So cool he mentioned the foxfire books, I mentioned to Ben a week or so back that I was re-reading them after owning them in the 80's looking for all their old musical instrument plans.
somebody once gave me a $100 Amazon gift card for Christmas. I immediately went and bought the Foxfire collection. They're essential. Another recommendation is the back issues of Experimental Musical Instruements (pdf format on CD Rom). barthopkin.com/books-cds/
Yeah, I'm actually ordering the EMI disks as a birthday gift to myself later this month. I've held off because I keep hoping to find actual old hard copy editions, online or in used bookstore. I had several years worth, but I think they got damaged or lost after my apartment fire. I had stopped subscribing before they featured you. I honestly wonder if I had seen that issue if I would have started making cbgs way back then. I used to make flutes and drums and mess around with circuit bending, but back then I thought guitar making was an arcane and mysterious alchemy best left to people who called themselves Luthiers. Had I seen the article on you and learned how easy and freaking cool it was to shove a stick in a cigar box, god knows how many I would have built by now.
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen of these instruments, I didn’t really understand how they kept rhythm until I saw this video
