Kahiko Hula (traditional Hula) was a sacred dance for worshipping Hawaiian Gods and it wasn't till the colonizers came to Hawai'i they taught that Hula was "demonic" which caused Queen Ka'ahumanu to ban the dance for decades (which isn't the only part of our culture that was banned later on) however the Hawaiian people still practiced hula just in private, later there was Auana Hula which is modern versions of hula which wasn't used for worshipping Gods, Auana Hula is the soft slow hula and also the upbeat hula which is the hula that's mostly appropriated and sexualized, Auana and Kahiko Hula is still very much practiced by Hawaiians today and there's a competition every year in Hawai'i called Merrie Monarch which is the most important Hula festival ever it's like the Hula Olympics, I'm part Hawaiian myself and I always get pretty disappointed when people appropriate my culture especially after it took decades for Hula to be unbanned like most of Hawaiian culture
