Anchor down in Poquoson; haul out in Deltaville

- Winds remain fickle but gradually settle southwesterly during the night of Thursday, June 6, enabling me to make Poquoson around 0400 Friday. Sleep deprivation is taking a toll as I discover the following morning that I had not secured the anchor rode properly and that it was slowly paying out(!) ... Fickle winds prevail once again as I set off for Deltaville on Sunday, and the 35-mile run turns into another overnight sail. But light winds make it easy to scull the boat into the travel lift slip a few days later.

Come on Folks! How is it that we have so few subscribers for the best and most honest sailing channel? Let's get clicking....
Beyond All Things Is The Sea
Seneca
Because he grew a pair of balls instead of a pair of tits.
Thanks Tom, fair winds.
Kevin, how far north on the bay are you coming?
I shared it on FB, got some likes....if you guys like gaff cutters my boat's page is called Marihona Gaffcutter
Coz this is a real sailing channel.. quality more than quanTITTY... if you get my meaning...
Warren
Kevin,
As always, you're skill and your honesty is above reproach . Not many would show you the hard times and the real times while working under sleep deprivation . Having spent an entire career working and flying on the back side of the clock crossing oceans I could feel your pain and recognize it's effects on you.. I simply can not help but enjoy your mastery of your Vessel .

Excellent!! I started a diving company in the Chesapeake about 15 years ago called Under Boats. We worked in the Deltaville Marinas and private docks a lot. I love that area. Someone else bought the company but I think they still work in that area serving boaters.
Your boat is so beautiful! Very nice drone shot.
and just like that, the season came to an end......well done, classic. Thanks, Andrew
Ah, but the season never ends for us sailors, now it's the work season in the yard, ha ha ...
Happy to see you safely completed another journey. Thanks for all the videos.
Great video i enjoy all
You Captain sure knows how to handle a boat like a boss.
Great job, thanks for sharing.
Fair winds.
Nice landing you are such a good teacher. It is amazing how patient and how you use nature to sail and maneuver your boat and not using an engine; very inspiring...thank you for sharing my friend.
Kevin....
You’re doing a great job with your videos..... thanks very much....Stott
Thanks Stott! Enjoy the summer. I assume you will have your cutter out for a sail?
You are such a purist and for me it’s such a pleasure to watch your vids... I’ve just started to single hand and I feel it’s difficult but you do it without an engine😳⛵️⚓️ You’re an amazing sailor, meaning of course captain👍

Thanks for tuning in, Warren, and fair winds to you!
Time to get that through hull fixed! That last bit of footage with all the sails out is very cool. Beautiful boat!
I'm happy to see you made it safely into port, Kevin. While I'm in the midst of designing/building my new sailboat (I'm a retired naval architect & marine engineer), you've inspired (convinced) me to leave out the auxiliary diesel. That's something Lin and Larry Pardey were never able to do! I'm up here in Milbridge, Maine, along the "Bold Coast." Black Fly season has just begun to wain, but the "skeeters" and horse flies are now picking up in earnest! Work continues as you and other cruisers keep a steady stream of inspiration coming. I'm eagerly awaiting your next video (they can't come fast enough). Thanks you!
To my knowlege, none of the Pardey's boats had engines ... a retired naval architech/engineer? I may be seeking you out for consulting services ...
Great channel. Enjoyed your videos. Thanks for sharing. I subscribed.
Thanks for stopping by, Happy New Year!
Kevin , yet again . Bravo to you.
So enjoyed this! Thank you!!
Thanks for stopping by, Beth
Ahoy Kevin
Happy/sad to see her out of the water.
Looking forward to another hard work on the hard video.
Another great video, thanks!
Thanks Kevin for keeping us informed great episode.
Love the aerial footage. Thank you
Kevin your videos are great! I really enjoyed your drone shots. Your boat is beautiful under sail! Solo docking with no engine, that maneuver did not look rusty to me!
Great watch seeing you enter harbors, anchorages and docks. Well done sir. Thumbed.
Glad to see you made it back safely. Masterly 👏👏👏👏
Great looking yacht. Those double-enders have got to be my favorite.
Man, I have some catching up to do once I get better internet! I’m two episodes behind now :(
Ah, slow internet, the bane of us cruisers.
On the hard for some maintenance. Hooray. Glad you made a safe passage from Miami. Now time to catch some rest first. Happy sailing.
Wow beautiful drone footage what a gorgeous boat. I think ive said that before lol. Gorgeous nice sailing. Cheers
Lovin' that Phantom 3, especially after so many headaches with the Splash drone. Glad you like the footage, cheers
Another really good video!!!Thank you! That is one beautiful sailboat!!Like Solomon said ,something like--There are some things too wonderful for me,the way of a man with a maid and the way of a ship on the sea--.
Ever do, or think of doing, the Great Loop? (through the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi, across the Gulf, and up the East Coast.)
Nah, not a voyage for an engineless boat.
Nice to see you back online and on the sea! Always so inspiringto see your boat peacefully making her way wherever you intend to take her. Do you enjoy, as much as I do watching your videos?
Fair winds, keep strong and patient, and maybe we'll meet one day somewhere I yet only travel by videos!
Glad that you enjoy watching the vids, fair winds mate!
I’m glad to see you are safely in port. Excellent video. I dock near Reedville, so I’ve been watching your progress closely. So you went into Fishing Bay. I was waiting to see what the winds like going down that long narrow channel into Deltaville via Broad Creek. 😁
Love those drone shots of your beautiful gaffer. Glad you got some rest Kevin - serious stuff when you don't sleep. Could see it coming with your energy level dropping. Anyway too funny with the guy on the radio interrupting you. How rude! So what concerns me for us mariners is it will get more difficult to plan around and trust the weather reports due to the instability and ongoing Climate Crisis.
What „climate crisis“ are you talking about?
Please stop it right there, or bring scientific evidence that manmade CO2 is the controlknob for the earths temperature.
What was the last book that you read about climate science?
If you didn’t read any books about it at all, you’re just repeating the brainwashing of the MSM with your own voice , while you probably also believe that you’ve build up this opinion yourselves.
She looks a lot more graceful sailing than she does hanging on the slings. Best to you !
I don’t know, the docking looked pretty ok to me 👍
Hello nice video the camera problem happens to me all the time. Saludos
I love the GoPro except it's a little easy to get lost in menus you don't want ..
Nerve wrecking, such haul out
Very nice!
Are you in the Chesapeake Bay now? It would be interesting to discuss over a beer and lunch!
Presently in Fishing Bay
@@howtosailoceans1423 Contact me at dmc650 (at) hotmail when it's convenient for you. Love your work!
Kevin now it's time to get your vessel ship shape.
Hey Kevin you have a great looking vessel. Do you ever use a topsail? Might make a good video
Ahoy David, I have a topsail but have not flown it in years--too much friggin' in the riggin'--they do give you quite a boost in light winds, though.
Any videos of you in the Pacific? I know you have sailed a great deal. Very interesting content
Unfortunately that was long before I started vlogging.
Damn, for a moment I thought someone had videoed my mess up at the dock last
Tuesday (July 2) when I came back from 6 weeks on the hard.
We have athwartship current in the river and I totally missed the piling.
But the engine was in idle/reverse, so I had a "do-over" with no damage.
love your boat!
Gaff rig double ender? What is the make?
Hey Kevin! I grew up near Poquoson and now have our Crealock 37 in Deltaville. We should get a beer. Curious man I can’t find anywhere what your boat is, what is she. Dig your style too man. Talk soon. Peace
I did a boat tour about a year ago th-cam.com/video/G0LEqpmx3tI/w-d-xo.html
Funny I found that after. I’ve known the Southern Cross boats (35,39) and Thomas Gillmer for yrs. I wasn’t so familiar with the 31 though I did know them. I knew, I knew the boat but couldn’t place it. Thanks
The 35 and 39 were in our top choices. Great sea boats.
@@sunlovesailing The 39 I like a lot.

Westerlies tonight. Or maybe not.
Best of luck.

HA! Where can I download the app...
Love the drone shots! Which one do you have?
You don't see too many people cruising without a cockpit dodger or Bimini. How do you get by without them?
Learned behavior, I guess ...
@@howtosailoceans1423 I guess what I meant to ask is, what is your strategy for dealing with the intense heat and sunshine when at anchor? Thanks and great channel!
@@revelation1143 At anchor I mostly stay below during the daytime and keep the hatches open. It does get hot when there is no wind, though
@@howtosailoceans1423 And for sailing without the dodger, don't come sailing in northern latitudes! Good luck Kevin
So I hear you’ve been drifting...
Lots of light winds since I got north of Hatteras..
Real sailboat is gaffer with bowsprit!)
Thanks, Kevin. Got any major work planned?
Replacing the corroded through-hull (it's done actually, but I will not know if I got the sealant in correctly until the boat is launched).
👌🍺👍
