Even despite waking up to the rain, we were all still in pretty good spirits because it was "town day." This meant in less than 6 miles, we'd be in Longmire eating real food, dumping our garbage, using a flush toilet, washing our hands with running water, picking up our final food cache for the trip and sitting on a chair at a table, waiting out the rain. Then it would be back on trail to our next tent site.
Greetings Hungry Hiker, I found your channel yesterday (I know late to the party), loving the content, the friends you bring along for us to meet, and of course the amazing views along the trails. I'm currently planning my 1st thrugh hike of the JMT for the summer of 2023 for my 50th birthday present. Planning, buying, dreaming, and all the rest of the chaos started about 6 months ago. Obsession is normal word I use now when I think of gear, food, information, infustructor, planning of stops and zero days. Wow!! One can go crazy. But I keep telling myself even now well before I even take one step on trail, have fun, enjoy the ride, and make memories. Can't wait to see more of your adventures as well!!
Yes!! Enjoy every minute of it and try not to overplan your hike. I know I’ve been guilty of that with some of my own trips. The JMT is awesome. Probably my most favorite section of the entire PCT. I’d love to go back and do that one again. 😀
@@TheHungryHiker absolutely!! My planning is more on the lines of enjoying everyday, and not pushing too many miles in any given one day. However, taking into consideration of weather, accumulated potential of hard packed snow on the ground(can not controll or forsee the future). And yet still make the trip a challenge in itself without making it a leisurely stroll for several weeks.
Sending you lots and lots of luck on the lottery process. For me, the lottery is always the hardest and most stressful part of any trip that reads permit. 🤞🤞
@@TheHungryHiker Right!! I think im going to go the NOBO route. 2 lines of thought, 1 being a little easier to get permits for, 2 personal reason, I wanna end with the my favorite views The Almighty Yosemite Valley as I finish!!
@@maddmegg1 You'll have to Shazaam it. I honestly don't remember. All of my music comes from Epidemic Sound and I use A LOT of different songs in all of my videos. Do you have the Shazaam app? It's awesome. I'm always out and about and want to know what songs I'm hearing and this app tells me every single time. I love it.
Have yet to do a long trip like this. But I did running for years and know the feeling of a hot meal and cravings. I second the love of rangers. Another outstanding video. You either love peanut butter or you are wrong(or allergic)
Thank you! Mad respect for all the rangers out there. What can I say? I'm a very food motivated hiker..hence The Hungry Hiker, which was created while thru-hiking the PCT.
Why was the privy so far up the hill!? About halfway up to it I was thinking to myself, “This would be a great spot for it!” Also that climb out of Longmire to Paradise River Camp was deceptively harder than I thought it should be. It was also our 2nd to last day. Team Summerland!!! Can’t wait for your next videos. Thank you for letting me relive the hike.
That hike up to the privy at Paradise River was relentless, especially fir thing in the morning. Hahahaha! I agree. The climb out of Longmire felt harder than it needed to be. Probably because we had just picked up our food cache for the rest of the trip. I felt every ounce on that one.
So peanut butter? So many questions, all-natural(Laura Scudders) or processed(Skippy, Jif, etc)? Smooth or chunky? What about jelly/preserves? Me: Chunky Jif(currently), purple jelly then red or orange jelly/preserves on toasted bread, saltine crackers, spoon 🤣🤣💚🤣🤪
Any concerns about cooking and eating right in the middle of your campsite? You mention hanging the bear bags so there is that precaution. I’d be concerned about the lingering odors around the tents attracting rodents, if not bears.
We didn't have any issues with rodents at any of the tent sites. Even though we cooked near our camp (those tent sites were so small!), we were really meticulous about storing all of our food and scented items in our food bags and hanging them on the bear poles. The one time I had a problem with mice on trail was not on the Wonderland Trail and it was because I was lazy and left snacks in my tent. Never again!!

It's so beautiful out there along the Wonderland Trail.

5:06 That's a funny-looking tree or some species of water vine?? 🤔🤣🤣🤣
I believe that is the old pipe that sits along the trail. According to Guthook, the old pipe is no longer in use. 🤷♀️
You always pick good music! I like the peppy song in the last half of the video, something about a carousel.
Thank you! I try to always pick music that fits the mood of what I was feeling out on trail. 😀
Yes!!!! I need to know what that song is!?!?

You look super happy to be heading to Longmire.
That because I was! Food, root beer and a garbage can would be waiting for me there. 😀

Quite a few of the privies in MORA are up (or down) hills of various lengths. Probably because there isn't a lot of "flat" in the park.
@@jeffharper2866 oh I’m well aware. I hiked the Wonderland at the same time as these videos were posted. I was just commiserating 🤣
And probably because they want to keep the privies a good distance from the tentsites, for obvious reasons. 😂
Thanks "Famous"🙂

I prefer the crunchy, all natural Adams peanut butter, but when on trail, smooth Jiffy will do. Peanut butter in ramen!! Yum!!
@@TheHungryHiker yup peanut butter for the win!🤣🤣💚🤣🤣🍜

One of my greatest fears is using the open privy and someone walks up on me
I get that. Very valid fear. You just have to keep your eye out, be quick and when someone does come up, let them know you're there.
