Hi ya! I'm in Virginia too. Crewe, out in the sticks. I am recently the single owner of a home. I feel your pain. So many little things to maintain a home, alwys something, and always watching out for the big things. It would be so great to have a very trustworthy handy man type to do things, like you said, caulking windows, leaky drain, etc. It is too easy to take advantage of women who do not already know how, or can no longer do, or have all the tools, how much it should cost, how long the job should really take... Good luck, and God speed.

Very nice work. I did notice something, from a "best practices" standpoint:
When installing the horizontal studs for the sheathing, you used the L-brackets, which is fine. But you surprised me when you installed the brackets with the "L" up, and hung the stud underneath it - meaning the only thing supporting the weight of the stud is the screw threads, the bracket itself isn't supporting the weight of anything. I assumed you did this because the hex heads on the structural screws prevented the stud from running flush to the post.
All you needed to do was flip the bracket on the same line on the post, so it mounts "L" side down, and then rest the stud on top. That way the bracket is actually holding the weight of the stud from underneath, the stud RESTING on it, instead of HANGING from it. In the grand scheme of things, you didn't really hurt anything by it once the sheathing is installed, it's not a large structure. But just from a structural integrity standpoint, the brackets really didn't serve a purpose except as a placeholder for the stud until the sheathing was installed, because that's where the structural stability for the studs ultimately came from.
Just something I noticed. But I love the work, I tend to agree with your work philosophy and practices on how to do things, WHEN to do them, and when there's a better way to accomplish the same thing as an old-school process with less pain and suffering. You do good work, sir, and you earned yourself a new subscriber. 👍

1:45:57 I find it easier to pre-drill the screw holes on the ground before hoisting the metal to the roof. This works better on a bigger job where u may be able to reach several screws without moving, but cant.really tell if u screw line is straight. And the less u move around on metal the less chance there is to crush a rib.

I don't have the height available to use 2x10 rim joists, so can I laminate two 2x8s around the perimeter and and one laminated 2x8 beam down the middle and then use 2x8s at 16"oc? Great build -- was a lot of fun to watch from start to finish. I have one comment/concern/question:
Structural screws are designed to hold their rated load perpendicular to the direction they're used (i.e., it's rated for shear strength, not it's ability to withstand tearing out from the member). When hanging the awning/door, my thought is that, because the screws in the hinges are parallels with the direction of the load, over time, the door opening and closing will weaken the connection and the screws will start to pull out (we're talking about decades here, I don't think it's just going to fall off overnight -- they should each have several hundred pounds of resistance to tearing out). How confident are you that these connections will last ~50 years, and is there any disadvantage to bolting through to avoid the concern altogether?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +3

just that bolts generally have too large a head to work inside a hinge. Cheers!

The construction design of the awning is structurally flawed and inept at best.

I definitely like your longer videos... I wonder if you could do something like this and use as "Air BnB" type thing? I mean I know you could but not sure how popular it be along the lines of a hostel.

I’d love to see a “short” video on how you screw in without drilling.

On the 2 boards that are laminated, you could have clamped them, as you screwed them, just a thought. Nice job.

If ya GOTTA back the bolt out, put the nut on it (just a couple turns so you hit the nut instead of the bolt) then tap ‘er out

One Suggestion. You will need to install a lift stick for the awning. Otherwise. Nice work and Merry Christmas :)

I know you didn’t have to do up to code with this build, but Im curious if the vertical wall frame for the t11 you did would be. I’ve never seen it done that way. Thanks 😊

You mention the wonderful features of the C2 coating but no links to it and I am not clear which product you are actually using. The can seems to match a C2 paint but you indicated you were using a stain. Can you help with what product it is?

To remove bolts put a nut on level with the end of the bolt and you can reuse the bolt

I haven't finished watching to completion yet but I have a question. I live in Texas and most people here do Oklahoma flag stone or cement for their sheds due to termites. In my opinion Oklahoma flagstone is way to fancy to put a shed on and cement is messy and in my opinion a lot of work for me personally to DIY. I like your method of a floating deck for a shed but is there a way to guarantee I won't get a termite infestation down the road?
    Thanks from Texas 🇨🇱
