You t tat one right on the money sang it with so much soul hm and Whitney are tops in my book I would of like to see them 2 do it together but God had other plans I guess?😟🍺🍺
The only rendition of this song I've ever heard that had the crowding clapping in unison. Only Marvin could "take you to church" doing this song. Indescribable soul...
when I first say this.. I immediately said hold up... this is the national anthem... people normally are quiet ir singing along... Marvin had people clapping.. this was a concert lol
And the thing is they're are so many brainwashed and misconstrued out there in society that need to be refreshed on its value! Let Marvin singing it lead the way like only he could! Wow, he nailed it and I vividly remember his rendition as if it we're yesterday! I was 11 at the time and was watching that live! Oh and btw to all those brainwashed and misconstrued, Marvin Gaye had representation of everyone in the world! He was all about the American people getting along and when he sang the anthem that day you could feel it with each word!
Yes I agree... I cannot hold my tears for the second evening in row I'm listening to this performance. And I'm in Holland, not even Americain ;-) So talented, soulfull, moving. Marvin Gay, always touching the heart ❤❤❤
Can't count the times I've listened to Marvin's version; won't ever stop either ... We in Detroit are still so proud he was part of Motown's legendary lineup. Wish his life could've been happier and longer. Love you, Marvin...thank you for best anthem version EVER! RIP, brother...🙏😍
What a stumble on this on the Fourth of July. I never knew this existed. He just ripped a tear in the time space continuum with that version and over a sick Casio beat
Marvin Gaye was a prophet! Listen to the "What's going on" album, He's singing about what is going on today and the album is over fifty years old. He told Smokey that GOD wrote the "What's going on album.
This is the best version with the full intro and no Barry Gordy (?) talking over it. Goose bumps since I first heard it 30 years ago. This is MY National Anthem
@@raymondmeyers8983 Naw bro, you in the minority. Marvin, says hold my Champaign. I have heard both and Marvin's rendition is Iconic. Your guy was ok..but come on.
Incredible! A SOULFUL handclapping version of the Anthem. I have never seen a version before or since like that one. You could see the players trying hard not to sway to the music. There was nothing classy or crass about the rendition at all. There are only two other singers I can think of who might’ve turned in a version like that. Sam Cooke or Jackie Wilson. That is, without the self promoting pyrotechnics. Just amazing.
I’ve never closed my eyes to this song, until I heard Marvin Gaye. I’ve heard people cheer for this song as it’s sung but never like this, it’s as if they just heard a new song that caught them by surprise.
I remember watching this game. I was 9 years old. 3rd/4th grade. Snow/blizzard outside. In the living room by myself. Mama and pops in the back in bedroom. Even then I knew it was something different and nothing I had or probably ever would see again. And yes I was a child and still knew that
Marvin was "live." Whitney was pre-recorded and lip-synced, so her version could have been tweeked, edited, and/or re-recorded. No competition here ..."live" is better than pre-recorded.
Marvin Gaye could sing anything and it would be the best it’s ever been he was truly Blessed with an Excellent amazing Anointed voice given to him from God may he rest in peace❤❤❤🙏
One of my all-time favorite singers, Extraordinary talent. Glad to find --and savor --this after all these years, RIP, Marvin. Your may be gone, but your voice lives forever.
Both of you are so blessed. He made everyone change the style of singing this. But in my humbled opinion (bias DC native, besties with his niece) he sang it better than any that followed.
Today February the 13th 2022 super bowl halftime I'm missing you Marvin I was pregnant with my first son when you performed something so beautiful and until this date I never had the same feelings so I do something is great is about to happen or something horrible but I'm asking to heavenly creator of my being to protect and cover my family my bloodline and all others are in a line with love empathy and compassion peace.
In an interview recorded in 1983 before his "Sexual Healing" tour, when asked about his rendition of the National Anthem, he said he asked God to help him "move men's soul's" I guess he succeeded.
Man, you could tell the ladies were doing all they could to not throw their drawers and phone numbers on the court during this remix...LMBO!!! Respect and RIP to the Sexual Healer.

THE GOAT MARVELOUS MARVIN GAYE. WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID. RIP MY LOVING BROTHER, YOU ARE SO MISSED.BUT YOUR LEGACY AND YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON.😔🙏🙏🎶🎶.
Only Marvin Gaye could turn a 1 minute song into a 3 minute song and everyone be okay with that.
I Pull this version up every now and then, just to Hear Marvin throw DOWN 🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎!!!
The only rendition of this song I've ever heard that had the crowding clapping in unison. Only Marvin could "take you to church" doing this song. Indescribable soul...

I get chills every time I listen to this that man could’ve sang the alphabets and I’d still feel the same way
Never seen singer make love to the National Anthem like Marvin. He charmed the entire stadium, audience was clapping and everything. Instant classic.
Best one ever because he made it his own.

Georgie tried to in 2018 and she wasn't successful.
The sexiest national anthem I've ever heard
Marvin was always original...this version shows why he was a genius.

40 YEARS. Oh my. The late, great Marvin Gaye! Still and always the greatest rendition in US history
