If you're gonna turbocharge a Harley, ya need to turn the engine 90 degrees, like a Guzzi. That way when the P.O.S. blows the jugs off, there won't be anything in the way.
Back in the day Harley Davidson ran advertisements depicting some motorcycle gangs and asking, "Would you sell these guys an unreliable motorcycle?" My response, "Why not? You did."
The dyno showed the double torque figure because the RPM was reading half of actual RPM. If you look at the RPM across the bottom of the first set of graphs, you can see it only went to 3000rpm or so. 1/2 the RPM = double the torque. Probably a RPM filter setting that needed to be adjusted.

With the turbo on a any v twin they sou d very simular with the spool up and the exhaust chopping to the turbo sounds simular to my 945 cc turbo rzr not identical but very close ive got a 2020 ROAD KING SPECIAL stage 2 s&s 475 everything s&s I'm to lazy to put it all everything s&s stage 2 kit I was looking into doing a turbo and thought damn that sounds like my RZR LMFAO go listen to a straight piped rzr or one with aftermarket exhaust they sound very simular 😀
Cool turbo explanation but as certified internet expert I have something really important to say. The noise you made at 8:41 was more of a blow-off sound which is usually located on the intake side before the intake but after the cold side turbo compressor. The wastegate is on the hot side and only opens at full boost creating a screaming sound and maybe even flames. Both parts are essentially are doing the same thing. They both limit the boost by releasing it so you dont make 250+ HP and blow the rods out the bottom end.
Great videos. Ive had a Harley of some sort since I was 17 along with about 10 other bikes of different origins. I gut sucked into drag racing motorcycles and my quickest 1/4 mile is 8.16 @ 163 MPH using nitrous on a 1325cc Suzuki GS. The hat on your turbo system that connects to the throttle body is a swirl pot and intakes hate that. I would love to see the next upgrade be a small intercooler with a good elbow bending into the throttle body to cool and smooth out the intake flow. I bet it would pick up some good numbers.

From when Fast Bikes was putting turbos on ZX7s in the 90's. Guy gave it a big hand full of throttle. Tach went to redline and he he was not moving. He figured he fried the clutch and let off. What happened was he was spinning the rear tire and as soon as he let off it slowed down enough it hooked up and sent him down the road with a huge wheelie. Good luck on the track, wear your gear, its harder than it looks

*I spent about $2900 on a turbo kit and another $780 on various performance parts (jets, air filter, exhaust). After all said and done I now get 93hp on the dyno chart from my 2019 harley 1200cc. Big improvement.*
Waste gates open to release exhaust before it hits the hot side of the turbo compressor to maintain a certain boost level. Blow Off valves make that”hissss” sound when you let off the throttle. They release the cold side pressure when the throttle butterfly valance slams shut.
wastegates dump excess exhaust gas to regulate boost psi. its doesnt make the pshhh sound..the psshhh sound comes from the blow off valve that would be located on the pressure side. that "blows off" when you release the throttle to keep the turbo from back spinning due to the closed throttle butterfly.

8:40 - waste gate controls boost, blow off valve goes PSHHHH. Let’s say you have a 12 lbs waste gate spring, once 12 lbs is exceeded the waste gate opens up allowing exhaust to escape so you don’t overboost. Love your work! I never would have thought I would see a turbo Harley, so sick

10:14 No Stage 0 is the first thing you do on any build. That includes tune-up, full regular maintenance (belts/chains, guides, oil pump, i.e. any ware parts that might come up), and checking the overall health of the engine (if its not a brand new engine) . That's your first stage.
I had a 2010 Vrod Muscle with a turbo kit on it that made 250 hp. It was a blast when it wasn't completely trying to kill you from doing burn outs in 5th gear. It was also fun to destroy harley guys that hated the vrod saying "That's not a Harley" when you leave them at the light going 0-60 in under 3 sec 🤣
Turbo day turned in to neck your self day, 350 down to 160. You would have to be sorting out the wiring and cable hook up situation when your being shown more than double the torque than what the bike really put out, but I must say it sounded amazing, and the final 217 ft pound is going to pull your arms off anyway but I was jumping up and down at the 350 figure and wanting to build everything to the exact specifications for my road king, unlucky, disappointing butstill at 217 will pull a house over, good work and great vid. You just got a new very keen subscriber, thank you for your time and effort to share your build experience with everyone, cheers.
This brought tears to my eyes because....I turbo'ed, in the early 1980's. Twice. I had a '82 and '83 YAMAHA Seca 650 Turbo; both had 12# of boost, and you'd watch the boost meter on board, and when it crept up to the red line, HOLD ON for your life. It's a ROCKET. It was a super fun pair of bikes, shaft drive, and had a really good fairing design. I'd buy the same bike today if I could. ps: If you want power/ponies, forget ANY "Hardly" (no typo).....Buy an INDIAN!!!!

OMG, Sean this is your best video yet. I'm still laughing after watching. That Road King is the hands down the baddest bike on the road. Then again, what would expect from Craig and Brandon working with a wrench. Those two motorcycle gurus are simply the BEST. I wasn't sure in the beginning of the project if 200HP was realistically possible to achieve. Man you guys proved what seemed impossible possible. Congratulations on building a Road King Monster. Over 200HP and over 200 FT LBS of Torque. What a wonderful job and accomplishment. I'm truly blown away. I can't wait for the next video, when you actually ride this BEAST. Looks like allot of fun . I love turbo charging everything. I've put turbos on allot of stuff . I'm a machinist by trade. My advise to you is gap your rings for forced induction . If not your rings will but together eventually.
The Buell XB12 with its Sportster 1200 engine, seen in the thumbnail pic of my bike, originally was planned and designed to have a turbo. There is even a leftover passthrough on the fuel tank/aluminum frame, that was welded over and repurposed for additional fuel instead. You can see this small oval plate welded over the left side of the Buell XB frame, once you take off the plastic airbox cover. Anyway, as the story goes Eric Buell orginally used a Garrett turbo, but Harley Davidson insisted that they make the turbo inhouse. Which was then scapped for the same reason most manufacturers use aftermarket turbos, made by turbo only manufacturing companies, and the more obvious reliability longevity reasons that is far too sensible for this video.
Torque is how fast you can get up to a high speed. Horsepower is how high of a speed you can get to. Torque is 0 to 60 in 5 seconds, more torque is 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds. A few horsepower and you can go 10mph, more horsepower and you can go 80mph, even more horsepower and now you can go 180 mph. (More torque takes less time more horse reach higher speeds)
The system measures drum acceleration vs engine RPM for torque measurement. No tach lead, no TQ readings, only HP. What you experienced has to do with what the Dyno is expecting- If you tell the dyno the plugs fire every 360° vs (actual) 720°? Double TQ. When reversed, you get 1/2 TQ. When set accurately, you get accurate readings.
better way to explain a turbo : An air pump that runs off the exhaust gases. Exhaust gases push an exhaust turbine which is connected to a intake turbine which in turn sucks more air in creating higher air pressure in the intake manifold. The more exhaust pressure the higher the turbine speed , the faster air gets pressurised into the intake manifold. Generally, more air equals more power providing your air fuel ratios remain optimal….which may mean upgrading to larger injectors if the standard ones can’t maintain optimal afr.
One of the guys at Fuel Moto has a 107 Dyna with over 200hp, they regularly bring it to larger rallies. Trask turbo too, of course. Really funny to watch guys with 143 baggers get shown up on a dyno by a 107 Dyna.

incredible how none of these guys know how an actual turbo system work and they still managed to properly install this kit. speaks a lot about the quality of the kit.
U need to do the bottom end (dark horse or SS crank.. forged rods ) and tranny (baker grudge box) for that power .. or that 131 not gonna last for long. Ppl doing these mods for much less power
the wastegate doesnt make the 'psst' noise... thats the blow off valve that releases unused boost after you let off the throttle. the waste gate regulates the flow of exhaust passing over the turbine so it doing over rpm the turbo resulting in too much boost

Torque is "how much ya bench", horsepower is " how fast ya bench".
And turbo boost is how hard you can party!
Horsepower is power over a duration of time, nothing to do with how fast it’s working

The blow off valve makes the turbo "whistle" noise when the boost is released, not the wastegate.

There is a way to avoid having to shell out for 'Stage' kits......buy a bike from a manufacture that puts decent amount of power stock....

Stage 4 is about Stock M109 with a tune numbers. Add a bottle and tune 200ish hp for less than your turbo kit.

They say e85 can give you a 15% gain wow!
Could just buy a Kawasaki H2 and do a few mods and it will make 300 wheel hp and be a reliable daily rider that weighs 250 lbs less.

Those connecting rods are gonna connect with someone's leg and right out the other side when it gives up.
The bigend goes bust first with these HP numbers... I rode a Panhead before this guy was even born. Life moves pretty fast.
The disappointment at 17:18 though... my man is heartbroken.

Can’t really do that my friend, I don’t do smart phones…remember I have a 92 FXR, not the most modern machine! Oh and after you upgrade the clutch on your hot rod Harley your probably gonna have to consider going to a chain drive…that belt probably ain’t gonna last either…and the snowball continues
I've got a video of a turbo 114 here in vegas doing 210hp on the dyno. Thrashin' also makes an adjustable foot brake pedal for toruing models.
OMG, Sean this is your best video yet. I'm still laughing after watching. That Road King is the hands down the baddest bike on the road. Then again, what would expect from Craig and Brandon working with a wrench. Those two motorcycle gurus are simply the BEST. I wasn't sure in the beginning of the project if 200HP was realistically possible to achieve. Man you guys proved what seemed impossible possible. Congratulations on building a Road King Monster. Over 200HP and over 200 FT LBS of Torque. What a wonderful job and accomplishment. I'm truly blown away. I can't wait for the next video, when you actually ride this BEAST. Please be careful and wear all protective gear you have. This bike is scary and clearly very dangerous. Go slow to start with and then let the dragon loose. Looks like allot of fun . I love turbo charging everything. I've put turbos on allot of stuff . I'm a machinist by trade. My advise to you is gap your rings for forced induction . If not your rings will but together eventually.

The Buell XB12 with its Sportster 1200 engine, seen in the thumbnail pic of my bike, originally was planned and designed to have a turbo. There is even a leftover passthrough on the fuel tank/aluminum frame, that was welded over and repurposed for additional fuel instead. You can see this small oval plate welded over the left side of the Buell XB frame, once you take off the plastic airbox cover.
Anyway, as the story goes Eric Buell orginally used a Garrett turbo, but Harley Davidson insisted that they make the turbo inhouse. Which was then scapped for the same reason most manufacturers use aftermarket turbos, made by turbo only manufacturing companies, and the more obvious reliability longevity reasons that is far too sensible for this video.
Torque gets you there, horsepower keeps you there 😎

Torque is how fast you can get up to a high speed.
Horsepower is how high of a speed you can get to.
Torque is 0 to 60 in 5 seconds, more torque is 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds.
A few horsepower and you can go 10mph, more horsepower and you can go 80mph, even more horsepower and now you can go 180 mph.
(More torque takes less time more horse reach higher speeds)
The system measures drum acceleration vs engine RPM for torque measurement. No tach lead, no TQ readings, only HP. What you experienced has to do with what the Dyno is expecting- If you tell the dyno the plugs fire every 360° vs (actual) 720°? Double TQ. When reversed, you get 1/2 TQ. When set accurately, you get accurate readings.
In simple human terms: Horsepower is quickness. Torque is strength.
Chasing HP and Torque numbers can be highly addictive. Keep Prayed Up and Remain Humble Brother. As Always, May God Bless you and yours!

better way to explain a turbo :
An air pump that runs off the exhaust gases.
Exhaust gases push an exhaust turbine which is connected to a intake turbine which in turn sucks more air in creating higher air pressure in the intake manifold. The more exhaust pressure the higher the turbine speed , the faster air gets pressurised into the intake manifold. Generally, more air equals more power providing your air fuel ratios remain optimal….which may mean upgrading to larger injectors if the standard ones can’t maintain optimal afr.

One of the guys at Fuel Moto has a 107 Dyna with over 200hp, they regularly bring it to larger rallies. Trask turbo too, of course. Really funny to watch guys with 143 baggers get shown up on a dyno by a 107 Dyna.

U need to do the bottom end (dark horse or SS crank.. forged rods ) and tranny (baker grudge box) for that power .. or that 131 not gonna last for long. Ppl doing these mods for much less power
Tts performance in the UK is making supercharger kits for harleys hitting 200 - 400 hp depending on model and setup.
the wastegate doesnt make the 'psst' noise... thats the blow off valve that releases unused boost after you let off the throttle. the waste gate regulates the flow of exhaust passing over the turbine so it doing over rpm the turbo resulting in too much boost
As I've always loved to say.. Power is how fast you're going when you hit the wall and Torque is how far you take the wall with you when you hit it
