Panorama was one-sided and vilified one person and her body of work. The BMS needs to wake up and catch up, rather wring its hands in horror. Women in this new generation (Gen X and Millennials) are seeking proper information and evidence so they can make decisions about their health and quality of life.

Thank you for being a vocal advocate for Dr. Louise. I recently finished listening to her book, and it is an incredibly comprehensive resource for women experiencing peri & post menopause. It is a must-read, and I highly recommend it to the BMS and the BBC. They may gain valuable insights and knowledge from it! During my 13 years of experience in general practice management, five patient complaints is really unremarkable. Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺 🙏

    Thanks for this video.
It’s interesting that you say GPs listen to the advice from Newson. I’m a patient of Newson and have been very happy with their care after subpar perimenopause treatment (well lack of it) at the GP. Being told by a male GP that I was depressed when I knew I wasn’t was not a surprise as so many perimenopausal women have the same experience…. A nurse at my clinic said go private and come back to us and we can prescribe. I followed her advice and feel so much better on high dose oestrogen HRT. Up until my last repeat HRT prescription my GP was happy to prescribe but it’s all changed some Panorama and they are no longer prescribing off-license high dose oestrogen after a change in practice protocol!
This is so short sighted. I feel that this is a huge step back in women’s health care.

Thank you for using your influence to make this video, Liz. So many of us were appalled at what we saw on that programme. It completely lacked perspective and the response given by Panorama to those of us who complained was wholly inadequate.
The points you make were almost identical to those I made to the BBC, but they are not interested in redressing the balance.
The work that Louise Newson and her colleagues are doing is invaluable. It is not about profiteering, but about resourcing women.

I will be eternally grateful for having had not one but two GPs who specialise in menopause (one replaced the other). I had a very challenging perimenopause, and I am a poor absorber of some forms of oestrogen, confirmed by blood tests. I struggled with patches and two types of gel, but a spray, Lenzetto, helped and increased my levels - thanks to persistent GPs. Both GPs recommended Dr Louise Newson's website, which I found indispensable at such a challenging time. I was someone who knew nothing about menopause until it hit, and I try not to recall my mid to later stages of perimenopause. My oestrogen levels had plummeted rapidly rather than gradually declining. Dr Newson and her website gave me the realisation that I wasn't alone and practical advice and information I could understand. I'm so sorry that this shocking and disgraceful thing has happened!

I watched the Panorama programme and was shocked at what was, in my opinion, a complete hatchet job on Louise Newson. I was also perplexed at the claim of oversubscribing as surely that is a GMC issue not something for a panorama documentary so thank you for explaining this. Many of my friends have had to access HRT privately because of inadequate NHS care, many through Newsom Health , and two, ironically, via Paula Briggs' private clinic. Thank you so much for sharing this Liz. The BBC should hang their heads in shame.

Brilliant well balanced video Liz. Not enough questions being asked about who makes the decisions about what’s broadcast on the BBC. 5/45000 and the damage could ripple out in so many ways affecting thousands of women through loss of faith in menopause medicine. When perhaps the faith that should be questioned is in the programmers behind the Panorama show.
