  • This is the sixth in a series of computer science lessons about wireless communication and digital signal processing. In these lessons you’ll learn about the nature of electromagnetic radiation, digital modulation and multiplexing techniques, and how to get the best out of mobile communication systems such as LTE, 5G and WiFi. In this lesson, you will learn how the spectral efficiency of a BPSK signal can be improved with pulse shaping. You will learn that the shape of a sinc pulse in the time domain can be calculated to produce a frequency spectrum of limited bandwidth. You will also learn how the work of the Harry Nyquist and Claude Shannon has allowed modern microprocessors to combine a stream of time domain sinc pulses in such a way as to overcome the effects of intersymbol interference. Finally, you will see the impact of pulse shaping on the power spectrum of a BPSK signal.
