Dennis Weaver was a great actor. I loved him in Duel, speilbergs first movie.

Talk about a nightmare! Based on Charles Beaumont short story, Träumerei. I was a fan of Weaver since Gunsmoke. The perfect everyman in Duel. Later I liked him in McCloud. A fine actor!

The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits launched the imaginations and careers of dozens of writers, directors and actors. The Twilight Zone inspired many talented youngsters who grew up to make great movies and tv shows.

I also am a huge fan of The Obsolete Man.
The Obsolete Man, with the great Burgess Meredith, is just outstanding. It was ahead of its time, with a message that is just as relevant today as it was 60 years ago.

Utterly brilliant premise, the direction, Weaver's portrayal and performance was outstanding, and made it believable.

Loved the entire cast in this, one of my favorite episodes...Weaver, Harry Townes, Dean King...all were fantastic!
I always liked this episode because every time this guy went to sleep he'd have the same dream of being in a court room on trial.
Sooner into the episode he has to convince his lawyer that the whole thing was a dream, and he himself was a real person.
At 1:17-1:19, the actor is Mack Williams. He plays Fr Beamon, the prison chaplain in the first sequence. He is a spectator in the second sequence and he conveys a somewhat troubled sense of unease and doubt without knowing why.
The judge in the second sequence was the death row inmate 'Jiggs" in the first sequence. Other characters were different players in the two sequences.
I remember this one, from when I was a kid and watching the TZ every Friday night at 8:30, and see it now as a mirror to all our lives and what happens every morning when we wake up and go on about our day. ... It proves it's a lot harder than we think.
In a way, it's kind of similar to An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge, which would make a good pairing with this classic
Great episode. Very errie when Jigs becomes the judge, proving Adam was right.

---After WW2 we became enamored with new forms of idolatry: The American Dream, the pursuit of wealth, entertainment and looking for answers and meaning from said entertainment. The "intelligent television", as you called it, is foolishness disguised as wisdom, a means to make people question not just reality, but the reality of God. What is life about? Why are we here? What is good and evil? All these things are answered in the Word of God, but because we have turned our backs on Him, we seek to make our own answers. In essence, we turn to ourselves and man and make them "God", the source of meaning and truth. Hollywood was there to lead the charge.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
---The next generation gave us the sexual revolution, or Free Love movement. Hollywood was there to lead the charge.
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
---At the same time as the sexual revolution, we saw two more forms of idolatry crop up. Mother Earth worship was renamed "Environmentalism" and animal worship was rebranded as "Animal Rights Activism". People began to care for and serve the things God created instead of caring about and serving God. Hollywood was there to lead the charge.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
---Next came the homosexual revolution. Hollywood was there to lead the charge.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

And here we are today. Having Godly morals and standards is considered "immoral, intolerant, bigoted, hateful, homophobic, sexist" (insert demonizing buzzword used by Liberal media and academia).
Immorality is praised by those who practice the same things. Abortion/child murder=Women's rights and free choice. Homosexuality, transgenderism and other sexual deviancy is called "love, stunning, brave" and "being who you really are". Hollywood is still there to lead the charge.
It all went downhill with man thinking they could find wisdom apart from God, but the vast majority of people are too stubborn and foolish to see it.
When you willingly dismiss God you are given over to a reprobate mind and your wisdom becomes even further from the truth. The word reprobate means "worthless, counterfeit, unapproved, failing to pass the test"...Basically, good for nothing at all.
2 Peter 2:12-19
12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, *speak evil of the things that they understand not;* and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; *beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices;* cursed children:
15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
19 *While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.*
Hollywood and Liberals promise freedom to do as you want not knowing, or not caring, that they have been brought into bondage of sin and death.

Time loops have become a common & popular trope in modern Sci-Fi. Was this story the first to do it? (34 years before Groundhog Day)
I always interpreted this episode as judgement. That he was a bad man who must have committed terrible crimes. And his eternity is to be put to death over and over, endlessly, after a trial. So this video put a different spin on it for me to consider.

That's how I always interpreted it too.
I mean, Grant never disputes his guilt. He probably does believe (or wants to anyway ) that it's all a dream, but I think the alternative is much more chilling, he's already been tried, convicted and executed and his punishment is to relive all of it for eternity.

There is an implication of actual guilt in this show.Either Grant is really on death row or is guilty of murder and never caught.The recurring dream is his conscience about the crime.
Yeah, I gather he wasn't exactly a Andy Dufresne type of character. Grant never protests his innocence at any time.
I always believed that he was already dead at this point and was doomed to repeat his trial and execution forever.

What was that Charles Beaumont story, which you said means "a dreamlike state?" Sounds like you're saying "Tramerite" or something like that. I can't find any info on it.
