Just came to listen to this after hearing the news of Takahashi sensei's passing and just tears. Tears through the whole thing. This show meant so much to me as a kid, the game meant even more. I've been on and off with the game my whole life and just came back to it about 6 months ago. I was in a bad place, didn't have any friends or hobbies until I decided to download master duel. After getting pretty into that, I decided I wanted to make my deck irl and start playing at locals. Through that I've met a whole host of amazing friends and even a girlfriend. This game, with no hyperbole, played a huge role in saving my life. Rest in piece Kazuki Takahashi, you created one of the greatest manga, anime, and games to ever exist, and I cannot thank you enough for the role they played in my life

I actually just pulled my old cards out and I’m on a roller coaster of emotions right now. This show was my childhood. Started watching at 8 and I’m now 16. Starting out with Yu Gi Oh Zexal and ending on Arc V. Man… just… wow…. Thank you Takahashi, you bloody legend for building my childhood on cards and monsters 💕
I feel ya man. Because of him, I was able to unlock old memories and help get through traumatizing experiences with family. Yugioh taught me a lot. To open up to people, think about the good things and not focus on the bad, have good relationships with the people you love. Overcome the bad things, Smile even when you’re sad, and people love you who who you are. Because of him now, I can move on from the past and build for the future.
All my life I missed out on yugioh I always thought yugioh was a boring anime so I never watched it until 7 months ago my friends had yugioh cards I was interested so I tried out yugioh DM and as soon as I watched the first episode I turned into a yugioh addicted 😅 then I watched gx then 5ds then zexal then arc v then vrains and now I'm watching sevens sure I didn't know yugioh my whole life just that one moment changed everything for me I'm really glad that yugioh is a thing and I hope that yugioh can live on and I still wish that they would at least show us if yusei and akiza got married I'd pay money to see that cuz 5ds is my favorite yugioh series

Gx opening: Fun loving and high tempo promising for a fun time.
Gx show: Tons of fun filler, if not a bit too much of it, before it evolves into a deep character study leading to mass genocide, misery and depression in the later seasons
5ds opening: Incredible track full of hopefully lyrics and visuals hoping for a brighter future
5ds show: Dystopian future society with the low class being made criminals just for being low class
Zexel openings: Fun catchy beat, bright visuals promising a fun time
Zexel show: Global genocide and planetary destruction
Arc V opening: another gun catchy beat with visuals showing this as being more child friendly and entertainment orientated
Arc V show: Literally the holocaust

The original seems a lot more dark than the newer ones.
To a certain degree. GX got pretty dark in the last two seasons, 5Ds was usually mature, Zexal tried to be, but failed due to ridiculous character designs, and Arc-V is really good.

Even though Akiza never said it was highly hinted at (and ended with almost a kiss subbed only) her having feelings for Yusei
Even though we know for sure Asuka loves Judai, Aki loves yusei and both Yuzu and Yuya are in love with one another, they never confessed. It's hinted yusei and Aki might have kissed, but it's not really sure. Judai literally doesn't feel anything for Asuka, hence why she stopped before confessing, she knew he didn't feel the same way. Anzu and Yugi might love each other byt it's once again never really developed. As to Aoi and Yusaku... The only "romance" we can get out of them is that bench scene from season where we could understand Aoi maybe feels something for Yusaku, but it's really unclear.
Kotori is pretty much the only character who outright confesses to the main character, and we know Yuma probably feels the same

Yeah I really love GX. The original was ok and was good. But I just really really love GX. All the character have a ton of development and it can be seen easily through out the seasons. My favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! series was definite 5Ds. 5Ds was subjectively the most mature and well-developed of all 5 series, with a fully developed or near-fully developed protagonist by the start of the series. Furthermore, the "Synchro Summon" introduced with 5Ds wasn't too radical and was fairly balanced. Compared to Zexal and Arc V, synchro summoning made much more sense in terms of overall balance and story implementation compared to XYZ Summon and especially the OP OP Pendulum Summon. In Zexal and ARC V, the protagonist is also essentially a child and remains mostly a child throughout their respective series. I liked GX as a sort of standalone side story to the original Yu-Gi-Oh!, but with a lighter tone and much more developed "Dual Monsters" game mechanics. The problem I mainly have with the original is that the dub is less than ideal most of the time, and the game mechanics are very rough, unrefined, and "rational or realistic" (knocking out flotation rings, electrifying the ocean, etc.). I did like the characters and the incredibly immersive story of the original series though. With Zexal and Arc V, it's difficult to treat them as proper Yu-Gi-Oh! series in terms of pertaining to the original's features.
For the theme songs, 5Ds is my favorite, with the original and GX tied for second. Zexal and Arc V can't really count as proper Yu-Gi-Oh!, with reference to the tones set by the original.

Yeah, synchro summoning is very easy to do. Plus, I love Yusei and how mature it is compared to the other series. Great characters, too bad 4Kids never dubbed the rest, cause I really like Greg Abbey as Yusei, he did a great job.

I may not like Zexal but I have to admit “Halfway to Forever” is one of the best openings we’ve ever gotten
Edit: I rewatched Zexal and finished it. The dub makes a LOT of bad editing decisions but, as Caswell says, in the end Zexal is actually quite good. Not as good as 5D’s but I definitely have a higher opinion of it now than I did 2 years ago when I wrote this comment.

I think the craziest thing is that Zexal has two english opening. I was really surprised considering that pretty much no other show has more then one english opening.

+Jackie Roxas I think they were talking about the Yu-Gi-Oh! openings each show only had one song between every season. Yeah the images were different, but the only one with multiple songs was Zexal
Well the original series uses a different version of the theme song for some seasons but other than that they pretty much keep the same theme songs in the dub but with different visuals every season.

If we are talking about the songs, then I think GX, 5D's, and Zexal are better. I like meaningful words, so that is why I pick them. I do really like the originals beginning were it actually sounds ancient.

Yusei was an actual GOOD duelist and not only was he just a really great person the dude was the CHILLEST mf on the planet.

TheBlueBlur - Gaming and Reviews It would. I know girls who watch this series and play the game it'd be a nice change in pace. Every series has done something different so why not have a female protagonist. We've seen females in this series who were important to the plot or at least pretty good being overall better than most of the males.
Mai - She wasn't bad at all even though she lost most of her duels due to hokey reasons.
Alexis - Was one of the best in a school that seemed predominantly male.
Akiza - Imo the most competent and interesting female duelist we've had so far. Has one of the best records, only loses 3 times to 2 people and was *JUST* as skilled as the main character.
Rio - She was good, I'd imagine becoming a Barian boosted her abilities.
Yuzu - Most interesting female character since Akiza, she's shown some serious skill, and she's relevant to the plot of Arc-V.
A female protagonist would be a nice change in pace.
