I just signed up for the account and uploaded my demo. But to apply for any job the website is making me purchase the membership. Do I have to purchase the membership for any job or any audition ?
Good morning, you do yes. The “free” profile allows client to find you and privately invite you to audition but to actively audition for the cattle calls then you need a membership.
@@CrownStagVoiceover if i get privately messaged and they want to audition me then can i apply for the job or i have to sign up for membership for that as well?
I don’t really audition for North American auditions. I wouldn’t recommend using auto tune or noise reduction because they will effect the natural sound of your voice. The client wants to hear you not the processing
Ahh, that explains a few things, thank you! My free membership was showing 250+ hiring projects, but as soon as I paid for the $500 level membership that number went down to ~40 jobs and I couldn't figure out what happened, or why I was getting next to no job results in my selected areas of animation/video games. I wish the algorithm was better, it keeps showing me offers for jobs that want specific accents that don't match my profile at all (Mid-Western American here being offered jobs that want a Singapore accent!), then the site gives me a really low score for the exact kind of projects that I'm looking for. For the price of admission, the site is extremely frustrating.
Thank you for making this video! It's pretty disappointing to learn that they also take a 20% cut of every project and are not transparent about that in any of their promo materials on the website. The annual membership fees seem justifiable enough (though not cheap), but not notifying people before signing up about the 20% feels very shady. It's too bad they don't charge for one or the other. Free membership but we'll take 20%, or an annual fee and you get the full rate.
I can understand if I wasn't hired because my audition didn't make the grade, but most of my auditions aren't even listened to. They claim that if your audition didn't get listened to one of the reasons might be because a client might reach a decision before they listen to all the auditions, but they also say there is no need to audition early because the client doesn't see the auditions in the order they are received. If this were the case, more of my later auditions would have been listened to. I suspect they want to keep the clients happy and not so much the talent. At the same time, they don't mind receiving that extra $500 from more talent than will get hired.
Any pay to play site has its risk and rewards. You really need to think if you have that money available that you “don’t mind Losing” if you don’t get booked
Great content love your incaragement .I have a question 1 is there an ideation fee Ibat the moment have a problem with my PayPal does voice s have alternative to PayPal?
*It is also worth mentioning that 40% of all "jobs" on voices never end up hiring anyone on the site. That's right -- 40% !!!* *This is due in part to the fact that the same "job" is often posted on other sites as well, and someone on the other site may get hired instead.* *So, if you do 10 auditions per day - keep in mind that 4 of them will not hire ANYONE !!!* *As far as them charging 20% on top of the annual fee, they claim that the 20% fee is essentially a financial handling fee for keeping your money safe, so that you don't get ripped off.*
@@CrownStagVoiceover *I've been on voices since 2017. Back then you could see in your auditions cue how many hired and how many canceled or just let the job sit there with no one being hired for months on end. They have since hidden this feature. Now, the job is automatically marked "Completed" as soon as the posted "Project Deadline" date has expired - regardless of if anyone was actually hired or not.* *To answer your question, I arrived at the 40% number based on my own auditions cue prior to them hiding the stats. Secondly, I did confirm this number with the CEO (David) during a live Q&A session. And he gave the same excuse, that many of the jobs are posted on multiple sites, which brings down the hiring success rate.*
It sounds easy but no no no!!! I went through the hassle and built my own studio which cost me over $400 and I paid the membership for voices which cost me $200 at the time. I was so excited at first, I thought it was going to rain a lot of money, but I was very wrong. After almost a year of submitting over 500 auditions, I only got $250 which means I got my money back plus a little extra money ($50). Now my membership is going to end soon and there's no way in hell I'm going to renew. My point is don't waste your money. It's hard to make money on that damn platform.
Thanks so much for this video. I’ve been thinking about the membership, because there’s no way to know if your income with the paid modality will allow you to invest such an amount plus the 20 percent! … Tricky! 🤭
For using the platform? most people have samples commercial or otherwise that a client can listen to on their profile but as far as audition go 99% want you to read what ever they have.
I'm clueless, too. As an American, I thought nation and country were interchangeable. The US is a country made up of states and our pledge of allegiance says we are one "nation"... So the whole several countries, one nation confused me as well. But then again, I guess you don't have "states" over there either. Hmmm...
No we have countries and counties. Each country is independent but works as a whole politically but has their own governments and rules (like states) each county has its own governing bodies along with regional accents and dialects (depending on country) accents can change in a ten mile radius
Personally I’d look at upwork, Mandy, voice fairy, voice crafters, Voquent and Fiverr and only IF. you have disposable income look at the pay to play sites like voices and voice123
Voices isn’t a bad site but it has an insane amount of competition. Depending on your aim and budget I’d say give it a go or Voquent or perhaps even Mandy or upwork. One website is not going to be your silver bullet
Is that your own tiktok or are people hiring you? I’d say start out on the free or cheaper platforms and then move onto voice and the other pay to play when your budget allows
I feel so mixed about this site. I made like a thousand dollars really easily when I signed up with a handful of jobs. Now I feel like I pump out all these auditions and Ive had nothing for a long time...
I know it’s been a month since you commented but, any luck landing more jobs? I got the $99 for a year deal which I felt was really good. And I’m nearly there with my space to be able to audition reliably

British, yes, Britain, no. It's also Irish. Many Britons get this wrong, the inhabitants can't even agree on these either, so no surprise the Americans are completely clueless.

It can be. Makes sure you don’t have English other checked as that may be the source of your other accent requests

There may be some truth to that. they make there money from memberships more than the fee per job.
Very true. I paid thru my nose for the membership but all in vain..it was too late before I deciphered the game
I’m thinking about starting voices soon so this was really helpful. I’m unsure tho.

Is a commercial demo a must? Or would auditioning without uploading a demo not really hinder me?
For using the platform? most people have samples commercial or otherwise that a client can listen to on their profile but as far as audition go 99% want you to read what ever they have.
Do they have a payment plan? For $500 it takes me two and a half months of my full salary to buy this membership
I don’t think so. I think they just have levels of access based on how much you want to pay.

It depends on your budget, experience and accent really.
@@CrownStagVoiceover so overall, which are the better options?
You can't just pay the 2 grand or whatever it is, you have to have made a certain amount of money on the platform.
I've never seen the number of auditions required, only the number of auditions submitted.
Its a feature I have seen on mine but having just checked again its gone - perhaps they removed it.

You're not allowed access to all auditions to narrow down the list for the client.
Correct, unless you are on their top tier of membership you will never have access to all auditions
So it means.... If u will not paid the membership fee... U won't get hired?
Not NEVER but not likely
There are thousands of voice jobs a month. Do you really think they will allow thousands of people to apply to each job?

Is this really worth it ?
It’s a gamble to be honest. It is a site that the more to pay the better opportunities you get but that’s because they hide it behind pay walls.
So it costs money to be able to get money?
Do you mean because its a pay-to -play website?
