Hopefully even though she has a career of many many years, many registeries, refitted, refurbished, she perhaps will be known as MS Stockholm. The question is will she still be continuing on, understood that she is docked in the Netherlands, either awaiting new ownership; or her demise to be scrapped. That would be a terrible shame if that happens. Perhaps saving her, museum, or a floating hotel ie: Queen Mary @ long beach California, USA.
I still don’t understand how these ships collided when they both had radar.
The third officer on watch (Carstens) on the Stockholm was not well versed on radar, learning on the job with this voyage, as incredulous as that seems. Plus, in all likelihood the radar was erroneously set to an incorrect radius setting of 15 miles instead of 5.
Now do the SS George Costanza
Holy! Was the hole really that big?
The Stockholm, though not an ice breaker, had a reinforced bow to deal with the north sea. She was very strong.
@@ExAnimoPortugal Oh ok,thx
Yep, you can see it in some of the photos of the sinking
@@ExAnimoPortugal the Stockholm had a reinforced bow; she mainly traveled in the north sea; through the fyords; of her home country of Sweden and surrounding countries. Even though she did do the transatlantic route to the states for a time.
All because someone wasn't looking where they were going.....
It was sad what happened to that ship. I'm just glad the majority of souls aboard were safe.😮
@Christian_girl120 sure that the outcome perhaps could have ended differently; if the ships nearby did not answer the SOS' s from both ships. Even though the Stockholm was damaged; she lost five crewmembers that were berthed in the bow. Its a blessing that her bulkhead held even though she did have a list; it was corrected. She did send lifeboats to assist the doria. She was able to return to New York under her own power. Well done Swedish shipbuilders of Gothenburg; you indeed designed a beauty !! The last few years she is laid up in Rotterdam. Can anyone think of another vessel that has endured many years of service. Hopefully she will be saved; not ending up in the scrape heap.
Good animation, but has a mistake, if the ship lost part of his structure, he will sank in minutes, not hours
History tells us two known facts. Stockholm rammed Andrea Doria a full forty feet into its superstructure and that the latter took 10.5 hours to sink.
Impresionante 😧
this ship is italian!! Genova's italian line. one of the first italian ocean liner!!!
Did you know that the most luxurious ship was the Andrea duria? No ship has ever been more luxurious than another ship?
Captain Calamai was vindicated by a (US) Naval Academy, Annapolis reconstruction of events just weeks before his death. He was sent a warm letter from the head of the board, John C. Caruthers who was a renowned expert in maritime collisions, but died before receiving it.
OMG...why did they let all those lifeboats go away completely empty???
andrea doria sinking ship video♊
They should make smaller compartments so you can seal the damaged areas. It didn't have to go down.
1,663 out of just over 1,700 passengers and crew were resuced
Look how much damage MS Stockholm had.
Yes her bow crumpled in about 50 feet
@@tinypoolmodelshipyard indeed; gratefully her bulkheads held. Guess you could say the Swedes were indeed ahead of there craft to design a beautiful ship that still is afloat; not scrapped. Hopefully she will maintain; hopefully a museum; or hotel. Sweden, be so very proud !!!!
Well made, - not bad at all !
Who saw the easter eggs (the other ships) in the video?
it colluded with the ??? ship i forget or something
Great!!! How ever, hadnt they seen each other and started blasting their whistles before the collision? That could be cool
I remember when this happened. I mean the Doria was essentially "T" boned how in the hell could that have happened? I guess radar wasn't working on EITHER boat.
They were, but the third officer on watch, Carstens on Stockholm was multitasking that evening and radar was not his strong point-in fact he was self teaching on that voyage. Plus, he erroneously set the radar sensitivity to 15 nautical miles instead of 5.
No horns to alert each other before the collission?
could you make Moby Prince disaster ?
What happened to Stockholm?
Somewhere in the comments this was mentioned. It was only decommissioned a few years ago. Amazing.
She is currently (as of May 2024) moored in the Rotterdam harbour. Her new name is Astoria.
It went down like an old man getting into a bathtub.
🤣
How did the Stockholm lost a chunk????
It took 10 hours. It eased into the water like an old man into a nice warm bath - no offense. I tell ya, I hear people really stuff themselves on those cruise ships. The buffet, that's the real ordeal. Well, all vacations have to end eventually.
The saddest part is the 3 ladies left in their rooms when the crew said to one of their husbands they would rescue them only to rescue a kid trapped between a fallen bunks they forgot about the three women trapped in the room and they drowned there
whatta ship is that why is it ignoring the andrea
Stockholm: I'm a monster! What have I done?
u made this?
4:02 I thought the port side lifeboats were going to snap free and float away upside down.
Indeed!
You can explant your software for modeling and animattion?
What do you mean?
His talent. That's all...
Underrated
Why this ship collide to another ship?
Thick fog and a lack of knowledge about how radar works
I read that salvage diving on the AD is extremely dangerous due to its depth.
200 feet and its in a high used shipping lane
The shallow depth of 240 feet equates to rapid disintegration owing to warmer and more active water currents.
After all this years gone by; she has collapsed on oneself, there is not very much left of this beauty; pride of Italy !!
Sorry for asking you this but can I Make a sleeping sun video about it if you dont want to i totally understand
I cant use copyrighted content on my channel
@@caljucotcas I'm posting it on my channel and plus it doesn't get copyrighted and in the videos if I post it I can give you credit and it helps your videos get viewers
So can I make it I'm asking you so you dont get mad when you see it @@caljucotcas
2:45 the Stockholm is still floating even though it’s bow is shattered
History records that it made it all the way back to port in this condition.
@@historybuff66 yes she indeed did just that; her bulkheads held; she did have list of 1 or 2° but was corrected. She may have lost 30+ or more of her bow. She was repaired at Bethlehem steel.
This issue was $.20 bulb for the Stockholm's radar that should have been replaced.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
LERRRRRROOY JENKIIIIIIIIINS
Das Schiff heißt nicht Andrea Doria...Sondern Andreas Doria
Named for Admiral Andrea Doria.
What about Stockholm sinking
It didnt sink
