thanks for putting this video up for me ted. It was very helpful to see the unit being tested on different thicknesses with the hand torch. most of the videos are on cnc and they really don't show what the unit can do for me. that being said I will be placing my order for the powermax 85 this week. I was hoping to go with the 65 and save myself about 800 bucks, but I'd rather spend the money than limit myself. I've got some big projects planned
Im really glad that i could help you decide... I feel you are making the right choice for cutting inch.. When i purchased mine i debated between the 45 and 65 and i have no regrets on getting the 65 so i can turn up that dial when i need to. Rarely need that much power but when you do boy its nice!!! The inch plate i cut in this video was previously cut with an 85 i forgot to mention that in the video so you can compare what kind of cut you can get. On thing i will suggest... Get familiar with cutting and using straight edges on some lighter steel before you grab a thick chunk. But good luck you can let me know how you like your machine when you get it if you want... OOO one more thing I also debated between getting longer leads or sticking to the normal ones l(i think its 25 feet) And i am glad i stuck with the normal length of leads.. as they seem to get tangled up enough with themselves or other things.
Ted Kahler I had been going back and forth on what length leads to go with. I decided on the 25 footers as well. I figure I would probably ruin the 50s by tangling and stepping on the damn things.
great demo Ted! well done. I fought the removal of plow bolts a few months ago with no torch. for open area fabrication the cutter you just demoed beats a torch in several ways. tip contact can be a problem in tight unreachable confined locations. thanks for the video.
Hey soybean farmer.... Feeling so good you just headed out to go plow HEHE!!!! On a more serious note i hope your doing well... The tip can actually be a bit away from contacting... and they do offer what they call high access consumables so it has a longer reach

Yea that is kinda what happened to me ... I was working with my uncle on building some bunks and he let me use his Miller unit and that thing was amazing owned this one 2 weeks later.... But this unit in my opinion is way better than a miller
its a 220 volt and im running an 80 gallon compressor cant remember the cfm but you can get on hypertherm and look up the specs on what they require for air
I was wondering if you can answer my question does the fan in your hypertherm 65 come on as soon as you turn on the machine. Or does it come on once the machine gets hot I just put a new fan and doesn't seem to be working thanks
the problem with a 85 is you can't use all it's power with a 50-60 amp fuse .Although I have shut everything off and put in a 100 amp fuse for my 85 . not practical . 65 is basically the most you can use as for as plasma cutters go .Unless you run your shed off a generator
@@tedkahler9738 I never have either. I do normally rpun my 85 off a fifty amp fuse. I. figured I could never pull the full 85 Amps my machine was rated for threw a 50 amp fuse .The 85 loves that big breaker. I need more juice to my shed . That will be next spring
@@tedkahler9738 hope you love your machine as much as I love mine . I did have a rough time at first with rather short consumable life . To solve the problem I put a refrigerator next to the compressor. a car radiator inside the fridge. .to serve as an air dryer. After that consumables last forever . Excellent video thanks for posting
Depends on your definition of pricey... they range from pry 1500 or 2000 to as much as you want to spend... This one was around 3 thousand i believe. But went from using lots of torching gas to i haven't filled a bottle in 2 years!!! And it defiantly saves a lot of time
Thanks for posting. I was on the fence between the 45xp and the 65, but decided on the 65 for speedier cutting 1/2" and up.

One thing about it the machine is light enough to grab and move around as long as you have air and power

Your plasma cutter rocks ours is just for sheet metal , we bought it to cut holes in the grain bins to put extraction tubes in them.

ON that inch thick material did you use full amperage? How long would it have taken to overheat that thing? Duty cycle is 65A 50% and 46A 100%
i did use full amperage.... not sure how long tell it would over heat. have never overheated it to this point yet!

fast cash it would work great for that but could use smaller cheaper model and get same results. If just cutting light material

still a great cutter. I have used the crap out of it building corrells and fence. I run it off my welder a bunch as well and held up to that.

No issues really. I broke the cord but that was my own fault
