For someone who lives in germany where theres almost next to none of these it was a very cool showcase of arcade games. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences.
If you're ever out by the Chicago area in the US, look up Galloping Ghost arcade. It's the largest arcade in US as far as I know, they have something like over 800 games and it's absolutely insane. My husband and I went a couple years ago and it was an awesome experience for two people who grew up with arcades.
As someone who lives near the falls all I can notice is how visibly out of season this footage is which makes me think that this took months of editing
Given how much footage the guys had, of course it was gonna take a lot of time, and even then they were only able to knock it down to just under an hour and a half of video. Which is still impressive as heck.
It's so nice seeing you two having a nice time together out in the open. I hope you guys realize just how well your voices and perspectives work together, and it's good to see the friendship behind it all
Really great episode and it's really cool to see you guys so close to Western New York where I live. I miss the days of the arcades so much. Obviously there's still a few around but you know what I mean. Even that nationwide arcade called timeout that used to be in all the malls across the US! Time out was actually how I ever first got into tournaments in arcades! Merry Christmas yep ☃️🎄🦌🎁🎅🏼
While it was a nice showing of games and areas that I'm not likely to ever see, I wanted to say this just in case your not aware. I would assume you know about this but arcades do have mechanisms that are the dip switches. While they can control many things 1 of those factors that should be common in many games is difficulty. Since the purpose is to get that money, most machines are set at high levels but some high difficulties are definite coin guzzlers.
I wish we had more channels with “Bros hanging out and enjoying the history of something” vibe that you guys have with video games, this was a fantastic watch
this channel is incredibly underrated ..you guys have busted ass the last few years and yet still don't have the subs you deserve!! please keep this channel going I've learned so much from it!
Definitely very high on the list of TH-camrs that are actually underrated. Hivemind and Climate Town are the only other channels I can think of that’s as mind bogglingly low in subscriber counts compared to quality
They're basically the only major "angry reviewer" that's still relevant outside of AVGN, the rest either rebranded (ProJared and Caddicarus no longer focus on reviewing bad games) or focus on same games everyone knows, while Rerez manages to find obscure kusoge gems, like I AM AN EAGLE thing! Morphman? Still one of my fav videos of all time.
Man, I'm jealous. Here in Finland these kinds of arcade places are a rare sight. Places where there is arcade machines seem also bit random. Some hotels or gas stations may have one or two coin operated arcade games like "Sega Rally" or "Time Crisis", but mostly your best bet to find arcade machines to play is at amusement parks like "Linnanmäki" at Helsinki, Finland or "Särkänniemi" at Tampere, Finland.
Absolutely adored Skylon when I visited. Old-school arcades with all their machines intact are like a living museum, and it gets more and more awesome the longer they preserve these machines. Thanks, Tim! (It’s just a shame that the Galaxian^3 that was there is long gone. Was a 6-player arcade machine the size of a small movie theater.)
I was literally just thinking this totally gives Electric Playground aka Judgement Day vibes. Shane even kinda has a similar cadence to Victor sometimes (and no that doesn't mean Adam is Tommy Tallarico)
@@mikilumi I totally agree! I got this weird nostalgia feeling from the video, Shane definitely gives me Victor vibes, we'll just pretend Tommy doesn't exist 😂
I have to admit, this was a lot of fun! This was well shot and edited, we got to see your chronicles exploring arcade games from the new to the surprisingly still functional, and I learned a few new things. Seriously, seeing you guys react in delight at the moving Space Harrier and Galaxy Force cabinets was a highlight. I hope we get to see more stuff like this at some point. Maybe we take this to another city, or maybe we take a journey to uncover obscure gaming artifacts. Either way, I really liked this, and it seems like you guys did too! Keep up the good work!
Being a Senior tech at Dave and Busters, some of these old cabs you got to play make me jealous. A trip to the Canada side of the falls is now in order.
On 1 of our many visits to Niagara Falls, ON, we stumbled upon that lower level arcade in the Skylon Tower. I was absolutely ecstatic to see all the old-school arcade games. I had so much fun. It was almost like I had gone back in time to an arcade from the 1990's. I also spent way too much time and money there, much to the annoyance of my girlfriend. I highly recommend checking this arcade out if you are visiting the Clifton Hill area. The Skylon Tower also offers some of the cheapest and best all day parking around. I have to mention though, the last time I visited this arcade about a year and a half ago, they had way fewer arcade games, so it looks like they have recently been expanding their collection even more. Hopefully they will continue to do so.
22:54 - I run a small arcade in California, often when machines are left on overnight, especially in the summer, the heat will cause the coin chute to warp, allowing multiple coins to stack up side by side and jam in the machine. Most customers don't bother reporting jams anymore, if you're lucky and throw a coin in, you can knock one loose and get it back with your own. The more you know.
As someone who is endlessly fascinated by 90s and 2000s Arcade games, especially those by Sega and Konami, this video was a real Joyride for me, almost like a game of (Insert arcade racer game here).
This is a really good exploration of the greatest strengths and major drawbacks of arcade gaming. Being able to fine tune the machine’s design and controller for each game results in experiences you can’t quite replicate on general platforms like console and PC, but at the same time that same inability to replicate makes them difficult to come across and nearly impossible to repair. I also noticed at 6:32 that the cup full of tokens was placed on Harpoon Lagoon. I remember when me and my friend used to farm tickets by teaming up to hit the shark; one of us would hit one of the surrounding fish while the other aimed at the shark through the opening. It was one of my best arcade memories, but by the next year we visited it had disappeared (hopefully not because of its exploitability). The plight of the preservation of arcade games is a quiet tragedy.
You guys always have killer editing/production value. It carried over to outside of a studio too. P.S. The Time Crisis series are my favorite light gun games of all time. The foot pedal for cover combined with the slide cycling every shot makes them very imercive.
On PS1 the first game had extra campaign not in the arcades, but to have a proper experience, we put the second joystick on the ground to use it as makeshift foot pedal lol.
46:44 there's a Trilogy arcade machine at the Wunderland here in Oregon. Though it has a larger seat than the original. I actually loved playing it though so seeing that there I would have played it until I ran out of tokens.
I actually worked at the Rainforest Cafe in Niagara Falls USA side. We had to take care of the arcade as well as the resturant. The weekdays were slow in the arcade but during the weekend.....lets just say i need a drink after my shift!😅
I loved watching this. As somebody in Canada who goes to Clifton Hill once every year or so and has never gone into any of these arcades to truly experience them (only walking by or through them), seeing what they had on display was astounding. Skylon Tower especially, holy hell.
Not only is this a neat idea and lovely to see you guys hang out, but it's elevated by the goofy humour you guys have crafted in your other recent shows. Would adore another one or something similar if you want to.
If y’all are ever in Texas. Look for the game preserve. They are a type of arcade that has an absolutely insane number of old units, and it likes 15 dollars a person, and after you pay, you can play all you want
Wow what a fantastic tour. Thankyou so much guys. As an English person I'd have never known there were any arcades there let alone so many! They ought to be a protected species. The editing must've taken weeks.
Every so often whenever I go to an arcade I gotta try Space Invaders Frenzy at least once. Not only is it a pretty common machine where I am but nothing beats the feeling of blasting hoards of space invaders to get that final score and a mountain of tickets. Great video, very interesting to watch!
They absolutely did all those things they said they wouldn't do, they just didn't record it. Ain't NO WAY Shane got pulled away from those dinos that easy
I was in the Skylon basement as a child in the 1990's.They still have the escalators running down there, but I distinctly remember them having more games then.
This was such an awesome video! Thank you for letting us virtually through video accompany you guys through this awesome adventure. A lot of those games really brought me back to my childhood and early teenage years. You guys are awesome!
48:26 Yeah ManxTT was such a game, Got to play it a couple of times here in the UK where it's based on the Isle Of Man, Also got it for the SEGA Saturn after playing it at the airport with my Dad we had such a time on the Aracade machine, There is actually 2 versions of the Aracade machine that we found, There is a smaller version of the machine for smaller kids like I was at the time
As someone who frequents Niagara Falls (usually for for fallsview) its awesome to see such a great arcade seen. I have downloaded your maps and game lists to try and see if i can get to all of them the next time i am down.
I really loved this video! It nails the vibe of a proper television show you’d see on the Travel Channel but with a dash of Rerez humor. I really hope you do more of these at some point!
What an awesome trip! I was psyched to see that Afterburner machine actually work - my only experience with one was in Australia as an exchange student in 2001, and of course every time I watch T2. Lol. I NEED to visit Skylon Tower sonetime. I'm in CNY, just a few hours from Niagara Falls and I've got my passport on standby! Great Canadian Midway reminds me of Sports Plus, a similar high-ceiling arcade/rides/party place near where I grew up on Long Island which is long gone. Only place I've ever played that Simpsons game or Daytona USA, or even House of the Dead. Thanks for taking us on this trip with you! You're both great, but Adam is freaking hilarious on that dance machine 🤣 I freaking lost it, man
This is my favorite channel on TH-cam! I love Just Bad Games and the Worst Ever series, they are always hilarious, this long video was surprising and I loved it!
Man, this brings back high school memories lol Used to hit the local Mall every weekend with buddies and just hangout at the Arcades. I made some good friends at that Arcade.
Bust-A-Move has a screen made up of individual LED for pixels, right? I LOVE this arcade format, I've often seen it for Space Invaders and maybe Pac-Man? It's a clever revival method for games with the simplest graphics, though I haven't been able to play one myself. I'd like to wear shades if I'm to look at this screen for long because wow, it's BRIGHT!!
This episode makes me homesick. I grew up in Buffalo and spent A LOT of my time in the Clifton Hill area growing up. We'd go see the Falls, or go to Marineland, and always make a stop. I miss full capsule games, such as Afterburner and Outrun, that used to shake and move, or the sit down versions of games like Spy Hunter. Light gun games were always more fun with a partner. I was a huge fan of the Time Crisis series.
I can relate with the vacations at hand with extended family living up there in the Buffalo region myself. The Clifton Hill area is quite the hike up there if you aren't prepared for it. Guess that's why one should be thankful areas like the Great Canadian Midway exist, huh?
I visited here when I travelled over to Canada for ConBravo a few years back! I didn't really play any arcade games while at the Falls, but it was nice to see the sights. I still think fondly of my visit and the Con, and it was nice to meet you guys! Hope you're both doing well!
an hour an a half of arcade games... i love it... i haven't actually been to an arcade in a long ass time especially since arcades are a bit of a dying breed depending on where you live...
When I saw the video was almost an hour, and a half I thought there is no way I'll watch the whole thing I know my attention span. I was wrong I watched it all good job guy, fun video.
Really enjoyed this video guys. Was fascinating to see what cabinets you found in each location and has inspired me to get out and and about and see what arcades we have in Ireland that are still going !
Hoping to one day have a vacation back to Niagara Falls, I love to go check out the arcade at Skylon Tower. I only went there once when I was very small, but to see someone like Tim doing their best to maintain old classic arcade systems, I commend his efforts!
Cruisn usa is one of the more special games to me. I remember playing it in arcades a lot then had a sleepover at a friends house for his birthday and the n64 had just been released so his mom rented us a n64 from blockbuster in that big black briefcase they had their rentals in and we rented mario 64 and cruisn usa and i was blown away at mario for being 3d and so amazing but also blown away by cruisn just because it was a damn near perfect arcade port of one of my favorite arcade games. It was my first experience with the 64 and what seemed like a regular sleepover turned into a lifetime memory that i think back to often
I have watched this video at least a dozen times now and I have to say, I hope you continue this in other locations. It's always a treat seeing the different arcades still around. Awesome job.
If you guys can make the trip, I would highly recommend going to the Funspot in Laconia, NH. Massive arcade with three whole floors full of games, and an entire floor dedicated to classic arcade games and pinball machines. You guys would be absolutely amazed to see what kind of cabinets they have there.
Thanks for commenting this, I don't think I'm alone as a Rerez fan in dying to go there myself now that I know it exists! I'm in CNY so it's not super far away either. Weekend trip. I'm sure there's other stuff to do around there too.
I've actually been to Niagara Falls myself a couple of times. It's a little surreal to see the places there featured on the show, but I absolutely love it! One thing surprised me, though... Of all the places you went to and all the games you played... none of them were fighting games? To me, that feels like such a core part of any arcade experience that it's a bit omission to not be there.
Oh hey, Initial D Arcade Stage 4! It was thr last translated Initial D Arcade Stage game to hit North America, but after that, we couldn't be bothered to translate and localize every other release, nowafays when you see a new Arcade Stage fame, it's usually in thr bigger metropolitan areas, and everything is still in Japanese which turns dosn alot of people.
This.... is.... AWESOME! Really great work tracking down and then showcasing these arcades. Not sure the next time I'll be in upstate NY (the last time I was, you could cross the border with just a driver's license) but iyll be sure to keep this video in mind.
This is all so nostalgic. I grew up in Buffalo NY, right on the other side of the river and rubbing shoulders with the Falls itself. We used to head up there every so often, not for the falls, it's mundane for locals, no. It was for the shopping, for the food, and for the experience of all the other stuff. And the Casino when that got built, but only the once. The arcade experience back in the late 90's and early 2000's was something else. Glad it's still thriving.
As a Canadian that grew up with Electronic Playground, the 2 person stand up reviews in public places like after the first arcade took me way back to better days lol
If you ever come to NJ, look for Billy's Midway Arcade. It's a by the hour joint with many classic cabinets and pinball. Lots of retro stuff. Also, there's the Lucky Snake at the Showboat in Atlantic City. Largest arcade in that area, on a former Casino floor.
Kept having this memory accidently stumbling upon a random empty arcade on a family trip as a kid around 15 years ago or more. Turns out it was the Skylon arcade and it seems like its barely changed. I spent atleast an hour feeding quarters itno that desert tank machine and racing Super TT with my cousin. Thanks for completing that memory guys!
Darke escape 40 was probably one of my favorite cabinets I've ever played so far. I was super sad when our local Dave & Buster's got rid of it for whatever reason. Also the Terminator cabinet is a total quarter muncher. I played it during free play days and I have not been able to memorize how to avoid getting hit in some circumstances multiple times throughout the game.
Interesting info and the Fun Zone on Clifton Hill, it has actually gone through a few new name and general changes. Before becoming the Fun Zone it was a Captain Jack's Pirate's Cove, and before that it was an actual Dave & Busters that took up the entire building with multiple floors.
I'm weirdly obsessed with Skylon Tower's perpetually stuck-in-the-90s aesthetic. It's incredible. And with the abundance of Sega games there, I honestly wonder if the Skylon arcade was some sort of Sega-sponsored arcade in its heyday.
my eyes didn't deceive me then lol I wonder if he took a go on the space harrier and afterburner machines, He probably already had a go on the space harrier one in Japan with Peter Campbell which was in good shape as well. Those that may be reading that don't know who Adam Sipione is need to check out FauxPop Media's A Gamer's Journey : The Definitive History of Shenmue documentary ;) Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the Rerez crew keep up the great work :)
FYI: Tim just let us know today that After Burner & Space Harrier have been upgraded to LCD screens.

You're both great, but Adam is freaking hilarious on that dance machine 🤣 I freaking lost it, man
I'm a former CNY'er, never went to the falls as much as I wanted to... which after seeing this video, is something I regret even more now!
I just watched this video again, omg its so qualiy and fun, everything is perfect
This is a really cool episode I really like the travel show vibe of this.
I believe this system design has three or four different versions that exists. My team and I would love to see them all!
I'm really sad that Tim didn't get some screen time! I'd love to see the passion he must have for those games ❤
Tim asked not to be on camera but we really wanted to make sure we talked about him in the video!
@@rerez That's too bad! I hope he gets to see the video at least, and the comments so that he can see how many fans he has 😁
That was a really fun video to watch. The editing was top tier. love you guys
Reminds me of the gamecenter CX “northern most gamecenter” episode
Omg I’m from the Falls! Wish I knew u guys were here!
Cool video :)
It's a great place! We go there all the time. You'll probably find us around the Arcades if you're looking.
I'd totally love to see you guys tackle a place like Japan!
As someone who lives in Niagara Falls, this was cool to see nice to see people enjoy the city
Looks like a nice city you got there, even without the falls themselves
Hey, ive been to Fun Zone! I was hoping you would mention it. Cool video thank you! Very thorough
This gives me Reviews on the Run/Judgment Day vibes. Great video.
You guys videos are gold. Congratz
It's so darn cool to see so many arcades thriving, old and new!
This.... is.... AWESOME! Really great work tracking down and then showcasing these arcades. Not sure the next time I'll be in upstate NY (the last time I was, you could cross the border with just a driver's license) but iyll be sure to keep this video in mind.
Talk about refreshing! This is a great video guys! I really enjoyed it!
The original arcade of Space Harrier❤
The game that started my eternal love for Videogames in the 80s.
No...I'm...I'm not crying, sniff... WAAAA !! 🥲
As a Canadian that grew up with Electronic Playground, the 2 person stand up reviews in public places like after the first arcade took me way back to better days lol
indiana jones for gamers
If you ever come to NJ, look for Billy's Midway Arcade. It's a by the hour joint with many classic cabinets and pinball. Lots of retro stuff.
Also, there's the Lucky Snake at the Showboat in Atlantic City. Largest arcade in that area, on a former Casino floor.
This is good tier gaming content and i cannot thank you folks enough for taking the time to film and produce this. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
What an AMAZING feature! watching this on Christmas Day here in the Philippines, and you've given me so much joy. It's a highlight of my holiday!
Seeing my home pop up in my subscriptions was a wild and fun treat! Lived here my entire life and now have a good amount of places to check out!
ngl i didn't expect a video like this, but i always watch your videos and/or sometimes just binge-watch your videos
Love to see this kinda content!
49:47 I was addicted to this game as a kid way back in the day I swear xD
Interesting info and the Fun Zone on Clifton Hill, it has actually gone through a few new name and general changes. Before becoming the Fun Zone it was a Captain Jack's Pirate's Cove, and before that it was an actual Dave & Busters that took up the entire building with multiple floors.
I'm weirdly obsessed with Skylon Tower's perpetually stuck-in-the-90s aesthetic. It's incredible.
And with the abundance of Sega games there, I honestly wonder if the Skylon arcade was some sort of Sega-sponsored arcade in its heyday.
This is a fantastic look into modern day arcades. Awesome video, a ton of effort went into this and it shows!
43:15 that looks like Adam Sipione
It is! Adam Sipione was running around with the camera capturing all of this!
my eyes didn't deceive me then lol I wonder if he took a go on the space harrier and afterburner machines, He probably already had a go on the space harrier one in Japan with Peter Campbell which was in good shape as well.
Those that may be reading that don't know who Adam Sipione is need to check out FauxPop Media's A Gamer's Journey : The Definitive History of Shenmue documentary ;)
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the Rerez crew keep up the great work :)
