I wish there wasn't so much pressure on women to be skinny in the ballet world but I think Zenaida looks fabulous. Thank God my teachers growing up were supportive of all different body types and made sure we were eating!
what?? I mean of course there is pressure but I assumed they would be an emphasis on being fit since ballet would require strength , I guess, bit I guess im not too surprised either.
Yes, since ballet is an aesthetic art they look for certain body types and if you dance 8-10 hours a day professionally, you're naturally going to stay lean and fit. However, some ballet masters can be very harsh and call dancers out if they don't think they are thin enough or start to put on weight. They are especially strict in this way in certain serious ballet schools in Russia. It's actually really sad to hear the stories of some ballerinas who developed disordered eating habits or became obsessed with the way they looked because of what they were told in training.
honestly she looked pretty fucking skinny - just tall. They are incredibly strong though. I don't know how they can be that strong and so underweight. It's like they're made of nothing but muscle.
The costumes and set design are simply sublime here, and I love how Odile keeps returning to Rothbart for instruction - something you don't often see in an Odile Pas de Deux.
Zenaida Yanowsky has such an amazing stage presence, she acts as she dances. Her as the red queen in Alice in wonderland was a master piece. I admire her so much and she was a great inspiration for my black swan this season
I’ve always believed the black swan wanted everyone to see that SHE was dancing WITH prince Siegfried , the white swan want the prince to see HER Odette is in her own world when she’s with him, a world just for the two of them But Odile’s world is just a show

Cierra Tyler have you seen the ballet? The antagonist, Rothbart(?, unsure how exactly to spell his name) has a daughter named Odile. The prince, Siegfried, fell in love with Odette, but Rothbart wants his daughter to marry the prince, so he disguised her as Odette so that the prince can fall in love with her instead. I’m very unsure as to how you just got “bad guy” out of this.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the set in this? It looks so beautiful. Respect to whoever built it. Also, breathtaking music and graceful dancing. They make it look so easy when it really isn't. She looks lighter than a feather. Great job.
I love how flexible she is, and how strong she looks! It's hard to find a ballerina these days that doesn't look like a walking twig. She really does do an amazing job
How beautiful is this performance to watch. This Pas De Deux c'est magnifique, such fluid movement between the beautiful ballerina who danced as the black swan, Odile and rothbart, the enchanter, simply magical and well performed. Fluid, excellent movement and beautiful poise and grace, great and perfect form, this is absolutely mesmerising to watch. Dance is such an underrated art form, and should be appreciated more.
I remember this exact performance. It was the first ballet I saw as I admired Zenaida. This was all the way back in 2012 and I have been in total love since. The last performance I went to at the ROH was Don Quixote on the 29th when Marianela and Thiago had to take over Natalia and Matthew. They both owned their roles and the atmosphere the live orchestra creates with the beautiful music is priceless. I look forward to seeing many more fantastic productions!
As beautiful as this section of the ballet is, I always want to HIT Siegfried for being gullible enough to fall for Rothbart's trick. Yes, I know that Rothbart has enchanted Odile so that she LOOKS like Odette...but does she ACT anything like Odette??? NO -- she doesn't. I mean, honestly -- you'd think that might have clued the boy in! Really, one is almost inclined to think that perhaps the kingdom might actually be better off in the long run with Siegfried removed from the line of succession if he's as easily deceived as that...
That's actually a whole point in favor of Zenaida's acting in my opinion. Dancers who play up the whole 'evil bad girl' aspect are missing the point. She is supposed to be acting very similarly to Odette, but that is hard to do while still acting in a Black Swan way.
This is probably going to sound like a poor excuse, but if Rothbart has the power to transform Odette into a swan and enchant Odile to look like Odette, he probably has the power to exert some kind of mind control on Siegfried. Or at least use his magic to distract him in some way.
If you notice at some moments she does some "sweet" and "romantic" movements. But its very subtle. We know that she is in fact mocking the way Odette moves. But the prince thinks that she IS Odette ;) I dont know if the prima in this production does those movements but I remember an old production with Zakharova in La Scala who did some similar moves like she was mocking Odette in a way.

I own some 10+ versions of Swan Lake. It has been my favorite since 1951. This version is at the top of my list by far. However, the one I got from the ROH as part of a collection of ballets, must be of a different performance. I was disappointed in this, as I think the Clip on TH-cam is a superior offering for all three principals. This is the best Rothbart i’ve seen, performed by principal dancer Christopher Saunders. As for Siegfried being “duped” - isn’t that the point of the story ?? - Don’t forget that under the Soviet Union, politics overruled art. The rulers dictated that no Russian art work should have an unhappy ending- and thus you can find performances with a ‘happy’ resolution. Try them and see if they provide an aesthetic feeling of resolution. If it so happens, goody for you.
The performance was magical. The girl did a great job in execution every move with so much grace. But it really were her expressions which touched my heart. I loved it so much.
On the same for the last few months and I have been having to a it for the some for the same amount but the other two will so May Dec and for my money will go 🚶♂️ out the rest is a place I can afford the money to be paid for the same amount and pay by August of July so that they may have August and the September and friends to London and the same as for one we can get to bed before and family will not have a place in mind and friends to stay with us and family for a birthday present for her birthday present for her birthday present for her birthday present for her 222 birthday
The partner was so swift and so seamless when carrying her across the stage the transitions were sooooooo SMOOTHHHHHH it’s like you could put a teapot on her head and none of it would spill 😂
Everyone’s talking and Naida but can we also talk about Miah? He’s amazing here to, perfect I dare say. They were both meant for odile/odette and siegfried, meant for each other in this. Miah put in quite a lot into his expressions which was what made me think, “His expressions are worth dying over.”
I think this is such a beautful version of swan lake. The dancers have amazing dancing and have so much emotion and dance amazingly, and the set design is also amazing as well as the music
All of the characterizations and costuming are beautiful, of course, and the dancing is phenomenal, but seriously, that Von Rothbart is fascinating to me! it's an unconventional design for him, but it works well!
THAT's what looked "off" to me! I didn't want to be negative, but I kept looking at her and tilting my head and saying, "She's stunning... but something is 'off'". I'm happy to see a broader range of body types and colors, too.
Really? I was always under the impression that it was the petite girls had the problems because there can't be too much of a height difference between partners. If she's too much shorter, they don't "fit" together right.
The pad de feud is beautiful, her acting as odile/black swan is rlly spontaneous, she acts so youthful around the queen and guests, and she leaves the prince wanting more as they dance.
Watching happily...then realises, It’s Zenaida! *Finds a bigger screen, nose almost touching, just to watch her more closely! I’ve adored her since seeing The Winter’s Tale, and her fabulously comical portrayal of the Red Queen in ‘Alice’.
I absolutely love how Gary Avis “controlled” Odile in this version and their sinister little glances. I missed this in the new Liam Scarlett version. It’s the only thing that I do miss.
Being a ballerina was my biggest dreams. But due to my family I couldn't pursue it. I belong from a very strict family who do not approve anything related to dance and music. Now I'm 18 and still watching these videos. Though they make me sad but a hint of pleasure is what always brings me back💗
When she's not sitting in Putin's parliament supporting homophobia and the invasion of Ukraine! The woman is a monster - and a horrible actress to boot.
I was going to make a joke about how Natalie Portman died for this, but goddammit, her momevents were so precise yet free! As if there was no coreography to follow, as if she was dancing unbound and happened to move magnificenr every single time!
Just watched several different performances of this pas de deux - I must say that whilst all the dancers I've seen (zakharova, lamb & mcrae, osipova & golding) are great, of course, there is something so special about the pairing of Zenaida & Nehemiah - the chemistry, their artistic expression and the way they move together..it just blows me away every time! Zenaida is such a wonderful Odile - so expressive, seductive, cunning and perfectly poised, and it's incredible how she separates the two characters! I adore how she interacts with both Nehemiah's Siegfried & Rothbart - her acting skills are incredible! Nehemiah as well, his adoring attitude, the way he worships her with his posture - yet never quite as soft and gentle as he is with Odette... Such a contrast to the soft & loving scenes of Odette/Siegfried, in the best way possible.

They valued her hugely!
⤴️😊
The partner was so swift and so seamless when carrying her across the stage the transitions were sooooooo SMOOTHHHHHH it’s like you could put a teapot on her head and none of it would spill 😂
I wish they had put this version of Swan Lake with Zenaida and Nehemiah on DVD because I just love their performance so much!
Agree... Up
Everyone’s talking and Naida but can we also talk about Miah? He’s amazing here to, perfect I dare say. They were both meant for odile/odette and siegfried, meant for each other in this. Miah put in quite a lot into his expressions which was what made me think, “His expressions are worth dying over.”
You are right: this was a magnificent partnership - Zenaida Yanowsky and Nehemiah Kish.
@@elizzy8754 Miah is too underrated, i can find almost nothing on him
I think this is such a beautful version of swan lake. The dancers have amazing dancing and have so much emotion and dance amazingly, and the set design is also amazing as well as the music
Amazing performance! It was breathtaking! The acting was on point
*en pointe 😂😂😂
Are you alive
One of my favorite things about the royal ballet is the set design. Always absolutely gorgeous!
All of the characterizations and costuming are beautiful, of course, and the dancing is phenomenal, but seriously, that Von Rothbart is fascinating to me! it's an unconventional design for him, but it works well!
Extraordinaria ejecución! Me falto la entrada mágica!
I adore this act so much! Even the Black Swan is so beautiful!
they are finally excepting taller women into dance academies , I might actually have a chance by the time I'm old enough
THAT's what looked "off" to me! I didn't want to be negative, but I kept looking at her and tilting my head and saying, "She's stunning... but something is 'off'". I'm happy to see a broader range of body types and colors, too.
1000 miles Start young.
Really? I was always under the impression that it was the petite girls had the problems because there can't be too much of a height difference between partners. If she's too much shorter, they don't "fit" together right.
1000 miles ?? They have always preferred tall longer legged girls.
Um no. They always prefered tall women. As a ballerina I wish i was taller because in ballet being tall is beautiful.
This is not easy as we watch! All your labour speaks out how much you have worked!
It's so pretty... And she's so amazing ❤
The costumes and the dancing, and the music is spectacular...
Round of applause for the spectacular stage setup, costumes, and music! Good lord. :D
I don't understand so much about ballet but I'm really enthralled by her dance moves.
This was so perfect!! I always love and enjoy watching Royal Ballet videos.
Breathtaking. Really, the plot is so nicely done and the execution is on point! The black swan seems as light as a paper when she dances! ❤️
I never get bored to watch this. Her dancing is truly beautiful and I love the song.
It is NOT a song !!!!
The pad de feud is beautiful, her acting as odile/black swan is rlly spontaneous, she acts so youthful around the queen and guests, and she leaves the prince wanting more as they dance.
so beautiful, they make it all look so effortless
It's so beautiful and the dancers are amazing !!!
la mejor escenografía que he visto del cisne negro, vestuarios hermosos y trabajo perfecto de los bailarines. Hermoso. de las mejores versiones
The music ❤️ the dancer ❤️ the costumes ❤️ Everything
Watching happily...then realises, It’s Zenaida! *Finds a bigger screen, nose almost touching, just to watch her more closely! I’ve adored her since seeing The Winter’s Tale, and her fabulously comical portrayal of the Red Queen in ‘Alice’.
Ah yes! I didn't recognise her as the queen! her characterisation is so different! What an amazing dancer
Ahhh!! I love the way she move!! ❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely love how Gary Avis “controlled” Odile in this version and their sinister little glances. I missed this in the new Liam Scarlett version. It’s the only thing that I do miss.
She looks fabulous makes it seem so effortless
Simply a choreographic masterpiece. someday I hope to create a ballet like this.
I love "Swan Lake" so much! It was - is - and will be my favourite Ballet ever!
i love how the black swan grabs onto rothbart. it kinda reminds me of a bird perching on someone's arm.
Ik this is about the dancing and all (and it was on point) but OMG THAT MUSIC IS SO BEAUTIFUL
0:43 - 0:53 is so beautiful!!! I absolutely love her tutu!! In fact, the whole costume design and set is amazing in Swan Lake :)
The setting and the costumes are incredible, yet the dance!
I love the part at about 3:50ish where she sort of falls and the music changes. I love it so much.
Being a ballerina was my biggest dreams. But due to my family I couldn't pursue it. I belong from a very strict family who do not approve anything related to dance and music. Now I'm 18 and still watching these videos. Though they make me sad but a hint of pleasure is what always brings me back💗
Watching ballet really makes me wish I stuck with it. Silly 7 year old me and the chronic stage fright...
ME TOO
I do not watch ballet that much, but this is the best I have ever seen. The movement of dancers is very soft.
came here because of jikooks performance and i just wanna say that this performance is lovely as well 🥰💗
I'm going to miss this production, the scenarios and costumes are stunning
Wow, this is breathtaking!
I’m sorry but I love those costumes! Especially the black swan’s it seems so magical and I especially love the head piece
I think that Zenaida and Gillian Murphy do the most convincing and beautiful Odiles!
+Warrendoe Totally agree, but have to add Nunez. Gillian's fouettes, there are no words.
+Judy N I totally agree with you about Marianela...her Odile is so damn sexy! She literally hypnotises Siegfried with her sensuality.
Svetlana is the best Odile!
When she's not sitting in Putin's parliament supporting homophobia and the invasion of Ukraine! The woman is a monster - and a horrible actress to boot.
Is a monster like Alicia Alonso, but they are amazing dancers.
What a gorgeous stage! Magnificent dancing. Very touching.
I was going to make a joke about how Natalie Portman died for this, but goddammit, her momevents were so precise yet free! As if there was no coreography to follow, as if she was dancing unbound and happened to move magnificenr every single time!
Beautiful, just beautiful , ballet dance, down to costumes to backdrop. Love it.
When I watch this I remember why I fell in love with ballet.
I loved the staging, the dialogue with the music...this is wonderful...
I have never been interested in ballet but quarantine led me here and now Im a sucker for ballet and classics
I loved so much this Pas de Deux, absolutely amazing! But there's something on her pointe shoes I don't like. Maybe it's not helping her
Full version please?? 😁the stage and dress is so beautiful and the ballerinas and ballerinos dancing is so beautiful and the acting is amazing
Swan Lake - Entree and Adage from the Black Swan pas de deux (The Royal Ballet
Hola Lilli...hermoso video..
Gracias...Besitos.....
Stunning. What a great goth set and costumes, with razor sharp making their marks.
Still my favourite ballet.
They just make it look so easy and majestic. I'm in looove!
