I remember watching the movie on my phone in bed, next to my sleeping family, and physically shaking with laughter and trying my hardest not to wake them up. I eventually had to quietly get up and run to the bathroom and laughed harder than I had throughout the whole pandemic. Pretty solid film that I won't soon forget.

They still paid a lot for it. They basically covered the costs of production and saved them from losing a ton of money. It’s just the difference in budget between a theatrical release and a straight to Netflix release.
I watched this without much expectations and ended up having an ab cramp due to laughing too hard.

my wife and I LOVE this movie! It's a regular tradition for us to watch the first half of the movie, then watch the second half on another night. It helps keep the commitment to TV before bed a more realistic amount of time (loading up a WHOLE movie can be more exhausting than an episode of something, sometimes). The way the narrative is told is so well done and they absolutely nailed it. He deserves all he has and more for making that film
They need to change how streaming movies make money for the people that helped create them.

I dont understand, when you pitch to Netflix dont they usually pay for what youre pitching if they want it so i find it hard to believe they only got 17k period. maybe Eric only got 17k but theres no way they just gave it to Netflix for free. Somebody somewhere got money for this.

I think there’s a writers strike regarding royalties.. not sure how selling to streamers works or if that outcome would affect whether eric would receive royalties

There could not have been NO theatrical release because my wife and I saw it in an AMC theatre. I remember a decent amount of advertising as well... This is a strange story.
