When & Why Carburetor Of A Bike & Scooter Should Be Checked, Adjusted, Cleaned & Changed

Carburetor malfunctions can be pretty frustrating. In my experience, when a motorcycle starts acting up I check the carburetor first because that’s usually the culprit.

You must aware of Common symptoms of a bad carburetor that you can check to see if it really is the reason your motorcycle or scooter is running poorly.
Running Lean
The main function of a carburetor on a motorcycle is mixing the appropriate amount of air and fuel the engine needs to run properly. When a motorcycle is running lean, that means there’s too much air and not enough fuel in the air/fuel mixture during the combustion process. This process takes place in the carburetor if your motorcycle has one.
A lean running motorcycle will be made known by a sluggish performance, the exhaust pipes running hotter than normal that may turn blue, and if the spark plugs wear out faster than normal. This is because the excessive air is making the mixture burn much hotter than it should.
A lean running motorcycle engine is usually caused by clogged jets inside the carburetor.
Running Rich
A motorcycle running rich is sometimes viewed as the opposite as a motorcycle running lean. Running rich means that there is too much fuel in the air/fuel ratio inside the carburetor and will, in turn, make the motorcycle run poorly.
Backfiring
There are several reasons why a motorcycle can backfire unintentionally, but two of the biggest reasons will include too much fuel or too little fuel getting delivered (lean or rich) from the carburetor.
Sputtering
If you have a motorcycle that is sputtering, the likely culprit is the carburetor. There are three main reasons why which includes a vacuum leak, fuel leak, and being out of tune.
Motorcycle Won’t Start
If you have a motorcycle that won’t start, the carburetor may be dirty and will need a good cleaning.
Lost Power During Acceleration
When power is lost during acceleration, it’s likely there is some issue within the carburetor. Such reasons may include clogged jets, a broken carburetor spring, a vacuum leak from the carburetor or intake boot, or a spring placed backwards.
Idling High
When a motorcycle is idling high, that means there is too much of an air/fuel mixture at a low speed or in neutral position. Essentially the combustion reaction continues to occur more frequently when the motorcycle isn’t going fast, or really going at all. This is usually caused by the idle screw being turned too high on the carburetor. Luckily a simple few turns should fix the problem.

Problem with my fz it's an old bike but very well maintained and I have spent a lot of money in the past thinking its wiring issue coz if I keep in idil it won't start or take any ignition and finally I got to know that it was carburator issue.. now I off my reserve everytime when am stopping the engine and its working fine for now.

सर, मेरी बाइक पेसन प्रो BS3 है, 12hr या सुवह को वुद-वुद की आवाज ओर एक्सलेटर देने पर इंजन रेस नहीं पकड़ती है, लेकिन 5 मिनट आईडल ओर 2km चलने के बाद सब कुछ ठीक हो जाता है, कार्बोरेटर भी साफ करा दिया है फिर भी वही समस्या है कृपया बताए क्या करूं?

Bhai if you have super bike then power petrol is recommended or high octane petrol required. But for Indian bike normal petrol is ok

Mileage na dene ka ke bahut se karan ho sakte hai… check the air filter, change spark plug,check wheels bearings,check drive chain slack,clean and lube the chain,check tyre air pressure,make sure wheels rotate freely,clean and tune up the carburettor,check the valve clearance,check the exhaust(silencer) if all these 👆🏻don’t work, change the carburettor
