    Here's some thoughts about my new Ascend H12 hybrid kayak. It's marketed as a hybrid sit on top / sit inside kayak, but to me seems more of a hybrid kayak / canoe. I think of it as my "Ky'noe" and I love it. I've made a few modifications, but it's great as it comes as well.

    If you add some pontoons, you can stand with ease. It really does stabilize it. I made some for a canoe I had when I was younger and it really helped.

    I grew up bass fishing in Southern Illinois with an open face. But then I switched to fly-fishing and never looked back. Just wanted to mention that you have really good accuracy with your casts, you make it look easy just flinging it out there. I was considering one of these hybrids until I realized they werent as good in rapids as a regular canoe.

    Well that's 2 hobbies we share. If you start brewing beer it's going to get scary similar. I'm thinking about a bixby motor, though I'm uninformed at the moment. I really like that infinite switch, and better utilization of your battery.
    I found this by looking for a review of the 10h.

    I am a wildlife photographer on lakes looking for choosing between sit-in like what you have vs. sit on Ascend 10T. Any suggestion why I should choose one over the other? I plan to install transom mounted motor with steering mechanism. Which is more stable, less water splash, ... etc.

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly
      @DanHiteshew-oneandonly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're worried about splash, a sit on top is very wet and splashy. A sit inside is more stable in the water too, so may be better for shooting. Sit inside stores tons of gear too. Being inside not only keeps you out of the wind more, but also puts you closer to the water line for less wind cross section.

      @@DanHiteshew-oneandonly Thanks Dan. How does mid point mounted trolling motor do on steering? I even thought of installing trolling motor on some sort of heavy duty kayak rudder (may not be strong enough to hold) though I would have to buy an expansive motor with remote speed / reverse / forward control. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    • @DanHiteshew-oneandonly

      @@DanOhPhotography The mid-side mount does reduce the steerability, but I want to be able to hoist or lower the motor while on the water. A rig that lets me deploy and retract the motor from the rear would cost more than is worth to me. (Torqueedo ultralight is $1800)
