The styling is much better on this and that front does look pretty good. Will consider this car when it come around to replacing my current daily driver. Hope to see the Chaps back together soon. I have just ordered a new Excel Touring sport 2.0l with Pan roof to replace my BMW 320I (2012). I took my wife's Aygo in for a service and requested a test drive because I was impressed by the interior quality and looks. I was amazed at how smooth, frugal and spacious it was. Hi. I've tested a 2020 Corolla TS 2.0 Hybrid last week and I was very impressed by how the car drives. I then checked out couple of reviews and this great review in particular helped me decide that this will be our next family car. It has only 23000km and a great color called oxide-bronze. @@TwoChapsMotoring just an update on my previous comment. Took delivery of my new Corolla TS 2.0 (I’m black) and all I can say is wow. All the room toys and performance anyone will even need for a daily driver I can honestly say after toying with going to the German side of motoring I fell in love at first drive! Thoroughly excellent car.
@@TwoChapsMotoring Interesting about the wheels. I like the look of the 18", but will take advice. Being an old codger now I used to take Mini's apart in my 20's and still have my original socket set and torque wrench with AF and Metric. So I know a wee bit about motors. Today with engine management and codes its all Greek to me, but I can still service a Metro, if you have one!
I have the 2019 version of this car, and the recent Car Play update to the infotainment (much improved!), but I don't get anywhere near mileage. Usually low 50's. Once or twice I've achieved low 60's, but only on short journeys when the battery happens to be well charged, but I also often see only high 40's, especially in the winter. I don't have a heavy right foot, I don't know what I do wrong, or whether the car's not quite right. I've asked Toyota about it and they say it's normal. Still, like you, I love the car. It just doesn't do *quite* the advertised mileage.
I have to literally drive like a vision impaired pensioner to get 60+ I did manage it last week down to Devon and back. It's a good car. The 2.0 gives loads of response when needed.... but the gearbox has started winding me up
mind blowing why they don't offer this in the US. toyota is making a mistake with stigma that american's hate wagons and love sedans. crossover and small SUVs dominate the market here because they can't get it through their head that more wagons are needed.
It would go down an absolute storm in the states i just know it! If us brits can make it, you guys can too for goodness sake. Maybe I'll have words with the toyota team here
A good review. You are obviously very enthusiastic about the car. I drove one the other day very briefly and it was a nice drive. Didn't really get much of a chance to test it out properly. I'd like to know from people who own the 2.0l version, what mpg can I expect doing 70mph on a 100 mile run?
Excellent review, subbed. :) I have a 2.0 GR Sport Hatchback (had it since June) and im absolutely loving it. Sure the boot is about as large as my previous Mazda 2 but I dont have a family and associated luggage to carry about so its plenty for the weekly shop etc. I completely agree on how it drives esp in 2.0 form, the car is just so relaxing and comfortable yet has excellent handling and more than enough grunt to have some fun with.
@@TwoChapsMotoring Yeah the alloys are black with a machined silver edging on the wheel spokes so I chose the Bi-Tone Pearl Silver combo which matches the wheels perfectly. The HUD is fantastic and its brightness and positioning is very customisable, having that means the central dash (I use the three blue rings option) is left showing the power mode usage and eco score :)

I love everything about this car and I'm seriously considering swapping my Seat Ateca for it but for one small but important niggle, there's no ski hatch in it, why not? I've never been skiing and don't intend to but this feature is so practical even if just for carrying a length of timber. For me though, the everyday use for it is so that I can have the dog in the load area in his carry-cage and he can see us in the cabin of the car (and we can tell him to shut up if needed), he's not left in darkness with the parcel shelf in place and basically we're all happy. Surely it wouldn't cost Toyota much to do it but the lack of the hatch may force me to look elsewhere.
Just discovered this channel. Very useful video as I'll he changing my car soon and was deciding whether to get one of these, or another Leon estate. The only thing that puts me off slightly, is that literally ever private taxi where I live has a Corolla 😅

It's a solid car. Its missing a few nice things the BMW had. Like warning about the low washerfluid , and which tyre pressure is low. But she drives very well the 2.0 litre. I'm thinking of keeping it. I get around 50mpg out if a 2 litre petrol which I think is pretty good

I too got the 2.0L early this year and it feels peppy af. Overtaking, merging and just general driving is trouble free experience. The paddle shifters... err, yeah what a silly addition in this powertrain but ok :D One thing caught my eye though. The lack of AHS headlights option is a bit strange though.
The paddles do come in quite handy when im going for a blast as I live on the edge of the Peak District and for when you want to keep the engine on the boil they work well. However in every other scenario they are pretty much useless.
@@TwoChapsMotoring Red although I was a little disappointed on two fronts, that as in the EU you couldn't specify a black roof with the Touring Sports (only on the hatch) and that you couldn't even specify the auto boot with the GR S, you had to go either Trek or Excel. I've got a 2014 BMW 2014 320d touring, and get around 50mpg. It's done 20K in 6.5 years and, as you've done, I'm thinking of a Toyota Corolla estate. So you can be assured I found you review very informative and helpful. However what I would have liked, instead of the Werther's distraction, was a bit more information, e.g. Does it have USB outlets in the back and boot, is the USB outlet in the front, which you used to connect a phone, the only outlet in the front. Is there one on the dash for a windscreen camera, or do you have to use a multi USB socket hanging out of the dash? And a bit of time showing the Satnav screen which looks a bit jaded. and what it looks like if you Zoom in and out. Many thanks Noel
Thanks for your comments Noel. Their is a sat nav walk-through on our page for the corolla.... so head over there for that... there are NO USB ports anywhere else but in the front of the car. One under the dash for using android auto. And i think the only other one, is under the armrest in the centre. But i will double check tomorrow morning

Hi. I've tested a 2020 Corolla TS 2.0 Hybrid last week and I was very impressed by how the car drives. I then checked out couple of reviews and this great review in particular helped me decide that this will be our next family car. It has only 23000km and a great color called oxide-bronze. The deal is done and now we're waiting the dealership to prepare our car and deliver it sometime next week. Thank you Andy once again for this review and greeting from Sweden.

@@TwoChapsMotoring Interesting about the wheels. I like the look of the 18", but will take advice. I love my Yaris hybrid I've managed 99.9+ MPG on short journeys, I will probably upgrade to the Corolla Touring sports as I need more space
Sod that.... upgrade to the GR yaris hahaha
Have a Corolla Touring Sports myself and agree with all the positive comments about it in this review.
Ah thanks !
I get around 55mpg at 70.
Managed 60mpg and 50 mpg on different trips so it's about how heavy your foot is !
Can you get a full size spare wheel in the boot?
Excellent review, subbed. :)
I have a 2.0 GR Sport Hatchback (had it since June) and im absolutely loving it.
You got the GR?? That means you got the cool alloys and the HUD is that right? Man. I am a teency bit jealous
@@mikesanders5433 I've always loved that look. Great taste. Don't forget you can win a set of spanners in our current competition check out the video on our page, don't forget to send a photo of your ride !

Wish we had this option in the US.
Do you guys not get it? That sucks dude
Be happy, it runs only on premium fuel (eu RON95)
Good car. Good review! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it ! Thanks!

Two Chaps d’oh, 🤦♂️ thanks for that.
nice review, at what speed you think the gas engine kicks in?
I think it looks pretty cool 😎. How does it compare to BMW touring? I’m really fancying a self charging hybrid.
It's a solid car. Its missing a few nice things the BMW had. Like warning about the low washerfluid , and which tyre pressure is low. But she drives very well the 2.0 litre. I'm thinking of keeping it. I get around 50mpg out if a 2 litre petrol which I think is pretty good
@@AndysMGAdventures I’d miss tyre pressure display. It’s very handy for spotting punctures early. I like my cars to have 4 wheel drive too. Which I think I’d miss.

Sound choice!
Not sure to be pleased or depressed about your description of "if you're trying to replace your (boring) family estate with something efficient and a bit 'fun'" but it's like you were reading my mind. Off to Carwow
Couldn't agree more on all fronts ! Paddles are a gesture i guess. But yeah 2.0 litre best of both worlds, economy and flat out power when needed.
The paddles do come in quite handy when im going for a blast as I live on the edge of the Peak District and for when you want to keep the engine on the boil they work well. However in every other scenario they are pretty much useless.
I use the flappy paddles to engine brake. Like 'B' Mode on the 1.8, only more regen.
Getting the 2.0 GR sport variant of this car and looking forward to Hybrid driving. I Like you spent a lot of time deciding. Thanks for a good review
I very nearly popped for that trim.... what colour did you choose in the end?
@@TwoChapsMotoring Red although I was a little disappointed on two fronts, that as in the EU you couldn't specify a black roof with the Touring Sports (only on the hatch) and that you couldn't even specify the auto boot with the GR S, you had to go either Trek or Excel. If leather seats, might be an idea to use some leather cleaner and/or conditioner? Might well keep those cracks from forming!
Great vid! I've just put an order in for one in GR Sport guise. I currently have a Puma ST, and whilst it's such a good planted car, and sounds great, its also a VERY thirsty car! Took one for a test drive earlier in the week, and was blown away by the EV to Engine switch, it was addictive. And whilst it can't match the speed and character of the Puma, it certainly has its own quirks and charisma. Can't wait to get it (5 month wait) - Subbed

Thanks for this great review. I am on my 11th Toyota having had new versions of the Camry Mk IV and Corollas right from 1980. Currently have a '67 plate Avensis Design, which is awesome.
@@TwoChapsMotoring Hi.

I'm being offered a Corolla 1.8 Touring Sports Excel as a company car to replace my 2.0 TDi Octavia SE Technology estate. I know the Toyota is going to be slower (booo 😞 ), but it appears much better equipped. What I'm wondering is what your real world fuel costs are? How many miles does it do to a full tank on average? Does this car has the traditional CVT with pulleys or does it have the e-cvt with the planetary gearbox?
CVT - i think when you're accelerating hard is the moment you don't mind a bit of noise anyway. question: what do the wheel paddle thingies do if it's a continuous gearbox? does it just pick certain ratios to mimic a conventional box?
Whilst a CVT gearbox is almost one long gear. The paddles help the driver to manually shift the car into a higher or lower RPM. This can help with engine braking, or finding the power band when you need it up a hill or for a more involving drive
