I'm interested to know what's to see further down Assateague Island in the OSV area. We were only there for a day and didn't want to spend the money on a permit for just one day. Are there larger herds of horses further South. It also looks like one can camp overnight as well. I'd like to plan a trip there again sometime and explore the island a little more.

About 7 years ago, I camped a couple of nights with family during summer. We stayed on site B37 I believe. Just to let you know, that place has an unbelievable amount of mosquitoes in summer. We did some crabbing and raking for clams on the bay side, and spend time on the beach, no problems. But as soon as the sun started getting lower, all the shady areas turned into a swarm of mosquitoes. I would recommend going during colder months, or be prepared with a large screen room/tent and lot’s of bug repellent. I have spent countless hours outdoors here in PA and have never ever seen mosquitoes like that until then.

@@mrad8944 Thanks for the heads up. I can believe that there will be lots of mosquitoes in summer. I've also been told to stay away in Spring and early summer due to the incredible amount of black flies that are present. They are apparently so bad that even the horses move from the bay side to the ocean side to get away from them. It was incredibly cold while we were there but on the bright side there were no bugs and crowds of people. I can just imagine what it looks like in summer.
