Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your tutorials. I have just started making handbags (I'm a quilter normally) and am finding them very exciting! You make it so easy and I'm sure I'll be back again and again. Once again - thank you very much.
I know this is much later than your post, but I just made one of these pockets for a pre-made purse that I'm modifying to suit my needs/wants. Your tutorial worked perfectly. Thank you SO MUCH for the excellent tutorial. It was clear and concise, and very much appreciated!!!
Appreciate your tutorial. Appreciate that you do not feel you have to talk every second, it actually helps to have thought process engaged after each instruction as we are watching you
Thank you for this very clear instruction on the card slots. I have not done one for any of my bag yet, I do add extra pockets but now I can add the card slots. thank you.
Second time I've made a batch of these wristlets using you card slot hack! I'm a subscriber now, so I can follow you and learn more! Thank you so much! You were very informative and clear instructions were given!!!
I just looked at the video and i'm so excited to sew the clematis wristlet, you directions are so easy to follow. Will be posting the finished product. We don't have fusible fleece available in the country where I live so i'll be using medium weight fusible pellon.
I use Dollar Tree cutting mats also they are so nice you can just lay them over your pattern and trace around design with a sharpie and even write on the with a sharpie then cut out with scissors, Best find ever
This is FABULOUS tutorial by the way. I'm a huge fan of your videos! I'm going to add a credit card holder to the clematis and also the swoon dollie mini. 💕
Thank U Debby, for this awesome way of stitching this type of Card Slot. I tried it, & it came out quite nice, I mean , with the help of the measurement u hv shown. Thank U once again. Bye !.
Ooooh Perfect❣️ and I really like your tutorials as-well💝🌹 I’m not to good with large pocket books, but these little bags with the little pockets are wonderful for me and they keep my hands free to attend to my 😍✨❣️ Might I add I love your tutorials 🌹💝❣️
For my pattern templates I get kitchen cutting mats from the Dollar store. They are stiff, see thru and can be cut with scissors. And really inexpensive.
I do the same thing, Dollar Tree cuttings mats are great and you can double them using double stick tape if you need to. I like to fussy cut and these work great for that.
It adds just a little more bulk to the sides than I would like... I did it in a couple that I made for a friend and although I was able to press it fairly flat, I didn't love letting them go like that... Nobody else would ever know, but I do... 😂. A very sheer interfacing might work, but I was quite happy with the firmness without, as long as I top stitched the top edge of each slot...
Thank you. Is this just for industrial machines? And where can I get it if it can be used on a home machine (I have a new Bernina 770QE which does go through several layers but it is not considered industrial)?
To the best of my knowledge, this thread is meant for Industrial machines. You would have to check with your dealer to see what weight of thread you can use in your domestic.
Hi, Debby, I hope you won't me commenting on this but if you are talking about the thickness of the plastic I am thinking would be 3 millimetres (3mm) which is approx 1/8 inch. Also, could you tell me if your hardware is gunmetal? I am hoping to find some here in Australia.
Debby just curious, what brand/model sewing machine do you have or recommend for sewing leather/vinyl/thick layers and for use with heavier upholstery threads? Also do you use heavier threads in the upper and bobbins or just in the upper thread with bobbin thread being regular/all purpose? Sorry for all the questions but I am really struggling with these problems when making bags. Thanks!
My industrial walking foot machine is what I use for heavy layers... It's a Titan 650BL, built by my local store. I use Tex 90 thread for my top stitching. I use Tex 30 in the bobbin if it won't be seen, Tex 90 top and bottom if it will. I can fit a lot more thread on a bobbin if I use a finer thread, that's why I do that. My machine is too heavy duty to use anything lighter weight than Tex30, so regular thread is out of the question. I struggled with what I wanted to do not being what I was able to do, so that's why I bought my industrial. It's life changing. Now I can be fearless!
Debby Hunker I have learned so much from you. Thank you for all the time you have given, I'm sure you have helped a great many people. One of the things you taught me that's been invaluable is to test the tension by sampling the fabric before launching into your project. I've always skipped that part out of laziness, and ruined a great many things! Keep teaching, and thanks!
If you could find out the gauge of the vinyl, that would be most helpful! I'm finding tons of it on Amazon, Fabric.com, Joann's and other places but they're all listed in gauges ranging from 8 to 60.
What's the gauge on it though. Clear marine or automotive vinyl (same as used for tarps) should work just fine. Thank you SO much for your vids, and all of the hard work you've put into them!
There's a bit of a debate about the pronunciation of Clematis... This seems to be the correct pronunciation... www.macmillandictionary.com/external/images/MEDOpronunciationicon.svg?version=2017-05-15-1545
This plastic is much thicker than what you can get at a regular fabric store, unless they carry tarp supplies... This is a link to purchase it isn't the US. m.tarpsupply.com/ystore/yhst-130642906628150/30-mil-fire-retardant-clear-pvc-vinyl--fabric-roll-1-yard.html
Love your tutorials. Sailrite has the plastic. They use it in boat covering. They also have a foam cording that I hear makes great piping in vinyl and leather products.www.sailrite.com/

@@1954evelyn I do that as well, they are great even at the full size for a tote template, lol.
You can also use the plastic place mats found at dollar tree for making patterns. They work great.
Thank you so much for this video. I have made several Clematis and can now add the card slots!
I just followed along and made mine.....It is Awesome! Cards fit perfectly. Thank You.
Best demonstration I have seen for card pockets. Thank you!-!
Joann fabrics has the plastic. Reasonbly priced if you use a coupon. It's marine vinyl
Great tutorial, what a fabulous easy way of making card slots. Thank you so much for giving the card template idea, I’d have never thought of that. x👏
This is FABULOUS tutorial by the way. I'm a huge fan of your videos! I'm going to add a credit card holder to the clematis and also the swoon dollie mini. 💕

You make card slots seem easily possible. I can’t wait to try. Thanks a bunch!!

Great addition Debby, thank you so much!
SO great. Easy to follow. Love you and your methods.
I enjoyed your tutorial very much. You are very clear , and easy to follow. Very happy to have found your video. Thank you.
What a great idea!!! Wonderful teaching and I so thank you very much!
Thank you for all the nice bags 😊I wanted to know is, what kind of iron are you using? It seems to be doing a good job 😊
Love your simplified method. THANK YOU!!!
Love this way of doing card slots!!!
Hi Debby! Would it be too thick if I were to interface with a light fusible on the the card slot fabric? Love your videos by the way!
Would using stabilizer on back of card slot be too heavy? Terrific hack.

Debby Hunker that’s right perfect💖✨🌹❣️😊

ThNk you! What seam allowance do you use for the card pockets
I really love this method and I learned something new awesome sause!
Love your videos. They are very easy to follow thank you so much
Thank you for taking the time to comment! I'm so glad you find them helpful!
Debby, Your Clematis is so beautiful! How do you get your bag so stiff and smooth looking. Do you use a certain interfacing 809F or something else.
I use fusible fleece to interface the outside.
What thread weight are you using for top stitching? Thank you for the videos!
Edited to add: Easy way to create these card slots.
I'm using Tex 90 thread

The plastic I use is .75mm thick. And yes, I do have gunmetal hardware. This tutorial was done using gunmetal hardware from Emmaline Bags.
This is what I have been looking for , thanks
great video. going to add that to purses, bags

Did you use a 3/8" or 1/4" seam allowance?
Love the octopus 🐙 bag
Thank you for this great tutorial...
Excellent! Cla - matt - tis
What size stitch do you use for the top stitching please?
I like to topstitch at 3-3.5

Please can anybody tell me how to do the weaving on the clematis clutch? would appreciate it so much. Thank you
Heavy acetate will do the same job for those that cant find the plastic
Great idea.
What do you use to cut the templates??
This plastic can be cut with scissors or a rotary cutter for the straight parts...
Thank you Debby
what was the seam allowance?
3/8"

I wish I could answer that for you... I don't know the answer though... All I know is it's 30mil. 30mil is the thickness measurement
Brilliant! Thanks!
Thank you Lucy-Ann!
Starting my Clematis now. BTW, it's pronounced clem -AT-us, like the flower. Thanks for the tutorial!
