I keep going back to this video for reference! As I learn more about Bonsai, this one is still relevant. The endless layering process is a great way to use what you already have in stock and keep in production. I call them "Mother Trees".
I did an air layering last November (I live in Adelaide, Australia) following one of your videos and everything went great. Now I will repot the same way you showed in this video. Thank you for this tip I was wating for. Cheers !

Thank you Peter, spagnum moss has been a savior, my dwarf rotos are all coming back and they died to bare wood, thank you thank you, love my trees. Just removed my first wires and it was too late, keep a close watch, it was sad to see some branches so deeply cut but they will heal, just give them love.

Thank you for the advice. I started an air layer late June and early July and after six weeks I did not see any roots yet. I will continue and just be patient and let them go until next year.

I have just come in from the garden after checking the roots on my own maple air layer that I started in early June after watching one of Peter's videos. The longest roots are about an inch long so I have wraped it up again and will check again in a couple of months...
Dont be in a rush - just wait a little bit longer for more roots to form.
"The longest roots are about an inch long so I have wraped it up again and will check again in a couple of months..." - so I waited 3 months and it's now early December. The roots are very long and healthy. I think using hormone rooting powder and fertiliser may have helped. I have detached and potted the new tree in a mix of sphagnum moss and akadama.
@@peterchan3100 It's doing great now - 42" high and covered in foliage. It looks so strong and green and healthy. The birds keep stealing the sphagnum moss to build their nests. I will just let it grow out and establish strong roots this year. I might cut it back next year. I am just enjoying my success at the moment. It is reassuring to see predictable growth and vitality during this uncertain and troubled time. Thanks for the videos - I find them inspirational and encouraging.

There's an old twisted ornamental cherry tree in my dad's back yard that I may air layer. It's beautiful, but he was always disappointed that it didn't produce any fruit. Thanks for the tips!

Early spring is best but you can also do this into the summer.
Your videos are an inspiration. I may have said before. Every time I feel down I watch bonsai collection videos. It gives me inspiration to go into field and look for trees. Can you please recommend a good carving grinder machine. I really need to buy one.

I highly enjoy these videos and learn so much. But still some questions remain: How do I care for the air layering in winter (climate like in the UK) without a greenhouse or anything, just the garden? Will the tree survive if cut of in late August and planted in Spaghnum moss?
Oh, I have another question:
When you put the fresh cut air-layered branch in the sphagnum moss, can I use fresh sphagnum moss directly out of my garden?

Dear Mr chan I m a big fan of your wonderful work. I see lots of videos of junipers and many other trees. No one has made a video of very fast growing wisteria. My neighbour kindly asked me to remove a very very old over 90 years old .I did with a great difficulty. Back in May 2019 planted in a large plastic container. And grew very strong . More I prune faster it grows. Any tips?
Keep the tendrils pruned to 4 or 6 buds - this will keep it in check and encourage flowering. I have many Wisterias as garden trees and they are just rampant.

Thuja is easy to air layer but not. much used for bonsai. Use the ones that have tight foliage - drooping foliage not good

I have both sphagnum peat moss that looks more like dirt and the long fibered sphagnum moss, now wish one should I use better (after the air layering) ? or it doesn’t matter or can I do a mix of both ? Thank you. Take good care of yourself sir. 🙏🏽

I have an air layer I did last year and I felt it did not have enough roots so I have left it over winter.I notice you said that you waited till the beginning of may.Is there any reason I can,t separate it before bud burst this spring.? Many thanks for you' vidios
Sadly I was a bit unfortunate with air layering (EastEU). I tried around april with a friends great grape specimen and my backyard juniper. Each time removing the surface woodish skin, scraping with a knife the core of the branch to get some juice and wraping it with foil and wire. Five weeks later any single root. Used combinations of cocoFiber, regular ground soil, adding "root activator" powder, and even spreading some honey on the core as I read it helps too. Is it now too late to try air layering?
Any suggestions or just more patience? Anyone feel free to answer with your experiences/tips
I’ve used sphagnum peat moss for air layers but it’s finely ground fibers. I use it for my maple air layers. I don’t have 100% success unless I use hormones, so I will try to find whole sphagnum moss, maybe I’ll have better success.

large ceramic pots like those nice big ones can be quite expensive. would it be suitable to put a few large stones in the bottom of a large plastic pot to stabilize it?
