    when you mentioned the XLR, I had a flashback to the first time I ever encountered an o.g. DL4. A friend had the DL4 and MM4 set up in his studio with an SM58 running into them. My initial reaction was "man, these would be so cool on guitar"... well man, was my mind blown over the next few hours.

    Great playing as always, Mike! Love it, but I kinda wish L6 would do a 4 series looper. Not a delay, a looper. Maybe multiple loops et c. The DL4 looper was life-changing for me and is still my favorite user interface for looping. A more fully featured version of just that would rule.

    • @jhowellkc
      @jhowellkc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These delays do sound great, though. I'm just ass deep in delays already but still haven't found a looper I like as much as the DL4. The MXR clone looper is close but seems to clip a little too easily with multiple layers. At least mine does.

    I think I only want to watch pedal reviews done by you. You are crafting exactly the kind of sounds in exactly the kind styles that I would want to craft with a tool like this. Your taste is absolutely great. Unlike so many pedal review videos, I don't have to strain to imagine how it would sound with my playing style. You're doing the Lords work.

    Thanks for a thorough and experienced introduction to this new generation of Line 6 DL4 MK II. I have always preferred analog or software-based effects due to possible catastrophic failures of circuit components in digital pedals, but this seems like a great solution, especially for gigging musicians. It’s definitely on my list. 🙏

    When this pedal dropped I only wanted to hear two people's opinions on it: one was "Mr. DL4" Dave Knudson of Minus The Bear fame, and the other was "my old pal, Mike." You both provided excellent demos of the pedal, and I especially loved how well you utilized the expression pedal in your video. Additionally, seeing you get immersed in some of the sounds and just play away is as legitimate of an endorsement as I've ever seen, so I'm happy to say I'll be picking one of these up because you made it look like so much fun. Cheers Mike!

    • @AndrewStottisTheIndiWerWlf
      @AndrewStottisTheIndiWerWlf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and no. This pedal stood the test of time because they got the features and sounds right. I think there were other ways to pay homage to the original that would have looked better but I think most people will still get this even if they're not crazy about the aesthetics.

    • @solomonsanchez1897
      @solomonsanchez1897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they would have made it's appearance vastly different, then you would likely have more folks complaining than the small minority wishing for something completely different. They weren't going to please everyone, but if it doesn't break after six weeks, then it's vastly superior to the original.

    Wow! Between yours's and Ryan Burke's Demo, it would make me want to get one. My problem is that my guitar skills as a beginner are not yet worthy. I need to learn more about the basics. Like how a looper works and how to smoothly operate. trying to learn on a Donner Circle Looper. You give a small demo of some ambient sound, but would say that' the extent or would it be open to more ambient guitar sounds?

    • @Puisheen
      @Puisheen  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      My take: fun is fun no matter your skill level, so don't limit yourself based on some artificial set of hurdles! If you can play a chord, you can have fun with delay and looping, and I bet you can find a compelling sound that makes you dig in even harder. Plus, loopers are great for learning too. When I decided to try to be more of a 'lead' guitarist, the DL4 actually helped a lot by giving me my own backing tracks. I'm sure the Donner does the same for you.
      Oh I wouldn't presume to speak for the ambient sounds -- that's not usually my wheelhouse. There's a bunch of ambient stuff in the box, far more than I'm capable of showing off

    Love your music, man, nice work. it's fun to hear your musical style with this pedal. can I request a special video just about the LOOPER? there is not a video out there that I have found that fully explains how the DL4 looper works, original or new. like REALLY break it down. meaning --- It took my reading the manual and playing around last night to figure out some basic functionality. for example, when in looper mode, you can't use delays aside from the built in echo, but only on the base layer -- SO -- once your loop is playing and you're in overdub mode, you can switch out of looper mode and your layers will have delay. is that obvious to everyone? ! I might remember reading that is new to the MkII?? -- so if you were to say, record a layer of no playing first, just silence, then go into OD mode, ALL of your layers can have delay? also would be cool to talk about the one shot looper function. seems losing tap tempo is a high price to pay! anyway, the DL4 is one of the most popular loopers and there seems to be a lack of good content just focused on that. you're the perfect guy!

    I have a few questions that i'd like to know the answer to before making a big investment in a new pedal, does the dl4 mkII have reverse reverb ? that kind of reverb used by my bloody valentine and other alike shoegaze bands ? can the reverb be used without any delay ? or is it more of a delay pedal that has types of reverb as a bonus ? but can't solely be used as a reverb pedal ? Thank you so much and keep up with those videos, i love the way you explore offset guitars.

      @joseborges6239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tubasco504 i know it has reverse delay, like the previous dl4 which i also owned, what i want to know is if does have a reverse reverb, which doesn't sound like a reverse delay, not the same thing...i'd love to know if it has reverse reverb, if it does, i'm sold :P if not, i guess i'll buy the mooer R7 X2 and just get another basic delay pedal like a digidelay by digitech.

    • @tubasco504
      @tubasco504 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joseborges6239 ah, my mistake. They don't show a reverse reverb in the list. I plan to look at the reverse delay patch with the delay turned down to see if the reverb is also reversed. (unlikely, since they just pair reverbs from the list with the delays)
      From everything I've seen the reverbs are simply a bonus, and don't have many adjustable parameters.

    Incredible review. I’m really glad someone who understands the pedal, & is creative enough to take advantage of it, did a review demonstrating how useful this device is.
    At least one popular YT pundit has spent a lot of time & energy (a full video & livestream) explaining why he likes the HX Stomp instead, which is significantly more expensive, & might be the least intuitive piece of gear Line 6 has ever produced. He doth protest too much, about a product he can’t make money selling profiles for.
    Many of us don’t need a million effects & options buried in 18 submenu levels that require extra accessories &/or a midi controller.
    I also don’t need or want the variations of an old space echo, & definitely don’t want the CBP latest, which seems like a small clone of Hologram’s Microcosm.
    The DL4 MKII fits the bill, so much better, for my needs. Having the things I need, attached to physical knobs & dials, along with the most performer friendly looper, is where it’s at.
