    안녕하세요 선생님~! I have a few questions that I'm going to ask in English but before that, I want to thank you again for your wonderful videos! You even produce PDF and answer questions. I just hope that you will still be able to make Korean videos forever because they are so useful! Is there anything we can do to support your work?
    My questions:
    - When used in one phrase, what is the difference between (이)나 and 아니면? What 아니면 can do that (이)나 can't?
    - Is 호선 a mix of 번호 and 선? Can I also say "1번 지하철"?
    - Also, in this phrase: 지금은 길이 막히니깐 지하철을 타세요. I know that 니까 is used can mean "because" but why do you write 깐 instead?
    감사합니다!

      Hello~Thank you for watching my videos. You've asked tricky questions ^^ And here are my answers.
      1. Both 아니면 and (이)나 have the meaning of 'or.'
      1) 아니면 comes from '아니다 (to be not)' + 면 (a connective ending used to assume an uncertain fact)
      - It can be translated as 'or.' Or it can be also translated as 'if not, otherwise.'
      - It can be used to link two sentences and also two nouns.
      우리 9시에 만날까요? 아니면 2시에 만날까요? (Shall we meet at 9? Or shall we meet at 2?)
      커피 아니면 녹차 주세요. (Please give me coffee or green tea.)
      - Also, there is spacing before and after '아니면': 커피✓아니면✓녹차 (O), 커피아니면 녹차 (X)
      2) (이)나
      - It is only used to link two nouns (or more than two nouns).
      So, 우리 9시에 볼까요? 이나 2시에 만날까요? (X) -> 우리 9시나 2시에 만날까요? (O)
      - It is used with nouns and attached the preceding noun: 9시나 2시, 지하철이나 버스
      → So a big difference between '아니면' and '(이)나' is whether it can connect sentences or not.
      And sometimes, depending on sentences, there might have subtle differences of meaning.
      2. '호선' comes from 호 (a bound noun used to indicate the order or sequence of something) + 선 (line)
      - So, '1번 지하철' is wrong. You have to say '지하철 1호선.'
      3. 막히니깐 comes from 막히니까 + 는 (auxiliary postpositional particle to emphasise)
      --> 막히니깐 is shortened form of 막히니까는
      If you have more questions, please leave a comment. Thank you~!

    I have a question. 거나 is used to connect two adjectives and verbs while (이)나 is used in nouns. What about connecting a verb and a noun? or an adjective and a verb?

    • @basickoreanbk
      @basickoreanbk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello~actually, I haven't thought about that way. But, you can connect a verb and an adjective using '거나'
      For example,
      상황이 힘들거나 제 도움이 필요하면 연락해주세요. (Please let me know if you are in a difficult situation or if you need my help.)
      = 제 도움이 필요하거나 상황이 힘들면 연락해주세요.
      And I cannot think of 'a grammar' that has the meaning of 'or' and that connects a noun and a verb/an adjective. If I find one, I'll let you know. Thank you~!
