A bit of an unfair comparison between a sports car and a coupe built on a hatchback platform, the Audi looks modern/stunningly beautiful compared the Porsche timeless design that will age well in 50 years time. The Porsche Cayman is a focused Sports car with midship engine, no useless 911 type backseat. It’s a tricky comparison but one I did before buying the Cayman. I do agree with your final statement though- a friend has a 4.0 NA six with a manual and it’s just next level! Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
You could say that but the TT in various versions, usually the RS version have appeared in at least one comparison tests and won. I’m not entirely sure it matters that the TT was built on a hatchback platform, I think you need to look back at how Audi dominated rallying years ago and why.

Not really fair comparison tbh. Tts would be closer ttrs would be more biased audi direction. This is pretty much an audi tt thats more in line with a golf gti up against a cayman gts which is more 911. Shame as I thought it was going to be an interesting comparison but it just turned out to be pretty pointless tbh
Quattro TTS beats the Cayman hands down. The Cayman is crap on ice or snow which we get in the UK, whereas the Quattro eats it up and leaves the Cayman at the bottom of the hill.
Just came across this channel. This guys pretty good on camera reviewer. Lets be honest Cayman will be better driving however most will buy on looks as we are not rwcing drivers....The TT wins. The 718 is like a back to front frog.
I have always loved the Cayman But any car that can't even handle a set of golf clubs is out for me. I bought a TTS and I love it for fun and practicality.
When I first started considering a Cayman, I took a test drive both on 2.5 GTS and 4.0 GTS. At first I could not really see what all the fuss was about. 4.0 sounds great, but 2.5 is by no means bad. The thing was, 2.5 GTS had around 15k km on it, and I've driven it hard on the road, did launches. 4.0 had, I think 300 km or something and I was one of the first people to test drive it. So I was mostly gentle with it, but had sports exhaust on. At first I did not really think that 4.0 was worth extra money and extra gas, but went for it for two reasons: I am allergic to turbos (even though 2.5 is miles ahead of my Audi in terms of turbo lag) and second hand market prices were abysmal. After a couple months of ownership I found out that lower end torque is really fine compared to 2.5 due to sheer amount of power alone. And I am not a speed junkie, 0-100 times worry me less than rolling acceleration. When I've finally broken in the Cayman, I started pushing it to redline, and it's intoxicating. Engine wakes up after 4k rpm and starts to sing, and going from 7k to 8k feels like a nice and warm hug. That's not something that you have in 2.5 unfortunately. So in the end it depends on what you're comparing 2.5 GTS to. In absolute value 2.5 is a tremendously good package and I'd recommend it to anyone. The driving experience, weight distribution, chassis, steering - it's all there. It's just 4.0 is too good. As for Audi TT. It took me probably 20 minutes to write it off my shortlist. It's really just an Audi in a form factor of a sports car, but not a true sports car. And no, it's not a baby R8.
Wow! Thanks for that feedback. I think if I had the budget for the 4.0, that would have taken my fancy I do feel when the 2.5 hits 7k rpm it starts to sing however it ends so quickly…I just want more! Thanks again- enjoy your GTS!
@@paulhancock855 Mid-engine RWD is surprisingly manageable in winter due to more weight on the rear axle. Of course, you can't plow through the snow like with Quattro, but if you live in the city and streets are cleaned often, you don't need to compromise on owning a sportscar. As for front-engine RWD, I would not get it in my climate. BMWs are a meme here.
I’ve had both a 981 S, 2.5 GTS and TTRS. Much preferred the RS for daily driving, noise and straight line performance. The RS is more of a 911 4S rival than a cayman in terms of pace. Having said that, the 4.0 is very special, the problem is they are pretty crap as a daily and c.£80k for a comparable spec. For a weekend toy I would just get a GT4. Each to their own, but writing off the TT so quickly is pure snobbery. Oh and it is a baby R8 when you get blown-off at the traffic lights rain or shine 🤣
Hmm not really sure it was a fair competition from the off. Not knocking the TT which is a great car especially for the price, but the Cayman was always going to be the winner. Thanks anyway for the vid.

If you're looking for a TT go with the TT-RS; the one equipped with a foot pedal specifically. The multi clutch of the base TT and TTS is the equivalent of someone periodically tapping on your shoulder and demanding $5k. The Mechatronic unit is expensive too. These also require dealership only tools so you aren't putting it on a trolley jack for an afternoon. The compact design of the 4L Turbo engine also makes replacing one component a matter of taking out several which increases labor times therefore labor bills. The TT-RS is a slightly larger engine and easier to work on and is opposite of what was written above.
Only twice the price! There’s the person looking for the TT you could talk into a TTS maybe, but TTRS isn’t even the same league of car (hence the price) typically you aren’t going to cross shop a base TT and a TTRS.
@@juelz4516 Considering the multi clutch on the TT/TTS is $6200 to replace, the timing belt another $4000 and most other components require multiple branches into the service manual to get done one can easily justify the TT-RS at $10 to $15K more given it is chain driven, has no multi clutch and isn't as labor intensive to say replace a thermostat or a water pump. Thermostats on all cars require removal of the airbox but the TT/TTS also require the intake duct, the alternator, radiator shroud, three times as many coolant hoses and a coolant pipe to all be removed just to get to the thermostat. The TT-RS only requires the removal of the airbox, a hose and one pipe. The water pump requires one to get to the poly V belt on the TT-RS but on the TT/TTS it's driven by that timing belt which has a top and bottom cover/ about 12 pages of reading say to the TT-RS's 4 pages. It's less a matter of savings and more one of delayed costs to own the vehicle due to the layered nature of the drive train along with the labor intensive design.
@@mightymulatto3000 In what country a timing belt costs 4000 dollars? Plus, it doesn't even have a timing belt. The 2.0 TFSI is chain. All TT's are equipped with double clutch gearboxes, be it normal, TTD or RS. The RS just has a model that can cope with the extra torque.
@@Alexandru-T. My 2010 Audi TTS is belt driven. The shop guide lists the steps to get it off. It's also listed in the service schedule as: Timing Belt - Replace. Check condition of timing belt tensioning system, dampening pulleys, and idler pulleys and replace if necessary every 110,000 miles. TTS only. Parts are about $500 total since the water pump is down there too behind the upper and lower timing belt cover. The $250/hr labor rate is what inflates the cost. Quoted as a 14 hour job.
Ill take the TTS or RS anyday over a Porsche and throw in a tune plus still have a shtz ton of money left over while I'm blowing the doors if the Porsche. 😂
I’ve had 2 tt’s and 1 TTS. And now have a Cayman S. Cayman is faster and handles better (IMO). The TT’s are better in the snow, more room. I’ve even gotten 6 ft step ladder in side. They’re both great cars…depends on your needs.
I sold my 530bhp Audi TT RS for a Manual Cayman 2.5 GTS - The Audi was the most boring car I have ever owned, and this was very hard for me to accept as I always dreamed of owning a MK 3 TT RS, but after 7 months of ownership I had to get rid
@@LifeInMotionuk this may sound like a very big positive but it really isn’t, it’s too easy to drive fast! And you really don’t feel like you’re going that fast because of it! There is so much traction it makes for a boring drive, to feel like your pushing the car, you have to do silly silly speeds! And the understeer is horrendous! It feels like a very heavy car once you’re throwing it around corners! Also the parts are way more expensive vs the GTS, you don’t even want to know how much a front set of discs and pads set me back on the RS 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It's also listed in the service schedule as:
Timing Belt - Replace. Check
condition of timing belt tensioning system, dampening pulleys, and idler pulleys and replace if necessary every 110,000 miles. TTS only.
Parts are about $500 total since the water pump is down there too behind the upper and lower timing belt cover. The $250/hr labor rate is what inflates the cost. Quoted as a 14 hour job.
When you compare anything is on the same price you seem to have failed here
Ill take the TTS or RS anyday over a Porsche and throw in a tune plus still have a shtz ton of money left over while I'm blowing the doors if the Porsche. 😂
Ain’t a fair comparison, if you get a GTS you should have got a RS instead of the stock one ….
Nice 👌🏽
Did use a TTS or TTRS! Not even a fair comparison!
I thought it was a TTrs until he said 2.0
TTRS would be a better comparison at 400hp
Dreadful unfair comparison ....Ya just another Porsche head really
TTS...😋😋
I dont understand why u compare those 2 cars? They are totally different, build quality, ride quality, engane, gearbox and at last price.
They are, and yet I considered both before buying the Cayman 👍🏻
You are wrong Nikola Petrovič those two cars belong info the same segment .
yes agreed strange thing to say, they are natural alternative options when looking for a fun little quality car with strong brand image
I’ve had 2 tt’s and 1 TTS. And now have a Cayman S. Cayman is faster and handles better (IMO). The TT’s are better in the snow, more room. I’ve even gotten 6 ft step ladder in side. They’re both great cars…depends on your needs.
Very useful insight, thanks Dan!
TT with Stage1 330-350 hp. Quattro 🦾.
Hard to beat, especially with the weather as it is now
Which one is more overpriced
Value for money, I think the TT is better priced- but depends on what’s important to you right?
No one is ever taking a TT over a Porsche - never
Maybe a TTS or RS
I sold my 530bhp Audi TT RS for a Manual Cayman 2.5 GTS - The Audi was the most boring car I have ever owned, and this was very hard for me to accept as I always dreamed of owning a MK 3 TT RS, but after 7 months of ownership I had to get rid
Very interesting! What made it boring for you? I’ve heard although quattro is brilliant, it can make the drive very predictable
Ah so that does make complete sense! That’s one of my problems with electric cars…they’re gather speed so quickly it becomes a non-event! Shame the TT-RS parts are expensive, as I hoped they wouldn’t be ! It sounds like the move to the GTS was a good one- enjoy!
Most boring car you’ve ever owned!! This guys got jokes everyone!! 😂😂😂 Yeah that 0-60 in 3.5 seconds can be really BORING!!
@@juelz4516 actually my best time using draggy was 2.9 seconds to 60. The novelty of launching the car soon wares off mate. Buy one and let me know how you feel after 6 months
Cayman used 40k .. Audi 15k
You may have a point…
@@LifeInMotionuk and 718 2.0l ...50 to 60k here
@commantrosexetlos4700 I did a comparison of a TTS versus a base 2.0 l Cayman and you can find similar prices, but the Cayman would be either high mileage or older. I guess the benefit of the Cayman is they hold value better, and have now been announced as discontinued so potentially are a good place to put your money (the same could be said for the TT that is in the same situation)
@@LifeInMotionuk yeah they hold their price very good but i feel retarded to buy used a 2.0l 300hp for 60k..ttrs is under 40k..c63amg too is cheaper..f10 m5 and m6 are cheaper..f type 550hp is a bit cheaper..new supra with b58 engine is cheaper..so why to buy that 718? M3 and m4 s55 are 30 to 40k..new 340i g20 is 40k..718 is wayyyy overpriced
@commantrosexetlos4700 I’d say if you want a sports car, and you need badge appeal then the Cayman does well. More people are looking at a Cayman than an M4. F Type is a good shout although arguably no where near as good to drive. Depends on what’s important.
Both cars are grossly overrated. SMH
why audi tt vs porsche cayman gts? it should be audi ttrs vs cayman gts bro..but overall nice video
Believe me if I had access to one, it would have been
