What color are you wearing? Love the shirt but I typically hate all cotton shirts because they are so stiff. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your glasses. Do you know the brand and/or the style name/number? They are fantastic.
I knit the Emotional Support Chicken for my 18 mo old grandson for this past Christmas. His parents have chickens that he loves to chase around the yard. He puts the knitted chicken in his little wagon and pulls him around his house.
My Aunt recently passed and my cousin sent me a lot of her yarn stash. I’m making my aunt’s whole family emotional support chickens from her yarn stash. My cousin and I are having so much fun planning this. 🐓🐓🐓
What a lovely gift for your aunt’s family- a lovely legacy. I made my granddaughter a sweater set using the pattern my mother made every baby in her life, with yarn from my mother-in-law’s stash that I inherited. Lots of sentiment knit by her nana- I love this kind of way to honour those we love.
I’ve made 4 emotional support chickens and I have one on my needles. They are Cluck Norris, Gregory Peck, Princess Layer, and Scarlet O’Henra. They are so fun to make.
This has to be my favorite episode! I never laughed so hard until seeing your emotional chicken. I had no idea it was a thing. I totally lost it when you showed our chicken & said it was "spatchcock". You inspired me to step out of my comfort zone & knit an emotional chicken from my stash. Her name is Cleo-Peck-tra, Queen of the Nest. Thank you for the heart wink❤😊
Everything I love about you is on display in this episode. What I want from a knitting podcast is a friend who's delighting their way through their projects while I do the same on mine. Please don't ever think you need to be fancier- you are precious "as-is"! You're more fun than a billion eyeballs...
OK, so, I've had the Emotional Support Chicken on my Rav Queue for a while and I blame you for making me pause this video, hoping in the car, driving to Michael's, and buying yarn to finally make this project 😂 Also ... "Pouring forth from my creative loins..." 🙌I don't think the creative process has ever been put into words so accurately and poetically!
Oooo yes! So glad you’re going to knit an ESC Kristin! You’re going to love it. I can’t wait to see your color palette! (And I can be real poetic and flowery when I need to be. 😉)
My mother in law used to make pottery chickens. She was pretty serious about it, she would sell them at little artisans markets and she has some all over the house. I think I may need to knit her an emotional support chicken for her birthday.
I have 9 great grandchildren. This video has me ALMOST convinced to start knitting emotional support chickens for Christmas..... ALMOST. You make it seem so much fun. A real break from serious sweaters..
We would allow this emotional support chicken in our office. Believe it or not, one of my partners in our primary care group had a patient who would bring a live chicken with her to her appointments because it was her emotional support animal. That did not go over well with the other patients in the waiting room so we had to insist that she stop but this gal would be welcome anytime.
That chicken is all over my socials, and I keep thinking about it. Specifically, I want to see how small it is if I make a sock weight one. I think I’ve talked myself into it 😂
I bought the pattern and made one. I don’t know about the actual emotional support either, but I just want to sit and hold it. I couldn’t bring myself to give it to my grandson so I’m making one of his own.
I now have a small flock of three emotional support chickens: Kim KardashiHEN, HENry Styles, and Chickie Ole. The first one was such a fun knit I couldn't stop. Making ones for gifts now.
I gifted an emotional support chicken to my mother for her birthday and received several requests from family members for their own chickens! So far I’ve made three and am not tired of it yet! Big fan!
I spent the last week flirting with the idea of making my own emotional support chicken after having hugged one made out of handspun wool at my local yarn festival. As a beginner spinner, I am waiting for my handcarters to arrive, and I already know what project I'll be spinning for ;)
My friend knit this chicken - she used some beads in a zip lock baggie in the bottom to help stabilize the chicken and prevent it from tipping over. 🐤💕
I'm making an Emotional Support Chicken for my sister. She'll love it! But I had to leave it in the coop this weekend (Clucky's a surprise) because she's here today for my birthday. I'm not a Spring chicken anymore. Anyway, I loved your poultry show today. We're all in the emotional support chicken herd with you. Peeps of a feather flock together, ya know.😂 I'll stop now. 🤦🏻♀️
Cluck Norris is what Jana at Finnish Knitting Stories named her emotional support chicken. She calls her Clucky. Jana was the first person I saw make one. They are so cute. Enjoy yours. This was fun.
I jumped on the chicken bandwagon last week. I hate making stuffies, but this one was a breeze and went so fast. Her name is Darcie the Divorce Suupport chicken , for a friend. The Pike Place tea is delicious, but if you can't source it (I'm in Kansas, Good Earth Sweet and Spicy is a great substitute and available readily at the grocery store)
I totally agree about how fun the ESC is to make. I hate making toys- all those pieces and mine generally end up looking like Frankenstein and scaring small children-lol(just ask my grandchildren)! However, so many podcasters raved about the ESC and the name is cool and they look cute. I followed the you tube video tutorial and knit mine in a weekend and absolutely loved the process and the result. The eyes resolve the how to embroider eyes probes and the face looked good. Mine has green eyes- only colour at our local craft store. I stuffed mine with left over yarn ends that I have collected I over the years, which gives a nice weight and texture, so I agree about wool stuffing being a good choice. Thanks for a fun podcast!
This is so funny to me. I didn't know what an emotional support chicken was, but my boyfriend and I jokingly refer to you as my emotional support knitter. I look forward to your videos and always feel better after I watch them! ❤
I love the way the first thing you do when you opened your package was smell it, yes it’s wool. My friend and I when we do yarn shops at our machine knitting club, we both smell to make sure. Love the chicken and yes blue eyes ❤
Thank you for sharing your Emotional Support Chicken! I've made two of them for my grandchildren. Ben, the youngest, brought his to school for show and tell! Every school nurse should have one in their office for the kids.
Watch out! Once you start knitting animals, you can’t stop. I love knitting Claire Garland’s animals even though I just use one strand of acrylic yarn instead of expensive stuff since my kids want to play with them. The shaping is magical!
Omg my telepathy worked! In the random patterns video, the chicken popped up, and I was loudly thinking “ I wanna know more about the chicken!!!” 🐓 And you’re actually knitting it! 😂❤
I am so happy to see you excited about your chicken! As someone who keeps real hens (currently 14, each a different breed) I can confirm they are an emotional support and super fun, real or stuffed! I've seen kits that included a bit of bling for the stuffed hens. I am pleased to see the knitting community having fun with chickens! Happy Knitting!
I've been wanting to knit the chicken for weeks now but was a bit intimidated, so this podcast was very on time for me! Glad to know it is not as complicated as some have made it seem. I think I will use fingering weight held double because I have so much of it.
Not gonna lie-- I almost didn't click on this video, even though I've never shied away from multiple WiPs. But if I click this, I'm going to have to make one. Aaaand, here I am, and here you've got another subscriber! This video feels like hanging out and chatting with friends! Plus, Emotional Support Chicken, YES!! 😂🐔
After watching this, I looked into the chicken some more and now I'm obsessed. I talked about it in a professional meeting with my IT team. I called my daughter and told her about it. I ordered the eyes. I can't wait to get this on my needles.
When you put in the safety eyes, after you put on the plastic lock washer, melt the post and push it down with a lighter. This will help to lock them in even better.
@@EsmereldaPea that’s literally what I do. Turn the area where the eyes are inside out and hold back the yarn and put the post in a lighter flame. It doesn’t take long for the plastic post to melt just enough to push it flat with the back end of the lighter.
Delightful podcast! I tuned in to hear about the Emotional Support Chicken. I’m going to knit one for a kids maker space where I volunteer. Sometimes kids just need to hug a chicken.
I am so happy you love that tea! I discovered this tea in 1974. I have been drinking it forever, but I prefer it loose. It also blends well with black tea. Enjoy your tea! I am thinking about knitting the emotional support chicken. I am thrilled that you are not a professional podcaster. I am getting very tired of those. I love podcasts that make me feel like we are sitting across the table from each other, knitting, chatting and sipping tea.
i love my emotional support chickens. i made 2 and if i sit the whole day i can finish it within 2 days. as a beginner knitter it was so easy, any questions just follow the video
You need a emotional support chicken in the kitchen for when you have formed an emotional attachment to the onions before cutting them. But now you are crying because the onions are chopped. Thank goodness for the support chicken to dry your tears and help you overcome that the onions are dead. 😂 (Sorry for spelling and grammar errors, english is not my first language)
There is a full tutorial by the pattern designer on TH-cam that is helpful so anyone can make it. I finished one for a friend for her birthday because she has chickens 🐓 and she loved it.
I have seen three so far ( on different podcasts) I think they are adorable! Your colors are perfect with blue eyes!!! I am joining the bandwagon now. Thanks for the fun and sweet podcast!!!
I am making the emotional support chicken! How fun is this! She has a video tutorial on the pattern that walks you through the whole thing! Love it so much!
ChickenKnits. Or your FairFeatheredFriend. And your excitement is contagious. Trying to get my knit group to do a MAL Everyone needs an emotional support chicken.
Okay, I confess. I got bought the pattern, make the "pillow" and have to find someone to give it to because I no longer struggle with anxiety. I'm actually pretty good at it now.
Hysterical! And love the chicken. When I started knitting mine there we only 200+ projects on Ravelry. It is gaining popularity. I knit mine with bits of stash yarn. I found eyes with eyelashes on Amazon. EVERYONE needs the chicken. Make one. Love your names too.
Emotional support chicken shape may work well as a tea pot cozy! Very cute. I'm amazed at how creative people can get. Last night, during a bout of insomnia, I watched @ComplicatedKnots on TH-cam crochet an angler fish lamp that works!
Ok, so for me...the "One Where Taylor Talks About Her Emotional Support Chicken" is easily top 10 of my most favorite WNH podcasts! Absolutely loved it! But, yes, once you've stuffed her, Plucky (I've named her for you 🥰) will indeed provide infinite amounts of emotional support. How do I know...well I have a knitted cow named Atiba (purchased, not made) and he does that for me. Also, I've been making the My Pretty Brown Dolls by Yolonda Jordan for years (dozens by now) and immediately after she's been crocheted, stuffed and finished, she magically comes to life and animates in a way that puts tears in my eyes each.and.every.time. You'll see. 🥰 Ok, now...WARNING...Grammar Nerd and Homeschool Mom alert to follow!!!!!! - How you know the pronunciation is Pa-tons is that when broken down into syllables, the /a/ is open, therefore making the long vowel sound /ay/. HTH!
I first heard of the Emotional Support Chicken on Jana's podcast, Finish Knitting Stories. I thought it was just something she did on her own and I thought it was hilarious!! Now I know it's gone viral and I want to knit one too! Thank you for sharing yours with us. 😊
Taylor! I laughed out loud about the emotional support chicken and went immediately to Ravelry and bought the pattern. I must have it! Thanks so much for showing us. I am sure I have appropriate yarn. So excited! Need some whimsy projects!!
I just finished my first Emotional Support Chicken yesterday and I love her so much. Her name is Yolko Ono. She brought me so much joy as I knitted her.
I loved watching you gush about the emotional support chicken. I've made 3 of them: one for me, one for my 20 year-old son, and one for my 16 year-old daughter. We all love them so much! Can't wait to see yours all finished!
Hi Tayler! I've been watching your videos every week for some time now and I love the info and your presentation. I just had to comment tonight because I was actually working on an "Emotional Support Chicken" at the same time!! And I just giggled out loud through your intro. This pattern is truly a joy to knit. And, yes, the pattern formatting is a bit out of the ordinary but you just have to read through it to figure out where it's going. I am knitting it as an Easter gift for my grandson (age 6-1/2) who is very much like your "tender heart" when it comes to his 'stuffies.' Also he lives in a rural neighborhood and loves helping his neighbor with her chickens. He collects eggs, feeds, and happily and proudly shovels out the coop! This is such a quick and fun knit that I will be knitting a second one for 'Johnny' to give to his chicken mentor, 'Ms. Debbie!'
I’ve been seeing other podcasts/Instagram posts featuring this pattern and shared with my husband who thought it was extremely hilarious. He happened to encounter a lady knitting while visiting a friend in the hospital, struck up a conversation with her and mentioned this pattern and she also had seen it and thought the same. Now I find myself planning to knit dear husband one for Christmas in his favorite football team’s colors (lifelong Kansas City fan) and call it “Chief”.
Hi. I named my emotional support chicken Molly, after the girl hen in Chicken Run - Dawn of the Nugget. Yana from Finnish Knitting Stories named hers Cluck Norris, Clucky for short.
I remember Molly from the first Chicken Run film. It would be so cute if you dressed your chicken like her with pearls, hat, and a set of small knitting needles! 😊
never heard of an emotional support chicken but now I really want to knit one. looks like it would be a great learning experience as well! Love this episode!
Hysterical laughter at “spatchcocked”…!!! I know this is an older video of about 3 months ago, but I’m catching up on some of yours that I have missed, and this one got my morning off on a rollicking laugh. Thanks! (Recently new subscriber, from just outside of Seattle, WA.)
Just started my chicken 😁. When you brought the stuffing onto the screen, you reminded me that one of the drivers where I work, brought me a small bag of wool that had been shorn off of his first flock. It hasn’t been washed or anything, but I wonder if I could use it to stuff this bird. 😂. I should wash it first. lol. Anyway, thanks for this episode as I too will be looking for a natural filler - at least to add to what I have. Looking forward to seeing them done. Btw: the knitting tree LA has an Emotional Support Chicken tutorial on their site.
Oh I loved the Emotional Support Chicken. I did a bit of a Google Search on this and it looks like 'real' chickens can be used and called Emotional Support Chickens. They state: 'Emotional support chickens are basically chickens used to provide comfort and entertainment to anxious, depressed, or lonely people.' so there you go. Fascinating...I had no idea!!
I made an emotional support last year as a new knitter(less than a year) I had no trouble with the pattern, great pattern, adorable emotional support chicken. Thanks for sharing!!!
I'm not much of a stuffy knitter, and I've knit two emotional support chickens, and I want to knit an entire flock. I asked my friends and I was told it was not weird if I send everyone off for clinical rotations (I'm a second year med student) with an emotional support chicken. They take about three days to make for me, and since I don't really stash worsted weight yarn they could become a very expensive habit. I knit Betty Egg-White for my best friend (I love the names from The Knitting Tree LA), and when she arrived he gave me chicken puns for the other three Golden Girls actresses, so I may need to knit those up and send him his own flock. I think those will need name tags.
You are an evil genius. People forget that med students are actually human. That won't go away. Keep doing human things to remind everyone, including yourself!
@@ginninadances Thank you! We are definitely human, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes. More than likely I'll pick up the yarn and knit the chickens over the next couple months and then have everyone over for dinner (probably not chicken) and let them pick out a chicken. I start my dedicated boards study in the about a month and a half, so more time to watch videos of review topics and knit chickens.
Oh the Emotional Support Chicken is real. My daughter bought one (not knitted) a few years ago. Hers is weighted & so when she has anxiety she lays down with it on her chest.
Well, I'm sitting here next to my Prince & the RevolusHEN (lots of purple), and I blame Kevin and Ray. They were all excited and had to make one, because Chevyrell had made one, and everyone was making one, and you just HAVE to get the kit because it's so cute, and the packaging is just hilarious and adorable, and it never occurred to me to just buy the pattern off of Ravelry and use my own yarn (duh). The kit was very expensive for what you get, the yarn material is not identified (wool? acrylic? Who knows?), the thicknesses of the different yarns are not the same, and I am usually so good at not falling for The Current Thing, how did this happen to me? Not that the chicken isn't cute. It's cute. It has green eyes and lots of purple, and it's cute. I have one important piece of advice (besides just buying the pattern and using your own yarn): whatever you do, however turned around or mixed up you get (and it won't matter very much because most of it is garter stitch), MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHEN YOU START THE BEAK. If you don't do that, it will be inside out and look stupid. So, mixed review, and I'm feeling a little bit torn (emotionally) from the whole experience, but that's okay because I have an emotional support chicken. 🤨😛
I'm so excited! As soon as I saw the pattern on Ravelry I knew I had to try it. I have not used short rows before, or knit a 3D object. Thanks for sharing the wool stuffing resource, that is a great idea!
I’ve knit 3 emotional support chickens and I think the pattern is brilliant! I just wanted to mention that the pattern designer has a step by step video on TH-cam in case anyone is having a problem or is new to short rows. Rock on, I dare you to knit just one!
Enjoy. ❤🐔

Yep, emotional support chickens ARE the cutest and bestest. They are working up a crochet pattern for it too. I'm so clucking excited.

Hysterical! And love the chicken. When I started knitting mine there we only 200+ projects on Ravelry. It is gaining popularity. I knit mine with bits of stash yarn. I found eyes with eyelashes on Amazon. EVERYONE needs the chicken. Make one. Love your names too.
Omg, market spice tea is some of my favorites! I love a Seattle fog which is made with the spice tea
HTH!
I really enjoyed your podcast. I have all the yarn to make my chicken...I have started on the tail.
OMG Yolko Ono. I love it!! ❤️
The "viewers like you" message at the end made me so nostalgic for my PBS kids childhood
Same, my friend. Same. ❤️
Debbie!'
I love that you have an emotional support chicken 🐔 for your most chaotic episode ever 😆🤎
Taylor, it would be so funny if the eyes were different sizes and focused in different directions! As if she's been hugged a bit too tightly!
never heard of an emotional support chicken but now I really want to knit one. looks like it would be a great learning experience as well!
I’m cracking up. I so wanted you to click on that chicken during your Ravelry Roulette podcast! 😂I must knit one.
You talked me right into that darn chicken and the pattern designer has a how to video❤
I made an emotional support last year as a new knitter(less than a year) I had no trouble with the pattern, great pattern, adorable emotional support chicken. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Taylor, your enthusiasm for the chicken made me smile throughout the episode 😄 Love the names! Sandy
@@Viennagirl1120 good luck! I know the first ones are the most difficult. (My sister is a physician)
I very much enjoy that I'm watching this as I'm working through the body of my second emotional support chicken. 😂
Oh the Emotional Support Chicken is real. My daughter bought one (not knitted) a few years ago. Hers is weighted & so when she has anxiety she lays down with it on her chest.
You had me at Emotional Support Chicken. I had heard of an emotional support pickle that is crocheted but I really think I need one of these. ASAP
I did the exact same thing, and had to reknit the beak! The youtube video was very helpful, as I bought only the pattern and used scraps.
I'm so excited! As soon as I saw the pattern on Ravelry I knew I had to try it. I have not used short rows before, or knit a 3D object. Thanks for sharing the wool stuffing resource, that is a great idea!
😂 Cluck Norris! 😂
I’ve knit 3 emotional support chickens and I think the pattern is brilliant! I just wanted to mention that the pattern designer has a step by step video on TH-cam in case anyone is having a problem or is new to short rows. Rock on, I dare you to knit just one!
I’m about to finish my first one and I’m already planning future ones in various yarn weights. I love using up scrap stash
@@karendavis7278 it’s a great scrappy project!
