- Last day in Alaska. Got the chance of a lifetime to target some of the most massive fish on the West Coast. Had a 40 Caliber Glock on board in case we came across a "barndoor" Halibut. If these massive fish flop around on deck they can easily break a leg or cause a serious injury. The goal was to incapacitate the fish so it would flop around with 5 people on board. Their slime makes everything slippery and very dangerous if flopping around on board especially out at sea. What an amazing trip. Will try to visit again next season!

I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

@@shubhammeena1346 Well, I can’t say it was completely justified or really even get into the logistics of the whole thing due to my lack of experience and general knowledge on fishing.
That being said, they shot it for their safety because if they bring it on board, a fish that massive could cause serious injury as it flops around within the enclosed space of the boat. Like, it could even break someone’s leg. So the logic here was simply that it’s better to kill it instantly rather than prolong its suffering and risk it injuring someone. But again, this is coming from someone who doesn’t know too much about fishing so...

as a fisherman, shooting it was 100 percent the right thing to do, imagine that fish jumpin around in the boat, would’ve broken some bones, part of the boat, knocked in the rods, along with plenty of gear, that is a ton of money, down the drain, and the fish would’ve probably escaped anyways, all that gear lost, just for the fish to escape, that’s about 100 pounds of fish, gone, just like that.
These Einsteins are out there with no life jackets as well. Get whacked with a fish that big and go unconscious, and fall overboard...it's over especially if the other fishermem are injured or wresting the darn thing too. Absolutely warranted but for the love of Pete, get some life jackets. The technology has come a long way since the huge square orange atrocities. They are so comfortable now, no reason to not have them.
Then as a fisherman you would know halibut are probably the weakest and least fighting fish there is so I’ll tell you that halibut would t of moved

When we went to Alaska we rode a bus out to the dock area and rode back on the bus after fishing. One 16 year old boy on the bus caught a 75 pound halibut and got to ship home multiple bags of filets. My daughter caught a salmon that was 32 inches long. She thought she was going to die fighting that salmon but she landed it and we had it mounted as a keepsake. Those fish are the best eating you can ever eat.

My Mom lived in Ketchikan the last part of her life before she died on Jan 9th 2000. She was a very young 55 years old. I never knew the exact reason why she ended up there until much later after her death from my Brother and that was because as a young girl, she might have been 18 or 19 so when she visited Ketchikan and fell in love with the location and maybe even with some guy, a combination of the two perhaps. I may never know the real reason why. One thing is for sure and that is my Mom loved living in Ketchikan. My Mom also deeply loved the ocean and loved fishing even more. There are photos of my Mom in a wet suit as a young beautiful woman it the mid 1960's when she went diving for abalone. When I was 15 until around the age of 17 before moving out of the house, we moved from Dallas to Topeka Kansas. There we spent many later nights and early morning fishing for Catfish at the heated dock at Lake Shawnee in Topeka, Kansas. I have a few memories that are bother sad and heart warming at the same time. Thank you for the video and especially when you mentioned this was Ketchikan AK. She would have loved this video. If anyone reading this remembers a Frona Gene Watkins from Ketchikan from about 1991 to 2000, that was my Mother.
